Poor Anna! She was robbed several times at the Olympics. Athens - in AA, it should have a bronze medal on the balance on a log - also bronze. Beijing - it is better to make a log than Fеi ... It's sad and unfair!
For whatever reason Anna always reminds me of Vanessa Atler. I loved her and I've still never seen a floor routine as amazing and actually performed with musicality as she did but it's like Anna (as Vanessa) just can't get it all together ya know?
Cheng fei wobbled a lot, but this is so much cleaner, she and pavlova have the same difficulty and I think Anna should have gotten bronze instead of cheng fei.
I love Cheng Fei, she's one of my favourites BUT seriously, we all know she's not a beam specialist :S and from watching her on beam I just know that she's not better than Anna on beam :S like nowhere near xD
After watching this I think they just need to bring back scores that carry over from the optionals. I mean..Pavlova qualified for 3 out of 4 Event Finals but didn't even get in the top 5 of the all around. I am glad they will change the rules after this olympics
@angelz114577 Except that Anna is older than Nastia and has been doing all of those skills since she was 11 years old (the oldest video I found). She also has original skills like the Kolesnikova and the Omelianchik, skills that Nastia never performed. Plus, Anna has a better technique and is more elegant. You can call me biaised, but I say that Nastia's routine is a weak rendition of Anna's beautiful work.
@Missnewyork28 I would say that you can be considered quite biased, because although Anna may be a very talented gymnast, her moves are very weak and unfocused for someone who has been "doing all of these skills since she was eleven". And her elegance is no where near Nastia's level, thus the reason she didnt even medal..... older clearly doesnt always mean better.
@angelz114577 Unfocused ? Not at all. She is very focused, she is just a headcase. She is very weak mentally. That is HER problem. That's what prevent her from winning lots of medal. She puts too much pressure on her shoulder and can't handle it. Nastia is nowhere near Anna's elegance. Nastia doesn't even have a good ballet training, she was just doing unelegant hand moves and buttshelves,, and showing off her flexibility. I can't call this elegant. I call it fake.
@Missnewyork28 I'm sorry that you are getting so offended, but I really never see it. You say she is this great gymnast, and don't get me wrong because I'm not saying she isn't, but being mentally weak is almost the same as failing, because that is how this sport is. And all of these skills she supposedly has that makes her "real", have not been present. Point blank.
@angelz114577 I'm not, Pav is my favorite gymnast and people who don't know her gymnastics assume she is not a good gymnast, or unfocused when it's completely the opposite. She loves gymnastics so much that she did not give up even if she shore her ACL after two OG. Beijing was a nghtmare to her, she never hit that year but watch her performance in Athens (where she really got screwed by judges, she should have got silver) and you'll see a different Anna, a performer !
@angelz114577 Anna's moves are very weak... Well, I wouldn't say a stuck double layout on floor is weak! Nastia certainly couldn't do that. She was training one but it was too difficult for her. Probably because she couldn't cowboy a layout. Did you know Anna was doing triple twist floor dismounts when she was twelve? That was Nastia's second pass in 05 wasn't it? Nastia was 15. And Anna is SOOOOO much more elegant than Nastia. Nastia just POSES. Anna DANCES. Anna's beam routine is also harder!
@freeBITCH0 Yes, her difficulty is downgraded. That skill (Kolesnikova) is not counted as a skill so instead of using that as a D (.4), she has to settle for her next highest element to use in her A Panel score.
I cant believe she didnt medal!! her routine was amazing! so much elegance, but also power too! i love the way russian gymnasts present it's so beautiful.
@javito1229 Well ok fine she did it amazingly but I actually like the other dimounts better, and also Nai Ruoyu when she was like 13 could do a triple twist dismount , unfortunately a hip injury caused her not to join the olympics.
It makes me cringe when I see other gymnasts performing a "switch ring leap" and get the credit for it when it's so far from Anna's perfect switch ring. In terms of arch back and knee position, she is just the best. No one can come close.
@javito1229 I just mean that is insane that the requirement in a switch ring is to have your back foot at head height and she has her KNEE at head height!! She is amazing!!
Of course Anna was underscored so many times ! She did amazing and risky skills, she has the best jumps, she is graceful and elegant, not a huge straight box a muscles. Her perform in the AA was so underscored, she did small mistakes. Here, she didn't held the skill but her difficulty was higher and she had no wobbles. China got their medals only because they were the host country and because their gymnasts have been overtrained since they are BABIES! Anna is so the best, judges are blind !
It seems like the Chinese gymnasts always steal her medals. First back in 2004 when she lost her bronze to Zhang Nana, the vault final where Cheng Fei took the bronze because she started before the green light and here where Cheng Fei took her bronze AGAIN! I mean I love the Chinese but seriously, Pavlova really deserved many medals and was always robbed :(
