mona has died but on the other hand all villians are dead and Max has achieved closure,mental peace and the closest thing he can have to happiness

This is one of the real endings. There's a slightly different ending if you beat 'Dead on Arrival' (Hard difficulty) mode. Mona and Max survive in the hard difficulty ending. Nothing fabulous...

It's not a fake ending, but an alternate ending that you get when you beat the game on "dead on arrival"

@baseballfuries08 max payne 3 isnt being written by Sam Lake(the series' writer) dude, and it isnt being developed by remedy, and max isnt being voiced by James McCaffrey. if anything is fake, its Max Payne 3. youre better off treating mp3 as fan fiction rather than an extension of the series. as for which of these two endings is real, i dunno. i guess its just based on preference unless Sam Lake has any say so.

I don't understand why everyone thinks that this is the "bad" ending, and the dead on arrival ending is the "good" or "real" ending. What the fuck are you talking about? This is the way it was meant to finish; the way the story must end to be complete. Even though the ones he loves are dead, his inner demons have finally let him go, because he has come to a realization. He can move on and live a new life. Everything's all right.
