Trevor Bolder is right: The Spiders/Ziggy album bridged the gap between heavy metal and pop sounds of the day. Ziggy Stardust does stand the test of time - although I am another who holds Hunky Dory above all those early abums. The one thread that runs true thorugh all the early Bowie 70s albums is that each and every one - from "David Bowie" through to "Lodger" is so very different from the next - and this is just one of the main reasons which sets Bowie apart from the rest.
Whatever....Semi quaver cello runs....(3:58) are....Mick was so much more than an axeman! Really talented arranger, producer, keyboards, bass and lead guitar, and a good singer as well!
How anybody can say this album doesn't hold up is beyond me! I used to listen to this back in the 70s when I was a kid and I still think it's a classic! Hunky Dory is my all time favourite Bowie album but Ziggy will always be a classic.
I owned the documentary, but not for long. The only interesting sections are from the guys actually in the band, especially Trevor. The rest is an example of how to make a buck with dumb opinions. Watch it all on YouTube, please don't buy it
I have to definitely disagree with the guy on here who says the Ziggy album doesn't hold up all these years later. To me it gets better and better every time I hear it.
For years I had hoped someone would do a documentary like this and recall the day I was flipping through Bowie dvd's in a music shop and found this title 'Inside Bowie and the Spiders '72-74'. The whole dvd is really a well done analysis of what I consider the greatest band of all time. Terrific seeing the interviews with Trevor and Woody but a shame that it was done after Mick's passing. Considering the fact that Bowie himself is not at all interviewed in the dvd it's still well worth it.
Im of who couldn't fathom the heavy drowzier bluezed-out stuff getting on after the Beatles and this was elegant formation for intellectuality=Trevor you are soo right> love2you all,Woody,MickS,and David.See those lyrics were and are more mileage than Dylan well really..Brits are just soo good at Rock! I want this style back a royalty rock if you will!> and(guitars of harmony even like with Queen's harmonies WHERE'D THE ELEGANCE GO?! Needs to resurgeMerge =David can you dig it?!
Top TOP comment! BOWIE changed the course of music 4 times in just one decade!!! he was the 70's BEATLES ps his production on IGGY POP's THE IDIOT!! one of my fave albums of all time!!! ps U ever seen these dumb forums where people are arguing whos KING of the 70's ELTON or BOWIE!!! lost people!!

I love Hunky Dory, but anybody who doesn't think Ziggy Stardust stands up as a great, cohesive work must surely have a turd for a brain.

I wish they'd leave out all the stupid commentary from people I've never heard of. I'd rather just hear from the people who were there.

Thought The LP that 'The Spiders' did after leaving Bowie had some really great tunes on it! Still Listen to it now and then!

Pip Williams (who really knows his stuff) mentions @ 1:31 that an autoharp is used in "Five Years" --LOL!
I remember those awful blardy things from general music class as a kid, and for years I just *knew* they were strumming one of 'em during that tune.
Anyway, what an absolute gem this and the other doc are --cheers for posting.
