I remember riding a roomette with the light out, thru the Matapedia valley, on the westbound, when it still had the old Budd cars like here, but no English junkers yet. Sipping a glass of red wine. I rode from Campbellton to Montreal Central.
@OBSysteme If you want to see the Matepedia do a Eastern trip from Montreal around june 20/22 and get up around 4 am when light breaks and you will get the best scenery, have a camera handy!
@OBSysteme The Moncton Montreal trip will indeed leade you to Matapedia Valley during the night, but when you return, it'll actually be the morning =D
The green coaches the old nightstar set bought from the UK?
Wonderful clip btw, kinda puts things in perspective a bit, the UK grinds to a hault when there's snow the same depth as what's sticking to the loco's!
@Paraffinmeister they were excess MK4? cars built and were just sitting I think? Via bought them and refitted, insulated for Our Climate! Been bit of trouble with doors and steps! Small inside if You use to the Stainless Steel Coaches which are much wider and higher!
@drc35ca Agreed about the stainless steel coaches, they were by far the best I've ever traveled in! The nightstar set was from the same family as the MK4's although not quite the same, MK4's are HST (IC 225) trailer coaches, while the night star set were for sleeper services through the channel tunnel. I know they were sold to VIA after that fell through, just wondered if that was them?
@Paraffinmeister Yes. These "Renaissance" coaches are the ex-Nightstar coaches for Channel Tunnel sleeper services. As an aside, and as a mark of confidence in these coaches, VIA Rail now uses the seated Nighstar coaches on their premiere train, VIA 66 and 67 (Toronto-Montréal). I have found them to be pretty good, and even tried them in blizzard conditions and I noticed some new steps which a crew member told me makes the stock more reliable.
this is 1 awesome video man... 1st of all where is the track, train seems to be going on snow ... and also in fact of the weather the train is shining and in superb condition...
mmm not even close. The 1st 5 cars are HEP 2 cars and the rest are Alstom Nightstar cars made for use on sleeper services from the UK to Europe via the Channel Tunnel.
Uh, Traingeek. I hate to tell you this but the whole train is the ocean. Sometimes they have that combination and the chaleur don't run to bathurst. The chaleur is only for Quebec runs.
Uh, lifty, hate to tell you this but on February 2 the Chaleur stayed as part of the Ocean and went all the way to Halifax. If I remember correctly the Chaleur's engine wasn't working so they had no choice but to bring the train along.

The Chaleur had engine troubles and the decision was made to keep it with the Ocean to goto Halifax.
