Man this song is amazing!!! I used to struggle with low-self esteem and depression and i felt very insignificant. I was an idiot who believed the enemy's lies. I'm over that now and i know i'm someone worth dying for! :)
No matter how evil you think you are God loves you for the fact that in His eyes you are more beautiful than even the stars in the sky or the sunsets He paints in the evening, thats what this song is ultimitely saying.
And I want to add that He wants us to practice unconditional love with each other. Not just our friends and family, but with least of these. I go into homeless shelters weekly and can't tell you how many people tell me that they have never had anyone tell them that they love them. The greatest gift we can give another human being is unconditional love -- that's the way He loves us. God loves you, yes, YOU, and I love you as another child of God.
This is what is confusing, i am a Christian as well, but all the time, i see us correcting others, when actually we should be correcting ourselves. We often judge others when we're not far off better than them. We claim to be better but that is only what we think. But that is why the Lord is soo amazing. Even though we sin millions of times, he is still merciful and compassionate. So all this debating about who's correct and who's not has to end. Please.
This song speaks to the soul of each person who are LOST. It makes them remember God sent his son who DIED for us. These "lost" folks need the rememberance of this fact in their own soul to know life is worth GOING ON. "Jesus died for me", so because of that I need to "get over my problem" and know that I am a good person, I am worth life from God no matter how lost, ugly, angry or lonely I feel. God must become part of my life. Jesus died so that we can live. Great inspriational song!

Also, being unworthy and being worthless are two different things. We are unworthy, but we are not worthless. Jesus died for us because he loved us, he chose to love us, it's not something we earned by our merits.
As I see it, humans don't see that we (humans) do not deserve to have someone die for us. But God sees that we are worth it, because we are His creation. And obviously He thinks we deserve it because He sent His one and only Son to die for us on the cross. Nuff said. c:

quite a lot of arguing going on.... The way I see it is this. No we don't deserve what Jesus did for us, that song states that. But I think the song is saying is that we have to "make it worth" for what Jesus did. We should live our lives for him, spread what he did, let him fill our life with meaning. Do our best for "pay him back" though we really can't of course. we can't just sit around thinking "well I'm just a nothing" because once you become a child of God, you are worth it to Jesus.
We are not turned down by God. We were NOT worthy of his pain on the cross, but that does not mean we are WORTHLESS. He did it for us because we weren't worthless, and for us to realize that. @iksagor That's completely wrong according to Scripture. God lavished His love upon us by sending His one and only Son to die a horrific death in our place. We deserve the unbridled wrath of God for breaking all of His laws. God's gift of everlasting life is God's unmerited favor towards us. (Eph.2:8,9) Its thru God's gift of repentance and faith that allows us to be saved from destruction in Hell. We really ought not think of ourselves too highly. Salvation is all about glorifying God, not us.
The title of this song has nothing to do with self pride. You (we, I, us) are worth dying for, not because the song said it, because Jesus said it. Why do we have to put Him in a box? We are not supposed to understand the limits of His greatness. First, because if we did then we would put boundaries on Him, Second, we cant even begin to understand how great He is. This song is horribly incorrect. Believing that you are someone worth dying for could only possibly lead to pride and vanity. I would like to know how you deal with Psalm 5:5? That verse speaks of God "hating all evil doers." God loves only those that Repent and Believe. @transplantministries God says hate the sin love the sinner, He says that He hates and cannot stand evil not that He can't stand those who do evil, He says that He loves and tells everyone to love all even if you hate what they are doing or have done. Romans 5:8 says "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this--*while we were still sinners*, Christ died for us." We were not at all worth dying for--that's the beauty of grace!
@hschreiber2 we are all worth dying for...when He was on the cross he said "forgive them, for they know not what they do." those men who killed him had completely turned their backs on God, and yet He was dying for them, too. our decisions don't change that; there's nothing we can do that He won't love us through.

@wsushocker22 - The word "so" in John 3:16 is not "so much", as in "God loves the world so much, that he gave His only begotten Son ...". But rather, it means "in this way", hence "In this way God loved the world, by giving His only begotten Son ..."
God displayed His love for the world (all of creation, not just Jews, and not even simply mankind, but all of creation) by sending His only Son to suffer and died for the sins of people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.

