  • And I thought the Hambugler was a bandit.

  • esto es una verdadera estupidez, el que halla echo esto parece ser un ignorante, lastima

  • I didn't take it! I had the yellow one. I think yours was blue...

  • who stole my frito bandito pencil eraser !????

  • I speak just like this guy... He does not have an acceny... Lol NOT!!! i like how ppl are so quick to be racist.... Ita america ppl theres all kinds of races here... See i just got back to cali from Canada.... And up there they hate a

  • @bagelsandstuff That's being a stereotype. It's like if I said:

P.s. I hate bagelsandstuff , this person makes a lot of biased comments!!!

  • ah, the good old days, when judges had the balls not to let people sue for every little thing.

  • Plus let's not forget that the way the Bandito pulls off this scam is pretty brilliant. Worthy of The Man with No Name or something. How can you feel insulted by being stereotyped as a criminal mastermind?

  • So..to those PC bellyachers..who complain about"The Frito Bandito"..Just enjoy this character..stop complaining and Shut The Hell Up!

  • Dear Dave,I agree with you..I never felt that this character is very offensive..He's funny and silly..but not offensive.Although..I had said in a previous post that this character didn't endear himself to hispanic tv viewers..the bellyaching towards this little guy is overdone.

  • I'm sure that this animated commercial character didn't endear himself to the hispanic tv viewers.

  • Never seen such a charismatic crisps mascot.

  • @EvanRHAP I loved those erasers had them on all my pencils!

  • I am 12 and what is this.

ps. i hate mexicans, they steal a lot!!! this video is a joke but it is really true!!!

  • @bagelsandstuff Dumb.

  • @bagelsandstuff Come on, Mexicans don`t steal any more than anyone else; we`re all the same. Many of my best, most loyal friends have been of Mexican heritage! P.S. I`m Irish-American.

  • Not gonna lie, that was a clever stick-up :P

  • He was the voice of Simom Bar Sinister, Riff-Raff and Batty Man from the UNDERDOG series. He also voiced Odie Colonie, Itchy Bother, and Tooter Turtle on KING LEONARDO AND HIS SHORT SUBJECTS.

  • This was 1969 because the W.C. Frito came out in 1970. Mid 70 from my memory. They use to give away little erasers that were in the shape of W.C. Fields.

  • @sygo7g It definitley is Allen Swift's voice in this commercial. He died in April of last year. Swift never had the notoriety of other voice actors like Mel Blanc, Daws Butler and Don Messick.

  • Get the audio from this vid at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • I think that's Allen Swift doing Frito Bandito's voice.

  • OMG!! I started to look at these old commercials for some fun reminiscing and I see all this unbelievable "crapola" about stereotyping from "a--hole" people who just want to pretend to be upset because they "CAN". It's funny how "brave" people are when they say all these things in writing. These simple, old-school commercials weren't intended to be racist, and AREN'T racist, so stop being a whining liberal.

  • Racism is blown out of preportions these days. "wait man i don't like black licorice" "AWWW BECAUSE IT'S BLACK? GTFO" people need to calm the fuck down.

  • GOOD OLD AMERICAN "BLATANT RACISM" Mmmmmmm, mmmmm, mmmm SMELLS LIKE NASTLGIA!!!!!!!

  • I dont get why people keep talking about racism and stuff, isnt this just a clever little fritos commercial?

  • @vito445 It is. It's just that people don't have a sense of humor.

  • These commercials were fun this could not be done today to much PC!!

  • @newyorknewyork196 That's why TV is so boring nowadays. Everything Hollywood comes out with nowadays has to be politically correct to where freedom of speech has been completely destroyed.

  • @ridgerunner721601 Political correctness is over-rated.

  • @tjax92 You're the one calling me che you fucking idiot. What do you think that makes you look like? Now you want to make the argument of proper responses when you came at me with facetious remarks first and then began judging an entire race based on the actions of a sole individual? Well I'm guessing you're white, hitler was white, therefore, you must be a nazi.

  • @DeuceMP2 yeah whatever you say you fucking douchebag. I call you on your bullshit and make you look stupid now you're back tracking, stop making yourself look like the jackass you are.

  • @tjax92 Ok douche, yeah, I'm making a scene. You like it?

  • Fritos are now made of Monsanto's Genetically Modified corn.

  • I was 8 years old when this ad came out and I remember it vividly. I had latino friends and even at that age never thought this was portraying a race in a bad light. It was a harmless piece of fluff tv advertising. Things have gone way out of control these days.