the only deduction that i can find is obviously her kolesnikova (0.4), Spin (0.1), out of line in the omelianchik (0.1), little wobble in the sheep jump (0.1), leg crossed in the triple twist (0.1), step on the dismount (0.1). therefore her total: 6.8 + 9.1 = 15.9 she is NOT underscored! LOVE HER SWITCH SPLIT RING LEAP THOUGH!!
What a shady breakdown of execution scores from the 6 B-Panel judges though, the difference is four tenths! A score of 9.00 is far too low for a beam routine like this! She definitely should have gotten at least a 16.000 because she is never underscored...not even this was fairly scored in comparison to Cheng Fei just like it was in 2004!!!!
@natalienat518 Not only a bronze, but a gold! She'd boost her SV to 7.1 and she'd probably gain another 1 or 3 tenths to her execution and get her score at least up to the 16.3's!
Cheng Fei does not have an astounding switch ring, artistry & choreography, or a triple twist dismount which is worth as much as a back full. Anna's sheep jump is at 1:24. Cheng Fei's routine is simply stop-go-stop-go-chuck skill-chuck skill and cookie-cutter combinations like switch split-back tuck and the popular aerial-rulfova, you'd think she was a Romanian with Izbasa's style.
Cheng Fei overscored, Pavlova either fairly scored or underscored as she has never been overscored!
@chocolatefan1711 Totally true ! She had no wobbles. And actually, she just lose the A score from 7.2 to 6.8, she should have won !! And even, she could have beaten both Nastia and Shawn by holding the Ezhova :/ Well I say that, but judges seem to love Nastia and Shawn so much that they would have overscore them to make them beat Anna...That sucks, she is so great !
I was hoping for her to maybe connect the Ezhova from the side somi...in Athens she did that combination in her sleep and it was a full twisting flick that cost her the medal and not the big combination in the beginning. She had the highest potential start value if she hit the skill of 7.1 and add 0.3 to execution and if she connected the side somi to the Ezhova it would have been 7.3!
what an incredibly gorgeous routine..... definitely my favorite to watch of this olympics games, even if it doesn't have the SV of some of the others.
she had the same A score as cheng fei but performed way better than cheng fei...she definitely deserved the bronze...i don't think better than liukin or johnson, but definitely a bronze...cheng fei's routine was just too choppy with a lot of pauses and some breaks and stuff
yeah, she just cant seem to pull it all together for the olympics...i like cheng fei as well, but i think she lucked out on both her beam and vault medals...she totally wiped out on her second vault, but still medalled...with that said though, i can't really argue against it too much cause it was totally legit based on the COP...all in all, i thought it was a relatively good competition at the olympics :)
@Sirui11 She's not good enough for a medal in Beijing, and her team. No body pushed them to fall on beam or run out of floor and they never hit triple twist perfect, no matter it's beam or floor.
Was 0.3 off her start value, Cheng Fei had as much as 0.4 off her back handspring-tucked full combination, and numerous more deductions from the spin, back pike, and dismount. Anna had maybe another deduction for failing the Ezhova, the sheep jump, and the dismount. It was a toss-up, and while I'm biased towards artistry, but Pavlova's had more fluidity with the switch ring and triple twist dismount to boot, while Cheng Fei had an excellent front tuck and legs locked together on dismount.
Its so painful to watch her. My heart breaks every time for her because she never gets the score she deserves. She will always be my favourite gymnast and No amount of medals will change that I just really want her to WIN!!!
@JustSophiaL She was no doubt one of the most talented beam workers here, but she had several noticeable errors. It's such a shame that she never really seemed to perform to the best of her abilities when it mattered. She definitely had the goods to win gold.
anyone who ever attempts to try a ring leap on beam is really brave. Hers is AMAZING. I dont think the common un-informed person understands how hard that is to do on beam.
Had she completed the Kolesnikova (or Ezhova/Grebenkova), she would have gotten gold, the entire skill was downgraded losing 0.3 but she still salvaged a 6.8 DV because she connected the Aerial Walkover to the Side Somersault, which she had failed to do in prelims, team, and all-around.
Even with this routine she should have had at least a bronze, I admit I'm biased, but when I watch Cheng Fei's routine it has so many pauses and breaks, Anna's continues on and on with the artistry!
poor anna was robbed of bronze in the 2004 AA (as was svetlana, robbed of gold), ksenia robbed of bronze in this olympic AA, and now anna's robbed again in this final? whats with the judges always robbing the russian girls
@481095ymg2 i couldnt agree more..it is way too obvious that anna has much cleaner routine than cheng fei who got bronze in this event..why is it now that chinese are favored more?what i expect is that russian and american gymnast go head to head and i can they are far more stronger.