You're right, but the song uses a different type of "worth it". If you've ever bought a small child a present it's the same type. The kind that's caused by love, and makes things we do "worth it" even if the person we love wasn't deserving or worth it based on any works they did.

If God did not feel people were worth sending his son to die for them to save their souls from their own sins then he would not of sent Jesus. I know this verse is over quoted but I am going to use it anyways. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that whoever believe in him, shall no perish, but have eternal life." God sees his love for people more than worth it.
God's reputation and character were trashed by Satan and it's continued!!! If Jesus "died" for us, who was He appeasing with His blood? Why did He need to die? To make God reluctantly accept us? Sorry to be "that guy", but the truth is that you are NOT worth dying for. The Gospel is that Christ died for you even though you weren't worthy. Sing about His amazing Grace...sing about His incredible mercy...sing about his awesome righteousness...but PLEASE don't give people the false gospel that they are somehow WORTHY of Christ's sacrifice. When we say that we are "someone worth dying for" we are saying that God owes us salvation...He doesn't.
@DaSeedSower Many people are misinterpreting this song. The lyric "help me believe that I am someone worth dying for" is poorly worded and easily misinterpreted. It should have been "help me believe that GOD THINKS that I am someone worth dying for". The author is not trying to claim that he is worth dying for based on his own merits or that God "owes" us. Just the opposite. He is trying hard to fathom the depth of God's grace. If God doesn't think we are worth dying for, then why did Jesus die?

I wasn't worth dying for. My sins were scarlet. The best I ever did was filthy rags. I wasn't worth dying for. My sins prove that to me. Yet Christ loved me so much, that he gave his life for me. A wretch, a criminal, a murderer, adulterer, thief, blasphemer, liar, idolater and a rebel against God. Yet Christ in his love looked at me with compassion and while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me. Not to prove his love but to buy my salvation with his blood. I wasn't worth dying for.
It is a sad day we live in, not just that a "Christian" group could have such a poor understanding of the Gospel so as to write a song like this, nor even, that a "Christian" radio station would play it. But that it would need to be explained to "Christians" why this song is so-o-o-o awful. :(

There is a difference between being unworthy and being worthless. We are so unworthy of God's love but we are not worthless. Jesus' sacrifice and God's love determines our worth. I love this song.
I messed up academically at a university, leading me not to only a year of community college but also getting me kicked out of my house. I'm living at my friend's houses, thinking am I still worth something. God's grace tells me so, I'm holding on to Him desperately. He's all I got.

gahh its amazing what God can do, just by one song he can reset every way you think about life and just focus your full mind on his glory and when your in the spirit its like everything fades away for that brief moment and right then and there your happy and no longer alone. Every time when i listen to this song, it reminds me of the people who go to my school. This made me think about what some kids might be going through and that they need to know that God knows and witnesses every detail in their life. That whatever they are going though isn't unnoticed. I know that many probably question, "Am I really worth it?" I truly believe that this song answers that question. Even though it seems like no one cares about you, God is always standing there by your side.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
I'm not sure what troubles you're going through, but remember that we aren't meant to be here on Earth, our home is in heaven and even if we struggle here, praise God we get to live with him in eternity :)

And I want to add that He wants us to practice unconditional love with each other. Not just our friends and family, but with least of these. I go into homeless shelters weekly and can't tell you how many people tell me that they have never had anyone tell them that they love them. The greatest gift we can give another human being is unconditional love -- that's the way He loves us. God loves you, yes, YOU, and I love you as another child of God.

I don't want to cause a conflict here.
This is what is confusing, i am a Christian as well, but all the time, i see us correcting others, when actually we should be correcting ourselves. We often judge others when we're not far off better than them. We claim to be better but that is only what we think. But that is why the Lord is soo amazing. Even though we sin millions of times, he is still merciful and compassionate. So all this debating about who's correct and who's not has to end. Please.

