In the 80s I was too young to see, but now I realized the truth: the aliens are nothing but Sleestaks from "The Land of the Lost" planet! Look at their real faces and compare it with a Sleestak picture. Damn, was so obvious... the spaceships were the key to the Marshalls come back home!
Actually, they did address that in the first episode of the new series. A reporter pointed out that Earth's scientists said there was no way aliens would look like humans and the leader deflected the question by saying their scientists say otherwise.
In the first episode a reporter asked Anna that question and she said that their scientists would explain everything but that was the last I heard about it.

That just looked bad. It was clear the budget dropped right off after the miniseries. The series started using bad effects and just recycled a ton of old footage from the two miniseries.
The best part of this scene is when they unmask again to reveal that they are actually Donovan and Julie. So, they have two masks on. It's so ridiculous now but so cool when I saw when I was a child.

okay I remember this one, but later on, donovan and julie capture 2 real visitors; put the donovan and julie masks on them. And then they're captured by Diana as she mistakes them for donovan and julie: the point is, they're speaking supposedly the "alien" language (although it sounds Russian, to me) - well the book by A.C. Crispin says that the aliens had to learn our language because they "can't speak the alien language while wearing the [human] masks!!!"
unfortunately where it falls flat is when they turn to the side and you can tell that those big lizard noses and jaws would never fit underneath the human mask (which has the sound effect of stretching rubber gloves, incidentally) :)

@Shipgate In the first episode that question was asked, that human scientist could not explain why they looked like humans but that V scientist could. That was the only time they mentioned it.

As a biologist, one of the explanation is this : either evolution creates DNA/species that are the fittest, human beeings , for example of the best adapted specie , either "there's no other possible specie that could survive

If you listen closely too many of the conversations of the resistance they do mention that (and that partly happened with the human race as a whole when Anna released the red sky dust throughout the world at the end of season 1) . But to defend the original series -- at the time it was made the scientific & it's community was of the thought wasn't entirely of the belief, yet that aliens would be that much

Also in science fiction, at that time, 1983 - 84, much of science fiction regarding alien contact was still being influenced more by the original "Star Trek" series of the 1960's and by "Star Wars" movie series in terms of the fact that there wasn't much bio-diversity amongst alien races not only throughout the universe -- but also the Milky Way galazy (our galazy). (I'm speaking from a perepective of being in my 20's at the time the original "V" miniseries aired

@sneezyize Of course, as I wrote, things have changed since 1984 a great deal in terms of thought about that differences with alien races would occur -- look at how different alien races were many times presented in the later "Star Trek" series then in the original or with "Star Wars", as well as with the new "V" series. Also, if I'm not mistaken -- Kenneth Johnson, the original creator of the "V" miniseries was trying to make a point about a NAZI type takeover could occur in present day

@Shipgate Actually aliens societies all over the galaxy do look like us. Thats who the people of Atlantis were. There shared there DNA to create us with all the other civilizations in the inter-galactic community, and thats not from television or movies. Thats in reality.

That just looked bad. It was clear the budget dropped right off after the miniseries. The series started using bad effects and just recycled a ton of old footage from the two miniseries.

The best part of this scene is when they unmask again to reveal that they are actually Donovan and Julie. So, they have two masks on. It's so ridiculous now but so cool when I saw when I was a child.

okay I remember this one, but later on, donovan and julie capture 2 real visitors; put the donovan and julie masks on them. And then they're captured by Diana as she mistakes them for donovan and julie: the point is, they're speaking supposedly the "alien" language (although it sounds Russian, to me) - well the book by A.C. Crispin says that the aliens had to learn our language because they "can't speak the alien language while wearing the [human] masks!!!"

unfortunately where it falls flat is when they turn to the side and you can tell that those big lizard noses and jaws would never fit underneath the human mask (which has the sound effect of stretching rubber gloves, incidentally) :)

The sci-fi movie-makers and book-writers all want to do rip-off stories of Star Wars and Star Trek. Screw Star Wars and Star Trek! Screw 'em with light sabers and copies of Han Solo's blaster. I want more science fiction on EARTH, damn it. Let's have more alien society versus planet Earth stuff! Bringing back V would be a start.
