I live in Atlanta and around 9:30 EST this evening, April 1, 2008, I was sitting on my deck and saw something very similar and have contacted TV stations locally by email to find out if anyone else has spotted the same thing I saw. Very interesting. It was huge and no sound. It appeared to be very close and fell straight to the ground. hmarty

I saw the meteor too! Your description is accurate. I only saw it for 5 secs. though. The guys at work thought I was nuts when I told them about it. Turns out I am nuts, but at least I did see a meteor!

Where were you when you saw it? A neighbour of mine saw it from ground level while walking his dog but didn't report it either. The film was a great vindication for me too. People at work did make fun... Nothing throws a damper like saying: "Am I the only one here who saw a fireball last night?"

Sorry to disappoint you but it is definitely "identified" as a meteor. The sad thing is if it hadn't been for my report to the Royal Astronomical Society and this expensive automatic camera pointed at the night sky, no one would have noticed it - even in such a populated area as Southern Ontario.

Report it online to the American Meteor Society. They have a form to fill in.