This song speaks to the soul of each person who are LOST. It makes them remember God sent his son who DIED for us. These "lost" folks need the rememberance of this fact in their own soul to know life is worth GOING ON. "Jesus died for me", so because of that I need to "get over my problem" and know that I am a good person, I am worth life from God no matter how lost, ugly, angry or lonely I feel. God must become part of my life. Jesus died so that we can live. Great inspriational song!

Also, being unworthy and being worthless are two different things. We are unworthy, but we are not worthless. Jesus died for us because he loved us, he chose to love us, it's not something we earned by our merits.

quite a lot of arguing going on.... The way I see it is this. No we don't deserve what Jesus did for us, that song states that. But I think the song is saying is that we have to "make it worth" for what Jesus did. We should live our lives for him, spread what he did, let him fill our life with meaning. Do our best for "pay him back" though we really can't of course. we can't just sit around thinking "well I'm just a nothing" because once you become a child of God, you are worth it to Jesus.

We are not turned down by God. We were NOT worthy of his pain on the cross, but that does not mean we are WORTHLESS. He did it for us because we weren't worthless, and for us to realize that. That we are worth MORE. That we ARE someone worth dying for. We're here to praise God, not be turned down by him. He died for us, and this song is about someone who WANTS TO BE WORTHY OF HIS LOVE LIKE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN. That we are worth his death and it wasn't in vain.

@iksagor That's completely wrong according to Scripture. God lavished His love upon us by sending His one and only Son to die a horrific death in our place. We deserve the unbridled wrath of God for breaking all of His laws. God's gift of everlasting life is God's unmerited favor towards us. (Eph.2:8,9) Its thru God's gift of repentance and faith that allows us to be saved from destruction in Hell. We really ought not think of ourselves too highly. Salvation is all about glorifying God, not us.

The title of this song has nothing to do with self pride. You (we, I, us) are worth dying for, not because the song said it, because Jesus said it. Why do we have to put Him in a box? We are not supposed to understand the limits of His greatness. First, because if we did then we would put boundaries on Him, Second, we cant even begin to understand how great He is. This song is horribly incorrect. Believing that you are someone worth dying for could only possibly lead to pride and vanity. We are worthy only of eternal damnation in Hell. Its only by the grace of God that we are given the opportunity to repent and trust in Christ for His righteousness which saves us from Hell. Not b/c we're good (worthy) people, but b/c bad people who can be forgiven by a good God thru repentance & faith.

I would like to know how you deal with Psalm 5:5? That verse speaks of God "hating all evil doers." God loves only those that Repent and Believe. Else you are a Child of the Devil according to scripture, most specifically Ephesians.

@transplantministries God says hate the sin love the sinner, He says that He hates and cannot stand evil not that He can't stand those who do evil, He says that He loves and tells everyone to love all even if you hate what they are doing or have done. Many can manipulate verses but if you read more than just the few you gave you would realize your mistake and know that even if He hates the sin He still loves the sinner so much "That He gave his one and only son to die on the cross," for him/her.

Romans 5:8 says "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this--*while we were still sinners*, Christ died for us." We were not at all worth dying for--that's the beauty of grace!

@wsushocker22 - The word "so" in John 3:16 is not "so much", as in "God loves the world so much, that he gave His only begotten Son ...". But rather, it means "in this way", hence "In this way God loved the world, by giving His only begotten Son ..."
God displayed His love for the world (all of creation, not just Jews, and not even simply mankind, but all of creation) by sending His only Son to suffer and died for the sins of people from every tribe, tongue, and nation.

You're right, but the song uses a different type of "worth it". If you've ever bought a small child a present it's the same type. The kind that's caused by love, and makes things we do "worth it" even if the person we love wasn't deserving or worth it based on any works they did.

If God did not feel people were worth sending his son to die for them to save their souls from their own sins then he would not of sent Jesus. I know this verse is over quoted but I am going to use it anyways. John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, so that whoever believe in him, shall no perish, but have eternal life." God sees his love for people more than worth it.

If Jesus "died" for us, who was He appeasing with His blood? Why did He need to die? To make God reluctantly accept us? If the wages of sin (defined as separation from our Father/Elder Brother) is death, did Jesus die (willingly submitting to the wages of sin--separation from His Father) to show what sin would do, just like He came to show what He and His Father were like--loving and accepting...NOT arbitrary, coercive, manipulative and basically stating, You must love me or I'll barbecue you!