@BrittanyxKilla - Pavlova cert was robbed in Athens by boring Zhang Nang but its debatable if Khorkina was robbed......was she really worthy by 2004 of being AA champion? shaky beam routines and no longer original bar routines hmmmm maybe not.....
@BrittanyxKilla look at gymnastics in the '80s. I guess its just payback for the multiple undeserved titles that the soviet gymnasts were being handed over the bulgarians, romanians, and hungarians. It totally sucks that Pavlova in particular had to pay for that though. She was spectacular.
I am disgusted that this beautiful gymnast never got the justice she deserved; how can any judge NOT decide that this is worth a medal??? Fucking crazy people.
i love how female commentors usually talk about the important stuff and the men commnetators such as this one and some like al trautwig just kind of state facts most people know and ask rhetorical questions.
She is fabulous. Gymnasts should all do leaps like these. Shawn Johnson should have never been credited her jump series because she never reached 180.
I don't think that makes her lose the series. I think it's just a deduction. If it's a high enough deduction, THEN she loses the series, but I can't see her getting a high enough deduction for that to completely lose credit. Which is not to say that she ever hit 180 on the split leap, because she didn't.
Johnson was leaps and bounds above all who performed in this beam final. Nastia's beam routine was a conglomeration antiquaited 1980's moves. Get with the progarm.. dismount with a full in or a triple twist like Pavlova! Liukin should not have been on the podium on beam and floor. Freeze fram Johnson's split lips they look 180 to me...
Anna Pavlova definitely is the best gymnast or one of the best atleast. She has the best body shape (her legs amaze me every time) and she has such difficult skills and a style unlike anyone else that I've ever seen. She truly is one of the Gymnastic Greats even though she's not won Gold at the Olympics or the Worlds she's certainly the best. Plus the Chinese totally fixed the medals at Beijing. It's plainly obvious and many commentators agree and not just in gymnastics but in other sports too!!
shes defintly a master of elements and skills. its so hard to watch other gymnasts after pavlova, cause she does it the best. other people skills can even compare.
she's a beautiful gymnast ! and she doesn't deserf all the misery she hase got on the olympics in 2004 , the AA with only O,2... points and she hase got the bronse and now this just the same and only O.O5O and i like her style so much she's a great alroundgymnast execpt her bars is a litlle bith worser but it stil beautyil sorry for my bat english
I think this how the judges deducted her. But I really think she deserved the bronze. Her A score deducted by .1 because she didn't hold her Kolesnikova for the full 2 seconds
If she checks her Onodi, then everyone in the Olympics who had an Onodi had a balance check too. I didn't see a better one in the entire competition.
Actually, her A score was deducted by 0.2. She didn't get credit for the Ezhova (D=0.4) but she connected the aerial walkover to the side somi (+0.2CV), which she had failed to do in the prelims, TF and AA.
PS: She didn't have a balance check on the Onodi and she didn't under rotate the dismount. But she lost 0.3 on the Ezhova alone :-(
Ahh, I see, I can't believe she lost .3 on just the Ezhova. For the onodi, I was honestly grasping for something to deduct her on, I did notice that there was a bit of a dip in her shoulders. Her dismount is a touch under rotated if you pause it at just the right time you will notice that her feet is not exactly square with the beam.
From what I can see, she made it all the way round on the dismount, but the judges could have taken up to 0.3 off for the step. Remember that they deduct according to what they see and we can both agree that you can't see an underrotared dismount in real time.
Yes in real time it does look all the way around, but I wonder do the judges get slow motion? I remember seeing them reviewing Shawn Johnson's vault in the AA. After reviewing the video, I do see that Pavlova's step is about a shoulders width so I think I would deduct a .3. Either way, she deserved that bronze way more than Cheng Fei.
I agee, Johnson is more about technique while Liukin is more about dance and elegance. But I like them both. Johnson is quite powerful though, and very solid.
I wish Shown would go back to gymnastics so we could see how she fares after Dancing With the Stars. I wonder if she would be more elegant/graceful like Nastia...
Johnson IS deducted every single time for her split leaps. Where else do you think her deductions would come from? Her landings are always pretty solid, except for the dismount, and her form is decent.
she has such elegance and beauty.

