@OLDBOYSTEAMING Sorry you've been poorly. You've been missed especially with two Belgian Marine runs. Glad you're back and you enjoyed the Streatham shot. The engine looks great. Barry
Hi Barry great night- time shot shot ,re camera your's is ok don't worry about zoom ,think I over did it on my last vid. I,m on the white rose next Sat. 17th. Dave
A great night time video and Clan Line looking a picture as ever Barry. Wish she would pay us a visit sometime. Best wishes to you too for Christmas and 2012. Chris
@khankadet The problem is the commitment to the VSOE which is lucrative. I've looked at 2012 draft tours and Clan Line is running off VSOE twice but all South of England. Barry
Yes, my camcorder, a Panasonic TM300, has a "Auto slow shutter" option which varies the shutter speed according to the level of light. The downside is a tendency to jerkiness in very low light. Better to do as Barry says, and make sure there is enough light in the scene in the first place!
What a brilliant clip Barry. One of the best night shoots I have seen for a very long time.As has been mentioned by others I love the build up and the sound of the approaching train and the lingering smoke against the station after the train had passed through. Thanks again for sharing this brilliant clip. Regards Dave.
I've been trying to get a video of Clan Line going under that bridge for many years. The timings are usually too awkward for me. You get a similar effect at Thornton Heath up slow platform 2.
Barry, that's an absolute classic! I love the slow build-up, while we absorb the scene. And the steam hanging and blowing about gives the picture atmosphere in every sense. It is very hard to get good night shots: I'd be interested to know what manual settings you used on your camcorder: night shot mode itself, for example? Fixed focus? Slow shutter speed?
@jrdaddykins Oh dear I have to confess there are no settings on the camera. It's a little compact. So many people think I have a top class camcorder. It's a little Lumix compact that automatically takes wonderful pictures given the right lighting conditions. I have to be canny about using the station lights. Barry
@bkendlerA4 Well - it's certainly an excellent camera, more than good enough for the job. I take your point about the lighting. You got it spot on here!
@jrdaddykins All but the most expensive video cameras have a fixed shutter speed because they shoot at around 25 frames per second, and therefore rely on the excellent light gathering that the digital camera has. After dark shot are helped if the camera has manual focus, set the focus on infinity, otherwise the auto focus struggles and you will see on some shots that points of light are continually going in and out of focus as the camera tries to pick out a subject to focus on.
Great vid Barry, liked by me! Wasn't able to get her this day because of the fact I needed to be elsewhere for another railtour but some quality night action
Lovely shot Barry. Great view of the steam under the canopy and the firebox glowing on the tender. I also spied the ex-Rail Blue kitchen car in that rake - obviously that must be fixed now. It's a bit odd that the 67 was providing the ETH when there was also a generator car in the consist.
@cmeonthemove Hiya,Thanks for the comment. I wondered about the generator car. I think the generator car is for the kitchen but I could be wrong. Belgian Marine (Clan Line) has run three times this month all with a 67 on the back. In the summer it didn't have one. So I assume it's the heating. Barry
fantastic video of a Merchant Navy working hard. the night adds to the atmosphere