This was 1969 and in 70 they replaced him with W.C. Frito a W.C. Fields parody. I guess fat drunks took offense to that.

  • @DA90027 What year was this commercial?

  • really?

  • Why do Mexicans rob so much?

  • @pfflyers1

    they are mexicans.

  • You whiners just need to read Mrob and Adjusting's comments and GET OVER YOUR STIGMA!! That was one of the best commercials ever...

  • RACIST.

  • I remember this as a kid! Love it! How ridiculous that people today find this to be racist...How dumb is that? What a classic commercial! (I too am Hispanic)

  • I'm Latina and can't be offended by something I am. And no I am not a bandito...lol!

  • @Adjusting Coconut alert....

  • I still have some pencil erasers of frito bandito that my older brothers had.

  • good stuff, good memories, fun ad

  • lol clever, not racist.

  • fotytree peepoles got thes Fritos with dem whada u thinc about that...lol

  • lol best commerical ever

  • I'm Mexican and I find this offensive.

  • @miricaro If I said I got laid last night, then that is okay right? That is offensive to me.

  • @miricaro Yeah, BUT ju fuck'n wetbakz R OOfendeded by Berrythin!!!!!!!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA

  • @WBWhaker1 Jur from EL SALVADOR???????ROFLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

  • @miricaro Well then which race would you prefer him to be? Give me a break

  • im addicted to original frito corn chips lol...i cant eat a sandwich or eat chili unless i have fritos!

  • ayi yi yi i am the frito bandito

  • whaa chu think of dat?

  • Everyones a little bit racist sometimes. Doesn't mean we go about commiting hate crimes. SO STOP BEING PC YA PUSSIeS :D

  • Mexicans always steal shit.

  • O.M.G could you just imagine if they had this ad campaign today. I know it would never happen. P.C has poisoned this whole nation in such a short span of time:(:(:(:(:( SAD

  • @welder541 It's Bullshit. Carlos Mencia and Dave Chapelle did this kinda shit all the time. It's just funny stuff. Now, if you say "kill the brown people"...well.....

  • Sad, young people who think they are authoritative, when they are actually uninformed...

This series of commercials was in fact taken off the airwaves - not because of racism or stereotypical portrayal, but because of a lawsuit brought against Frito Lay for copyright infringement by the owners of the character in the commercial, The Bandidos Motorcycle Club.

  • @hjshmuel I'm sorry but I had to laugh that anyone would believe the Bandidos even cared. FYI: The club would NEVER raise it's profile over something like this. The spot was one of the first to be pulled due to PC. The spot ran for years until a Hispanic politician & atty. tought it was a cash cow of a law suit. Get a bigger spoon if you're going to stir the pot.

  • @RangerAlways lol... the attorney/politician you refer to was maybe Gonzalo Barrientos? BTW, where were you in 1969?

  • not racist jeesh

  • lol I like this guy, not worrying about that politically correct bullshit

  • Ay ay ay yi I am the frito bandito!

  • Frito Bandito was the only reason I started eating fritos in the first place because growing up he was the only thing close to being hispanic...I hate all these people trying to be politically correct. It's just a character! As a latino I don't find it offensive in the least. What about the "Hamburglar"? It's not offensive because he's not ethnic? Reverse racism.

  • Excellent.

Those were the good 'ole days when most people were not sensitive and angered by everything that is PC today. If you don't have a sense of humor, get a life.

And by the way, I'm Hispanic.

  • @bond007collector actually it did get banned from tv back then

  • @bond007collector Isn't it ironic that in his song he says "the Frito Bandidito you must not offend"!!!!

  • @bond007collector seriously. why now is there a lot of political correctness crap. people aren't russian american, african american, mexican american, japanese american, we're all americans. we dont live in the old countries any more we are american citizens. ethnicities imply exclusivity and create more problems

  • @bond007collector sellout white wanna be

  • @bond007collector well then you're obviously an Uncle Tom Hispanic that has no idea of the racist and oppressive history of Latinos in America, especially the 1960s when this commercial was made. Thanks for making us all look bad (Yeah I'm Latino myself) you're just as bad as the Frito Bandito up there. Do you also wear a sombero? Cause thats what they thought at that time. In certain parts of the country they wouldnt let you sit at the lunch counter because you were Latino.

  • @bond007collector It wasn't a sensitive issue back in the "good 'ole days" because it was ok to stereotype nationalities. The asians were drawn with very slanted eyes and buck teeth. Blacks were drawn with over emphasized big lips. Hispanics were portrayed as dumb and always walking around with a sombrero with a thick accent. This is before civil rights laws began to take effect. Just like how slavery was "normal" in the 1800s.