@natalienat518 Not only a bronze, but a gold! She'd boost her SV to 7.1 and she'd probably gain another 1 or 3 tenths to her execution and get her score at least up to the 16.3's!
ChainChomp2 1 year ago
It was a little underscored, but Anna didn't do a flic-flac back full ora sheep jump
SuperMrpuffy 1 year ago
Cheng Fei does not have an astounding switch ring, artistry & choreography, or a triple twist dismount which is worth as much as a back full. Anna's sheep jump is at 1:24. Cheng Fei's routine is simply stop-go-stop-go-chuck skill-chuck skill and cookie-cutter combinations like switch split-back tuck and the popular aerial-rulfova, you'd think she was a Romanian with Izbasa's style.
Cheng Fei overscored, Pavlova either fairly scored or underscored as she has never been overscored!
ChainChomp2 1 year ago 2
@ChainChomp2 Anna never underscored, and her nation never underscored, they already had so many medals that they're not deserved.
yueshili 1 year ago
@SuperMrpuffy
Pavlova does do a sheep jump. She does a split jump then a sheep jump combination right before she sets up for her dismount.
Well at least I think it's a split jump. Either that or a split leap. I can never tell the difference. I think it's a split jump.
Anyway the point is that she does a sheep jump lol.

she was robbed in the beam final!!! there is NO way cheng fei could madeled over her!!!
chocolatefan1711 2 years ago 54
@chocolatefan1711 Totally true ! She had no wobbles. And actually, she just lose the A score from 7.2 to 6.8, she should have won !! And even, she could have beaten both Nastia and Shawn by holding the Ezhova :/ Well I say that, but judges seem to love Nastia and Shawn so much that they would have overscore them to make them beat Anna...That sucks, she is so great !
Missnewyork28 1 year ago 10
@Missnewyork28 I believe you mean the Kolesnikova. But yes, Anna's beam was much more enjoyable to watch.
ShawnVikaKomova2012 7 months ago
Did the judges count the Kolesnikova?
markedexclusive 2 years ago
No, they didn't.
ChainChomp2 2 years ago
@markedexclusive They didn't,when you do a handstand on beam, you have to hold it for 2 seconds, but she was short and they didn't count it... :(

best split leap ever!!!!!

@EverythingElse723 i definitely agree!
benrobinson77 2 years ago
I was hoping for her to maybe connect the Ezhova from the side somi...in Athens she did that combination in her sleep and it was a full twisting flick that cost her the medal and not the big combination in the beginning. She had the highest potential start value if she hit the skill of 7.1 and add 0.3 to execution and if she connected the side somi to the Ezhova it would have been 7.3!

