  • I'm intested in making a twisted reata but what width on the strings are you using? It looks like about 1/2" also it looks like 6 strings twisted into 3 strands

  • Is that saddle soap you're using to braid with? I read that you can use yellow laundry soap but I don't know where you can find that. Also what's the best way to dehair the hide? Thanks for sharing this video. I think cowboys need to share these things before they get lost and watered down like you said. Thanks.

  • i cannot say what he is using, but most of the braiders i talk to all prefer ash's rawhide cream (from grangeville, idaho); it is the best i have found for maintaining life in rawhide as well. it can be hard to find, but a second choice would be ray hole's rawhide cream mixed with water. as for taking the hair off of the hide, just do what doug did and run a pair of clippers of the hair to take off most of it and clean it up with a semi-sharp knife. you can finish it with a flesher.