  • @bond007collector viva la love

  • @bond007collector I'm Hispanic too! All you idiots who think having a Spanish accent is racist go F yourselves and grow up! Thats whats wrong with this country! Characters are PC and saying, black, brown and white are politcally incorrect! Thats just dumb! I'm a Mexian American...a.k.a American but I guess I racist for saying I'm an American!

  • @bond007collector I thought the bandito was cool. X(

  • @bond007collector

It is very interesting to read a post by a Hispanic poster who has such an objective point of view about such things! Glad to have met you! What do you think of the company's willingness to terminate this character in the seventies? And while I have your attention, what do you think of female activisits who would complain about the way pantyhose commercials were up until the eighties? Do you think it is a similar situation?

  • Oh for heavens sake. This is funny. Like Europeans DON'T make fun of Americans!!!!...Right...................

  • You have to remember WHO made these commercial in the "60s". Big time CEO's did'nt care what group of "minorties' they targeted just sale the shit, and line their pockets with money.

  • oh god lighten up people

  • stereotypes are so correct in there portayal.just look at the drug war going on right across our borders done by drug banditos.anyone who say different is a lying cocksucker.

  • and you americans fuel that by purchasing from those same "drug banditos". If there is no market, the trade would just halt. without revenue, the gangs (on both sides of the border) would lose out on their 'powerful friends', and eventually they'd be gobbled up by the biggest gang- the gov't.

but please, keep feeding the system...it likes ignorance most of all.

  • and who buys those drugs and provides them with weapons? the US fool!

  • At least there's some TRUTH in THIS commercial ...

    ... so ... let's hand over the Fritos! :-)

  • No, the problem is neither offending Mexicans nor American liberals.

The problem is that Fritos are junk food, filled with the kind of empty fat and calories that are making us obese and killing us.

Let the Frito Bandito take all the Fritos so we can sit in front of our TVs crunching celery and carrot sticks.

Just leave my beer alone, okay muchachos?

  • @starboymikey White liberals are very intolerant. Far more intolerant than a white conservative Archie Bunker-type.

  • A great ad campaign from the 60's.

  • Actually the reason why this was banned was not racism, it was banned due to the massacre at guadelupe, where there was suspection that the CIA helped the Mexican government ruthlessly kill hundreds of people in a small city in Mexico, one of the worse masacres ever, look at the pictures, a child's head was shot off. and the mexicans in the US at the time were going to march to capitol hill, over the subject, therefore, frito bandito was put away for a while

  • @Tomthestarhartnell Actually, factually, no, it wasn't banned, it was removed from television by a private lawsuit.. The suspicion that the C.I.A. (or was that "suspection"?) helped the Mexican government (which administration was that?) kill hundreds of people... Let me guess - about 18, reality TV shows and other "real" crap like wrestling, vampires and other "spiritual" shows when you aren't researching conspiracies and downloading music? My apologies, we have failed to educate our future.

  • @hjshmuel I dont think you know the english language. I wasnt researching the conspiracy, I knew about it, I was taught it, and BTW it was uncovered, the Mexican government did what they did because that city was too anti mexico at the time, (MEXICO WAS FACIST-LIKE AT THAT TIME AS WELL)

  • @Tomthestarhartnell What year was the Guadalupe Massacre?

  • Que tonto!

  • where did you get that is a proper way of spelling that??

  • And they thought the Taco Bell Chihuahua was racist!

  • @boardskins What's wrong with a Mexican accent???

  • Funny commercial. Too bad many of our newest guests can't understand a word of it.

  • I didn't know that.

  • how come the mexicans in the 60's could speak english and not now?

  • everytime you turn around now people are talking about race. When i was a kid in the 60's and 70's i was beat up by black kids all the time for my lunch money. I dd not grow up a biggot. why did it not affect me? I weighed 114 pounds in high school, I would get killed today with the way young boys are! They are so angry and big, what do they eat nowadays? I just cant believe that there is so much hate for each other today. Egg shells every where. Broken and peeling. Hurt feelings now and then.

  • Thank the government for taking the parents rights away telling people how they should raise their kids. Since their rights been taken away, kids murdering parents and others have skyrocketed. The things we hear and see kids do on the news was nearly unthinkable 20 years ago. Now the parents are runned by the kids. Dad's mighty leatherbelt needs to make a comeback. Kids need to feel pain on their ass so they will learn that what they do wrong could have major consequences.

