they were massive...the whole "new gold dream" is a masterpiece....80's in one of its positivest aspects, pop as it should be....wishfulness, eternal.....sad that they turned to the dark side after "sparkle in the rain"..
Hard to imagine a better gig than this one. I 've seen the 'minds more times than I can mention, but I was just too young to see them in '82. I don't think they've ever been better than they are here - just peerless.
I've owned this album since I was 12, I am now 40. I listen to it as much now as I ever did. It has a quality to it that allows it to transcend the 80's label and makes it imo one of the greatest albums of all time. I work out to it, I nap to it, I read to it, I dream to it, I trumpet this album wherever I go.
I was there that night.. standing in front of Derek a couple of rows back. Absolutely wonderful, one of those nights you remember forever.. They were never as good after Derek left though. This is as good as they ever were.
I've a Wharfedale Diamond III speaker in front of me producing your sound right in my face. I know the old SM tapes, and will gladly admit that you are a sound wizzard :-D. This is not the only SM video you blow me away with. Genius sound technician + love for music: Keep up the good work!
I always thought it was amusing that Charlie, Jim and Derek always seemed to be jigging along to a different track to each other. Never so obvious as in this example.
Ohh, Dexbam, you have done an amazing job! The sound quality is the best I have heard with these Audiotechnica Headphone and my computer. Many thanx !!
this is the b side to waterfront. simple minds are held in very high reguard in newcastle. the band seems to have an affinity there and this gig in 1982 was the beginning of it.
I was a bit too young for this first time round, as I was only 12. But a few years later, I'd come back from the pub every weekend night, and jam in into the video (not BetamaX!), sit back with a bag of crisps and chill...... Michael's keyboard sounds fantastic whether sober or pished, or when half-cut!
Back again! Ahh! What is it about this track? The combinations - the tingles start with the rolling bass and high hat, the thump of bass set against 'shooting from th hip about our faith and love', Charlie's lick just after th first 'temptation'!!!! That drum roll at 2:35! Booooyacka sha! Can you detect a bit of 'soul' from Jim at 3:06 (lie)? Go Jimmy u stammering wonderboy! The smiling Mick gives a good rendition of th Herbie Hancock solo. Man, I'd give my left shin 2 have been in Newc in 82!
Listening to Mel's high hat and solid kick drum in line with Forbes' bass is all i need! Addicted to this track. LIFE MOOOOOVES SO FAST! Only with you....
5 star mate, this is from there best period, great line up and you have done a good job on the editing...Seen thema couple of times on this tour...Some brilliantly creative stuff they done back then...
Superb audio editing if theres any way you could do the same for the songs from the dortmund 84 gig i would worship at your feet lol, great versions on youtube but a little noisy in the sound department