Crisemee321 2 years ago
what an incredibly gorgeous routine..... definitely my favorite to watch of this olympics games, even if it doesn't have the SV of some of the others.
evoandy 2 years ago
she ALWAYS ends up 4th in the olympics. all russians do. its not fair.
comanecisalto1 2 years ago
she had the same A score as cheng fei but performed way better than cheng fei...she definitely deserved the bronze...i don't think better than liukin or johnson, but definitely a bronze...cheng fei's routine was just too choppy with a lot of pauses and some breaks and stuff
toomuchgoingon 2 years ago
Totally Agree, even I am a Chinese, Both Cheng Fei and Anna experienced a disapointted Olympics, but Anna deserve at least a medal.
Sirui11 2 years ago
yeah, she just cant seem to pull it all together for the olympics...i like cheng fei as well, but i think she lucked out on both her beam and vault medals...she totally wiped out on her second vault, but still medalled...with that said though, i can't really argue against it too much cause it was totally legit based on the COP...all in all, i thought it was a relatively good competition at the olympics :)
toomuchgoingon 2 years ago
@Sirui11 She's not good enough for a medal in Beijing, and her team. No body pushed them to fall on beam or run out of floor and they never hit triple twist perfect, no matter it's beam or floor.
yueshili 1 year ago
she missed an entire skill, i don't see how this was any better than cheng fei
speedofpee 2 years ago
Was 0.3 off her start value, Cheng Fei had as much as 0.4 off her back handspring-tucked full combination, and numerous more deductions from the spin, back pike, and dismount. Anna had maybe another deduction for failing the Ezhova, the sheep jump, and the dismount. It was a toss-up, and while I'm biased towards artistry, but Pavlova's had more fluidity with the switch ring and triple twist dismount to boot, while Cheng Fei had an excellent front tuck and legs locked together on dismount.
ChainChomp2 2 years ago
Its so painful to watch her. My heart breaks every time for her because she never gets the score she deserves. She will always be my favourite gymnast and No amount of medals will change that I just really want her to WIN!!!
JustSophiaL 2 years ago 12
@JustSophiaL She was no doubt one of the most talented beam workers here, but she had several noticeable errors. It's such a shame that she never really seemed to perform to the best of her abilities when it mattered. She definitely had the goods to win gold.
ccaruso81 8 months ago
anyone who ever attempts to try a ring leap on beam is really brave. Hers is AMAZING. I dont think the common un-informed person understands how hard that is to do on beam.
benrobinson77 2 years ago

Had she completed the Kolesnikova (or Ezhova/Grebenkova), she would have gotten gold, the entire skill was downgraded losing 0.3 but she still salvaged a 6.8 DV because she connected the Aerial Walkover to the Side Somersault, which she had failed to do in prelims, team, and all-around.
Even with this routine she should have had at least a bronze, I admit I'm biased, but when I watch Cheng Fei's routine it has so many pauses and breaks, Anna's continues on and on with the artistry!
ChainChomp2 2 years ago
poor anna was robbed of bronze in the 2004 AA (as was svetlana, robbed of gold), ksenia robbed of bronze in this olympic AA, and now anna's robbed again in this final? whats with the judges always robbing the russian girls
BrittanyxKilla 2 years ago 38
yeah, the judges steal from the russians and then give what they've stolen to the chinese.

@481095ymg2 i couldnt agree more..it is way too obvious that anna has much cleaner routine than cheng fei who got bronze in this event..why is it now that chinese are favored more?what i expect is that russian and american gymnast go head to head and i can they are far more stronger.

@BrittanyxKilla - Pavlova cert was robbed in Athens by boring Zhang Nang but its debatable if Khorkina was robbed......was she really worthy by 2004 of being AA champion? shaky beam routines and no longer original bar routines hmmmm maybe not.....
garyj79 1 year ago
@BrittanyxKilla look at gymnastics in the '80s. I guess its just payback for the multiple undeserved titles that the soviet gymnasts were being handed over the bulgarians, romanians, and hungarians. It totally sucks that Pavlova in particular had to pay for that though. She was spectacular.

