I love these three. I don't think Star Trek would have had the same magic without them. A good trio is hard to find. As they said in the interview, duos are easier. You see duos on tv all the time, but it's rare to get a great trio like Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.
I've always looke at the three as on coin. What I mean by that is, Kirk is the coin where Spock I the logical, and 'Bones' the emotional side. To me Sock and McCoy make Kirk who he is.
How interesting! Thanks for uploading this behind the scenes!
I love their chemistry, even if I think that Bones is sometime uselessly rough and rude to Spock. I understand what D.C. Fontana wants to say, they needed such a "human" character, but he often seems trivial, insensitive and cruel to Spock, whreas Spock is much more deep. Anyway, this balancing of the characters has been one of the winning cards! ^_^
Of course! This is one of the secret of the show in my opinion, there are so different characters and each of us can identify him/herself in one of them or would like to be like one of them!
Nice post. To me, the interplay between the three was like Freud's three parts of the personality with Spock as the superego, Kirk--ego, and McCoy--id.

If I was like one of these characters, I'd have to say I'm like Bones.
I have a Spock and Bones type relationship with most of my friends, although I have a Spock and Kirk type relationship with my best friend.
In most situations, I would react the way Bones does...I just wouldn't say "I'm a doctor, not a..." as I am Not a doctor. LOL

RIP Deforest Kelley (1920-1999) I think by far the best actor of the original series

I'd be Spock because he "speaks my language" when it comes to computers, science...and the like.

Wow...your tough on McCoy. I like McCoy. Frankly I think most people would be like Bones, and not like Spock or Kirk.
