@rhall4th bingo! you got it, although the (cover) in the title should have been a dead give away. in case you don't know, a cover is a version performed by someone other than the original artist :)
@Pequinito hello just looking arround for donna and walk right into your version of donna and let me say nice job. I also recorded my version of donna maby you should check it out but for now rock n roll never dies
Hey man. I'm 19, but belive me when I say Ritchie Valens would be very proud. You sound close, not exactly like him, but close enough. I'm impressed, and I will love those 3 guys forever. Rock on, man.
@Multi80sguy Thank you very much. No one can top Ritchie on this song, I'm just happy to pay my tribute to one of the greats. Appreciate your kind comment :)
Hey, Pequinito, checking out Buddy Holley clips & I see your excellent cover of "Donna." I'll have to check your other Buddy Holley covers. Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)
I dont know if you notice but every great artice thats meant to be somebody big, he always dies young, like, 2pac the noutouries big and several other famouse people what do you think.................
Thanks for subscribing, pequinito. It's really early here in California, but I'll say "Good Morning." (Even though I'm going back to bed for an hour).
Pequinito, if I'd only known about this video, I would have recorded that KGO-Radio interview this morning. Not only did they interview J.P. Richardson, Jr., but the hosts interviewed Donna Ludwig of "Donna" fame and Bob Morales (Ritchie's older brother). I would have recorded it and sent it to you! Love your videos. It's like reliving my childhood. This old lady thanks you a big bunch!!!
Nedrall, thank you for your kind and gracious comments! I would indeed have loved to have seen the interview, and thanks for thinking of me. I'm so glad you like our videos. We too relive our childhood through these videos :D (big smile!)
Pequinito, the radio stations around here are reminding us that February 3rd is the date of "The Day the Music Died." Donna Fox (formerly Ludwig) has been interviewed on the early morning TV news and just now on the radio. Such a sweet story about her and Ritchie. Donna had to sneak around to see Ritchie. Her Dad (a white man) did not approve of Donna dating a Mexican. So sad to think about how happy and how sad those days were. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the memories!
Such a sad occasion, but on the positive side, their music lives on and on. Thanks for all your lovely comments, it really cheer us all up to read them :)
You are absolutely right. Sometimes when I'm checking out You Tube for all the oldies I grew up with, I love reviewing the profiles of the comment posters. When you see how much the young audience (I'm close to collecting a pension) appreciate the fantastic talents of the early days of rock 'n roll, it gives me a lift. Thank you, Pequinito, for singing them and keeping them in front of the big You Tube audience. (By the way, are you a performer yourself? You do a great job on your covers).
We're enjoying your singing out here in rainy California. What could be better than singing and posting it here for the rest of the world to share. Forget the critics. There are plenty of dour and sour types who appoint themselves critics-at-large. You see them all over You Tube. Keep up the good work, pequinito! As for those critics, take no notice.
Superb post! I live in L.A.'S jampacked northeast San Fernando Valley just a few short minutes from where Ritchie and his family lived. And other than the tribute city park, have never come close to finding any personal Ritchie landmarks. Note: Many L.A. celberity survior families like to stay descrite. Fearing a "Graceland" type stampede. And it works. Nobody lives closer than me and I'm not even making a scratch. Thanks again!
I wonder all the time who Ritchie's living family survivors actually are. He never married or had children. Chances are his mother and brother are gone maybe. His brother did have a little girl. If she's it, all music residual profit goes to her. I just bought his lone album/CD at Hollywood's huge Aomeba record store. The manager told me his profits keep pouring in.
Trivia- a guitar player Don LaForge, alias Donnie Boyd, wrote the original song Donna. On occasion, Donnie played backup for Elvis and Richie. Donnie heard from Richie that he broke up from his girlfriend named Donna so he gave him the song to impress her. Richie made it into a hit after signing to Del-Fi. The story doesnt end there... Don LaForge later married. He and his wife had a daughter they named Donna. I dated Donna LaForge as a teenager. Since she left me... Ive never been the same.
Lovely version of "Donna" It takes courage to do a tribute to such classic songs, leaving yourself to be compared to the original. You do a very nice job.
Mmmmmm, I'm enjoying this song so much, Pequinito. I love this melody and it sounds so good with your voice. Superb! Just love it! 5 stars for you! Encore!
Wait - that's not Ritchie singing.