mrflipz 2 years ago
She is fabulous. Gymnasts should all do leaps like these. Shawn Johnson should have never been credited her jump series because she never reached 180.
sqekcx 2 years ago 3
I don't think that makes her lose the series. I think it's just a deduction. If it's a high enough deduction, THEN she loses the series, but I can't see her getting a high enough deduction for that to completely lose credit. Which is not to say that she ever hit 180 on the split leap, because she didn't.
auswriteratheart 2 years ago
Johnson was leaps and bounds above all who performed in this beam final. Nastia's beam routine was a conglomeration antiquaited 1980's moves. Get with the progarm.. dismount with a full in or a triple twist like Pavlova! Liukin should not have been on the podium on beam and floor. Freeze fram Johnson's split lips they look 180 to me...
desglacons 2 years ago
Anna Pavlova definitely is the best gymnast or one of the best atleast. She has the best body shape (her legs amaze me every time) and she has such difficult skills and a style unlike anyone else that I've ever seen. She truly is one of the Gymnastic Greats even though she's not won Gold at the Olympics or the Worlds she's certainly the best. Plus the Chinese totally fixed the medals at Beijing. It's plainly obvious and many commentators agree and not just in gymnastics but in other sports too!!
AdamLake1 2 years ago 3
shes defintly a master of elements and skills. its so hard to watch other gymnasts after pavlova, cause she does it the best. other people skills can even compare.

willsbob123 2 years ago
I think this how the judges deducted her. But I really think she deserved the bronze. Her A score deducted by .1 because she didn't hold her Kolesnikova for the full 2 seconds
.1 lack of control on her Kolesnikova
.1 piking slightly on her layout
.1 the balance check on her turn
.1 the balance check on her Onodi
.1 the balance check on her sheep jump
.1 crossing of the ankles on her dismount
.1 under rotating on her dismount
.1 landing with her legs apart on her dismount
.1 step on her landing
TsubasaDreams 2 years ago 2
that was a great breakdown. Can you do this for more Beijing Olympics videos?
Angelfish821 2 years ago
Thanks, I could, are there any you would like me to do especially?
TsubasaDreams 2 years ago
If she checks her Onodi, then everyone in the Olympics who had an Onodi had a balance check too. I didn't see a better one in the entire competition.
airad2 2 years ago
Actually, her A score was deducted by 0.2. She didn't get credit for the Ezhova (D=0.4) but she connected the aerial walkover to the side somi (+0.2CV), which she had failed to do in the prelims, TF and AA.
PS: She didn't have a balance check on the Onodi and she didn't under rotate the dismount. But she lost 0.3 on the Ezhova alone :-(
Darkangel127 2 years ago 2
Ahh, I see, I can't believe she lost .3 on just the Ezhova. For the onodi, I was honestly grasping for something to deduct her on, I did notice that there was a bit of a dip in her shoulders. Her dismount is a touch under rotated if you pause it at just the right time you will notice that her feet is not exactly square with the beam.
TsubasaDreams 2 years ago
From what I can see, she made it all the way round on the dismount, but the judges could have taken up to 0.3 off for the step. Remember that they deduct according to what they see and we can both agree that you can't see an underrotared dismount in real time.
Darkangel127 2 years ago
Yes in real time it does look all the way around, but I wonder do the judges get slow motion? I remember seeing them reviewing Shawn Johnson's vault in the AA. After reviewing the video, I do see that Pavlova's step is about a shoulders width so I think I would deduct a .3. Either way, she deserved that bronze way more than Cheng Fei.
TsubasaDreams 2 years ago
i think tht the medals should have gone
1.liukin
2.pavlova
3.johnson
and im from the usa. shawn just has no dancer in her...which is not good 4 beam.
tumblindrums10 2 years ago 3
I agee, Johnson is more about technique while Liukin is more about dance and elegance. But I like them both. Johnson is quite powerful though, and very solid.
musicheat 2 years ago
i agree, shawn shuold have won in the AA competition, but not in beam, the most clean routine was Liukin's
jacoblack02 2 years ago
in normal competition i would agree tht shawn should have one all around, but i do think nastia performed better tht nite.
tumblindrums10 2 years ago
I wish Shown would go back to gymnastics so we could see how she fares after Dancing With the Stars. I wonder if she would be more elegant/graceful like Nastia...
trevorheald 2 years ago
johnson should have deducted for her every leap they werent nearly splits. she didn't show enough flexibility
BoguinskayaZ 2 years ago
Johnson IS deducted every single time for her split leaps. Where else do you think her deductions would come from? Her landings are always pretty solid, except for the dismount, and her form is decent.
