Nice one Piotrek830324. Thanks for taking the time to honour & respect the braves who served in Vietnam. It must hurt the vets till this day that with all the fire power brought to bare, they wasn't allowed to win the war due to pussy arse men in suits half a world away sipping champs and living the good life while young men paid the ultimate sacrifice. All the US politicians who made the decisions during the war should be brought up on charges of murder for all the braves who died.

Most of the Aricraft in this are were not Airforce- if a airplane is light grey and white it's Navy and most choppers are army. I'll point out the USAF aircraft

@TheBboyCheng the reason the US lost was the politicans didn't want to fight to win. They wanted a draw- Johnson put alot of targets off limits as he was afraid of killing Russian advisors. This resulted in the war draging on for years a vocal segment of the public getting fed up. Which resulted in the US withdrawl and the Paris peace acords. So the war with the US was a stalemate. The north invaded one last time in 1975 Ford didn't respond.

@jethromayham the kill ratio in vietnam was not 20 :1 the start the kill ratio was closer to 4:1 Rollingthunder the Kill ratio was 2:1 linebacker Iand II 6:1 now if you are talking about casualties on the ground that is differnt. The North didn't take the South until after the US had been out of the war for about 2 years and both sides had signed the Paris peace accords.

Nice collage. This is not a complaint, just an observation, but your description says "Air Force only," but it has Huey helicopters from all four branches, CH-46 Sea Knight is from the Navy and Marines, Chinooks from the Army, F-4 Phantoms with Marines markings, and an A-6 Intruder which was only used by the U.S. Navy. Also, I don't think the B-47 Stratojet (4:06) was used in Vietnam.

In this day and age, he who controls the air, usually controls the war - troops can't move if they continually get the crap bombed out of them. The Americans basically had the air to themselves in Vietnam. And they certainly dumped a shitload of bombs on that place. Yet the outcome was not what one would consider satisfactory.

technique of air warfare is much better now then in Vietnam! defenders must have very modern antiaircraft systems to shoot them! in Vietnam vietcong and related could shoot many flying machines down! and in terrain like jungle war is more asymmetrical + thousands new enemy's! now like in Iraq asymmetrical war in urban terrain! not many enemys and superior airforce can`t help to much. of course I agree that air force can blow up many objects precisely!

Yah... that's the problem precisely. You have to get them before they make it back to the cities, or else you're in for a bugger of time trying the flush them out. That was half the problem in Vietnam - you could never clearly tell who was VC and who wasn't. Urban warefare must be the hardest one to fight, especially once they get dug in. Doesn't matter if you have the best air force or the best army - you can't fight what you don't know.

It boils down to the old maxim "You can't win a fight with one arm tied behind your back."

The rules of engagement were such that we weren't allowed to attack their ports, cities, airfields, and so on, due to the fear of killing a russian advisor.

The attack corridors of approach were always the same. So where should we put our air defenses...hummm, I wonder.

We never lost a major battle, but weren't allowed to cut the head off the dragon.
