Ever summer, I'm off work I watch all my Leone movies. This summer's viewing of Once Upon a Time in the West confirmed it's my favorite Leone movie.. The soundtrack is glorious too. I don't care too much for 'Bad Orchestra', but the rest of it is fantastic. This swelling masterpiece is beautiful. My 5-year old son loves Farewell to Cheyenne the best.
The amazing thing about this movie and the music is the fact that it's 43 years old. The movie is still broadcasted on tv ones a year aprox. I don't know any other titles with the same age which are broadcasted aswell.
Every now and then I play the cd during diner or in my car. Really magnificent. Even my eleven year old son likes the music.
Apparently, George Lucas listened to this score a lot when writing The Empire Strikes Back; it makes sense, the epicness and romance are all there in the music.
This song is the most beautiful film score that I have ever heard! It makes my heart ache just to hear it! This film has to be the most underrated film of all time!
The genius of the Morricone/Leone partnership is that the score/music summed up the moods and emotions of the characters so brilliantly, that the characters did not need many worsd in their script. Hence Clint, Bronson etc hardly speak considering they are main characters-they do not need to. This is what movies should be about, scenary, cinematography and score. Everything else then falls into place.
I was 21 when this movie was released...I am now 63, and just saw it for the first time!... (In '69, the US release was highly edited, garnered scathing reviews and was a box office dud, so I avoided it.) My local library had the Collector's Edition, so I thought "Why not?"... WOW!...As it ended, and I sat there - tears rolling down my face - I realized I had just seen one of the greatest films ever made - western or otherwise!...Sergio Leone was a genius, and Ennio's score - simply gorgeous!
Love to watch the western movies of this period, super time! With one more special thing when watching it nowadays: they are eternals! Ennio was a master in his job!
why is this so short? i got this suondtrack on my iPod and it's 13:17 mins long! Anyways thsi i one of the greatest and best directed movie i've ever seen.
just watched this on tcm what a great film guess i hadnt seen it in a long time.everything about it makes you feel good about being a real guy again, the music scerenry, the cold facts of it all.where are all those people today.
No question it is the greatest, yet most unknown, Western movie of all time. Quentin Tarantino bases just about all of his work on this -- via Sergio Leone, Charles Bronson, and the movie score. Yet, even with Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and all of the rest, nothing can touch this movie. Nothing. And, could there have been a more beautiful woman in the world as Claudia Cardinale? No. This movie has EVERYTHING.
Some of my friends try to act like they're really into art and stuff, and say that they love good movies and books, but when I show them pieces of art like these, they can't behave themselves.
I'm someone who likes good quality films, this one certainly is. And than I got friends who like shit like Jim carry, "you don't mess with the zoan" (or something), "date movie", "dude where is my car" etc.
well, this is the best western ever, but still, avatar did have more viewers in the cinema. if this movie was created in 2010,with still the same scenes nothing different in it,this would be best viewed ever!!
Compare this movie to today's crap like 2012 and avatar, they're that desparate that they make crappy remakes of the a-team, robin hood and the karate kid.
At the beginning of the movie, why were those guys waiting for Bronson? Like how did they know he'd be coming? Or were they just waiting for any strangers getting off?
@ccrich100 Harmonica had somehow come in contact with someone who knew Frank and wanted to arrange a meeting with him. Instead of meeting him, Frank hired those 3 guys to kill whomever was going to meet him at that train station, because Frank didn't want anyone to find him. He had too many enemies.
Harmonica's brother/father was murdered by Frank, so Harmonica set himself out to destroy the bastard. Those men were collateral, to see if Harmonica was up to the job. If they failed, Frank knew he would have to start stepping up.
The Music completes this masterpiece and The scenes and characters in this film are so brilliantly created. Everytime I see this film, its less a movie, and more a memory.
Amazing music, ennio morricone is a hero!! And so is Sergio Leone, Once upon a time in the west and The Good the Bad and the Ugly are the best Westerns ever made!