  • I'm with you my friend ha ha.. There is nothing worst than a spoiled kid... we grow up very well, whats wrong with that.

  • Why are People offended by this?

Fritos with tabasco is SOOOOO gooddd.

  • the bandito was actually an undocumented character actor who was deported in mid 1970.

  • but i cant beleve that they put BANDITO insted of BANDIDO like it should be, they could look it up in the dictionary first jajaj?

  • bandido doesn't rhyme with frito.

  • No, they wanted the word Bandito to rhyme with Frito . That's why they spelled it that way

  • I am a mexican and this doesnt ofend me AT ALL, I think is funny. Please explain me why you americans confuse every thing with racisim.

I hear that Is moraly wrong to have a maid, why?

It is a disent job, people like it, if they are treated with respect, many dont even speak the lenguage, what job you think they will found¡? or you prefer they became hookers?

  • Because we Americans are pussies. We're even worse now, what with all the Emo bullshit going on.

  • I agree, not the least bit offended, and I thought it was funny.

  • I'm Mex-Am and the Frito Bandito commercial doesn't offend me. But I can maybe see how Hispanics in the day may have become frustrated. They may have said "we have no hispanics on TV" and TV execs may have said, "there's hispanics on TV, what about that Frito Bandito guy?"

  • I live in New Mexico. I never knew anything about the culture. I can understand why, especially during that era when people were fighting for civil rights, this ad is offensive.

Freedom of speech is a right that should not be abused.

I tend to embrace the culture here in Nuevo Mexico. I have acclimated into this culture, I did the whole "cultural immersion" thing.

Now, all I have to do is show respect by learning the language.

    viva la diversidad

  • Many Mexican-Americans found this racist . That's why they pulled it. Hispanics had every right to be mad.

  • Politacal correctness has gotten out of control and we forget that political correctness began on countries such as the USSR, Korea, etc....where if you didn't say things that agreed with the government it would be me with a negative result...so! That being said...embrace freedom of speech (and all our other freedoms) the good and the bad and let's not become like other politcally correct nations.

  • I agree with you completely people are too uptight and easy to anger people need to learn to calm the fuck down and learn to laugh a little

  • When people are laughing with you that 's one thing, when they are laughing AT you that's another. The fact is that stereotypes can breed prejudices, prejudices can breed discrimination and discrimination, hatred. It starts that easy. I read in a great book once where it said "If eating meat offends your brother, then don't eat meat." Not everyone gets uptight and angered, some get hurt and dismayed, and if your brother isn't laughing and you are, there's something wrong with that picture.

  • Too late bro! People are so afraid theyre going to offend someone, they dare not speak at all! They see racist ghosts everywhere!

  • It unbelievable how it got out of control !!

  • We all need to relax. Every race has a stereotype...Cletus (from the Simpsons), Speedy Gonzalez,etc... Stereotypes have a small amount of truth to them and we should be able to humor it and move on. The character doesn't mean every person from the Ozarks sleeps with their cousin, or every Mexican thinks like this character...however, there are small truths to it and luckily we in a country that promotes freedom of speech (for the most part)....continued on the next comment...

  • All of you racists need some education. I am shocked that people actually still think the way you do.

  • Great....first they steal our jobs, now they wanna steal our Fritos!

  • He sounds like George Carlin imitating Donald and Douglas a little.

  • Lol, nice

  • I agree jesxe69 you are right.

Funny but not good for or too the Lalin people.

  • This is rascist because it steriotypes Mexicans as being lying Bandits with a wierd mustache, but the people who are offended usually are only offended because they fit the negative steriotype. I am not offended by this in any way(I am Mexican) as a matter of fact I find it quite funny.

  • because it was 1967 and the time they7 were WAY different then...i was there,,,i know

  • Frito-Lay withdrew the Frito Bandito, and replaced him with a W.C. Fields lookalike,"W. C. Fritos". Shortly thereafter,a 90% Hispanic junior high school sent the company a petition with hundreds of signatures, stating that they would all stop buying Fritos if the Bandito didn't return. These kids were not offended by the Bandito, they identified with him...

  • This is far less offensive than the usual minute from Lou Dobbs or Rush Limbaugh. Come to think of it, now I know where those bozos must have gotten their opinions about Mexicans!

  • Most of those describe half the Americans who are legal citizens anyway. Don't be stupid enough to think it's only them. (I am white).

  • That's right. I rather vote for a guy who seemed like a normal person then a rich snob who could snap at any moment.