Sorry to be "that guy", but the truth is that you are NOT worth dying for. The Gospel is that Christ died for you even though you weren't worthy. Sing about His amazing Grace...sing about His incredible mercy...sing about his awesome righteousness...but PLEASE don't give people the false gospel that they are somehow WORTHY of Christ's sacrifice. When we say that we are "someone worth dying for" we are saying that God owes us salvation...He doesn't.

It should have been "help me believe that GOD THINKS that I am someone worth dying for". The author is not trying to claim that he is worth dying for based on his own merits or that God "owes" us. Just the opposite. He is trying hard to fathom the depth of God's grace. If God doesn't think we are worth dying for, then why did Jesus die?

It is a sad day we live in, not just that a "Christian" group could have such a poor understanding of the Gospel so as to write a song like this, nor even, that a "Christian" radio station would play it. But that it would need to be explained to "Christians" why this song is so-o-o-o awful. :(

@aredeemed1 For you to say that... tells everybody that you obviously don't understand the lyrics in this beautiful humble Christian song. I'm not going to argue with you for saying that.......I'd just like to see you understand the song for what the songwriter intended it to be; accepting that God's grace is enough for anyone who will believe in His Son Jesus (John 3:16 says it all). Just think... the apostle Paul; before his conversion, he persecuted the Christians in the early church...... :)

spongebobdied ..... i've been in in a similar situation and thought some of the same things and God is your redeemer- his forgiveness is forever yours, and you are always his child. I will be grad in dec. 2011 and working on going to law school. trust him, he still loves u b/c he isn't performance base, and he always will. restoration, redemption, and revival is yours! Also, he's always been all we'v e got, we just weren't aware of it, and glory be to God that this portion is more than enough!

There is a difference between being unworthy and being worthless. We are so unworthy of God's love but we are not worthless. Jesus' sacrifice and God's love determines our worth. I love this song.

I messed up academically at a university, leading me not to only a year of community college but also getting me kicked out of my house. I'm living at my friend's houses, thinking am I still worth something. God's grace tells me so, I'm holding on to Him desperately. He's all I got.

@zedasilva3 - like what type of Christian music do you want.. there are all types from hard core to country sound Christian to fit all taste, It all glorifies God, what it more important is where your heart is and what you are getting out of the music you listen to.. if you want something a little harder try Skillet, DecemberRadio, Third day is one of my favorites.

@justhis3 Well, I'm a good knower of rock bands, but thanks anyway. As it seems, you guys play rock music in your parties, which rarely hapens here in Brazil. Apart from axé, forró, sertanejo, funk carioca and other rythims ou surel do not know (hehe), when we party we play songs like =KQ6zr6kCPj8 , =yd8jh9QYfEs or =vkG3jPhEX3Q&feature=fvst , if you know what I mean. Tobymac is the only guy I know who does a good job on making this kind of christian party music. If you know any stuff like that..

@zedasilva3 you can go on pandora and create a station which will play many different songs. if you want more upbeat and new songs i suggest you chose an artist or song that is upbeat to search. tenth avenue north has some really great songs, i suggest you pick them :)

gahh its amazing what God can do, just by one song he can reset every way you think about life and just focus your full mind on his glory and when your in the spirit its like everything fades away for that brief moment and right then and there your happy and no longer alone. This is why i can never stray from God and im past the temptations of the world and on to spread the glory of God because i know that i am someone worth dying for;)

Every time when i listen to this song, it reminds me of the people who go to my school. This made me think about what some kids might be going through and that they need to know that God knows and witnesses every detail in their life. That whatever they are going though isn't unnoticed. I know that many probably question, "Am I really worth it?" I truly believe that this song answers that question. Even though it seems like no one cares about you, God is always standing there by your side.

I wish I could fully believe this song. Its not that I dont really...if I had to make a choice, I would believe it. I am just more discouraged than I ever have been in my life. And confused. The hard part is virtually no one I know knows that about me now. But I know God will get me thru this trial :)