  • I love it when racists accuse Mexicans of 1) being lazy welfare bums, and 2) taking our jobs. Think about it.

  • There's lots of lazy people, Mexican or otherwise. The lazy illegals mooch on our welfare, the industrious ones are taking our jobs. Even the hard working illegals use social services, overtax our hospitals, schools, etc. Even one death or rape perpetrated by any illegal is an outrage. But I do like the Frito Bandito.

  • right because when an american citizen does it, it's ok.

  • dont hate, there is alot of hard working mexican familys not on welfare or illeagal.

  • That is a total lie.

  • I like how people get ofended by racism to different minorities, but if it pokes fun of white or what ever the racial majority amy be in different cases, its humorous. Just a lil irony for ya.

  • Comment removed

  • I remember these commercials as a kid and also getting the pencil eraser in the multi pacs of fritos. People are too sensitve to let this kinda thing bother them.

  • I can't understand the thin skin some people have. No one thought Mexicans were Frito Banditos or Chihuas made or ate TAcos for Taco Bell. Mexicans complain alot I think. Bald White guys named Mr. Clean don't bother me!

I also think it's in poor taste to mention any part of the U.S. as belonging to Mexico or giving it back when Mexico was robbed from Natives who were almost exterminated for their Gold. Everyone has something bad in their past. Quit throwing stones and get a Sense -o- Humor!

  • I think agree. I know that people have a right to get pissed about whaterver.....but why bother? They are just words....P.S. Bald is beautiful by the way.

  • exactly! i mean come on, why can't a company's mascot have character or a personality? might as well be a stick figure if people just complain and have them banned. right?

  • great commercial, very creative and effective.

  • HOLEY GUACAMOLE MAAN...

  • Actor Richardo Montalban was instrumental in forcing the Frito-Lay company to stop using the Firto Bandito as a pitchman....and was still able to keep his acting career without being black balled!

  • Probably because the Fritos kept leaving grease stains on all that rich Corinthian leather.

  • I liked these, always thought they were funny

  • This was the first of many comercials I saw with the Frito Bandito, who was in Frito's comercials for many years until too many Mexican-Americans complained about him.

    Ah Carumba!Was' the big deal?

  • sounds like pedro off of that one movie

  • Speedy wasn't bad, Slowpoke Rodriguez on the other hand...lol

  • ay yai yai-yeejus. pull the 2x4 outta yer arse and give me a break people, it's gotta be tiring being so self-important all the time, Frito bandito is funny, and it makes me want to buy that salty junk, so it must work.

  • Remember W.C. Fritos? I still have an eraser and poster!

  • I had about 5 erasers. :-)

  • Not politics-the 'bandito' was irresistable at the time- "..

    and here he still is..!

But as I sai,d there's no loony Tunes duck sent after him..but this is a BANDIDO..GRANGO DUck...(advance apologies to the gringos, which I am..) there fore AFFY you DO have aq RIGHT TO CATCH HIM, and HOPE FYOU WIN,m and watch out for that Speedy. Just, don't misjudge Speedy or Bandito unless they steal anything, Daffy LOL

  • I say it's time to bring back the Frito Bandito!!

  • you can't cus he's "politically incorrect" XD but if you can get rid of the protesters bring him back then XD

  • You gotta remember that in the 1960s Americans were still interested in western history and western stories. The resulting composites were many- and included "the bandit"- modeled after people like Tiburcio Vasquez. Vasquez was a real-life bandit that caused all kinds of havoc. Thankfully, fritos were banned in our house after this commercial went off the air. Not politics-the 'bandito' was irresistable at the time- parents just couldn't fight it! Later Frito ads didn't catch our interest.

  • Why make excuses? It's because stereotypes were accepted as funny back then. Had nothing to do with interest in western history.

  • Mexicans stealing? comitting drive bys? home invasions? say it aint so!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gotta go the local news is on!

  • so...basicly, they got rid of him, cause it basicly implied that mexicans steal?

  • I Theeenk I am about to be takenn off..for stealing Fritos and giving my guys a bad name...(just kidding. That's Mel Blanc, freed of Speedy Gonzales's fellow Hispanic's trials with Daffy at the time (1967), doing the Bandito's voice as wekll. Sure were a lot of THOSE..babas Louie, Beany's Careless.. Go Go Gomez from Dick Tracy..)

  • He looks a little like Blanc's 'Sai' character from Jack Benny.

  • This was the voice of GONZALO GONZALO who did voice over for the
