@Ferretocious I have a himmy too, and you have to shave them in the late spring or they get too hot, especially if you live in a hot climate. My cat usually sleeps in my bed, but when the temp goes up she starts sleeping on the wood floor, even with the AC on. Also, they can develop matts on their hind legs and tummy and they won't let you groom them there. It doesn't hurt the cat, and trust me, they have a lot more spunk and energy after they get groomed then they do when they're too hot.
@mastrkate You don't HAVE to shave Persians and Himmies you just need to GROOM THEM! Why have a longhaired cat if you can't be bothered to do that? Persians/Himmies should be combed at least every other day all year long. My Persian has always been mat free. Shaving them does NOT cool them. Their fur insulates them from both heat and cold. I have a himalayan who has a lot of problems with matting now that she has gotten older. she has a lot of arthritis and doesnt like to be held down and brushed, so I have to get her shaved like that too, it doesnt mean that you dont take care of the cat, there are just a lot of cats whose dispositions don't allow being groomed and brushed constantly

I totally agree. While I don't shave my Himalayan, I do have to trim her due to hair matts. AND she's only 1/2 Himalayan and still has the problem. In hot weather, they are much more comfortable.

Oh yes I do! My Registered Himalayan cat is 17 years old and she has never had mats because she is groomed and brushed every single day. A "Lion's Cut" is for lazy owners that don't know how or want to take the time to brush their long hair cats the proper way. Buy an air conditioner for your cat if hot weather presents such a problem for the fur matting up - which is a ridiculous statement.

Thank you Runcornfox. It is so nice to finally hear from someone who loves a Himalayan enough to take the proper care of this precious breed - which includes grooming them. Anyone who owns a Himalayan cat knows just how gentle and loveable these cats are and all they ask is to be treated with respect and "adored" and loved in return. IMO - this includes grooming them every day to make sure they look as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside! my "soulmate".

I think this Lion Cut is an insult to the Himalayan breed and is indicative of a lazy owner. I have a 17 year old Himalayan who gets brushed everyday and I would never insult her with such a "haircut".
This is obv one of those wierd old lady cat owners who freak at the notion of cutting their himalayan cat's hair. Have you ever run into one of these wack jobs? I don't really like the lion cut... Actually... I don't like shaving my cats or trimming my cats' fur, period. But I mean, @ LadyThelma: still no reason to critisize someone for it...

I love lion cuts on Himis, it's so damn cute.
Plus, less hairballs, less fur all over the place and in Florida, they are cooler. I used to shave my pekinese too. My himis are not shaved right now, but I am saving up to get them done AND my mixed-breed as well.
My oldest himi, Kahlua acts like a kitten when he's shaved.

I have a himalayan who has a lot of problems with matting now that she has gotten older. she has a lot of arthritis and doesnt like to be held down and brushed, so I have to get her shaved like that too, it doesnt mean that you dont take care of the cat, there are just a lot of cats whose dispositions don't allow being groomed and brushed constantly

talk about over reacting! I give my long haired tabby 1 haircut a year in July. not only because his fur makes him too warm in summer but because he loves it!! He is more active and content,more playful and most importantly cooler!If you are stupid enough to believe that caring enough about your cat to pay120$ for a professional groomer is some sort of "abuse" then you are truly insane!Have you ever seen real animal abuse?I assure you..it is nothing similar!

Poor cat looks terrible, I brush my Blue Point Persian every day and if I miss one day it's not a problem, give him an extra brush. Lazy bastards shave their cats, it's like giving your daughter a skin-head because you can't be arsed to put it in pig-tails. Not funny.

you Dont know what the fuck your talking about LadyThelma!i brished and groomed my cat every single day but due to humid weather the fur still matted! A haircut was a huge relief to my cat, he has never been happier and active.get a clue!

I totally agree. While I don't shave my Himalayan, I do have to trim her due to hair matts. AND she's only 1/2 Himalayan and still has the problem. In hot weather, they are much more comfortable.

Oh yes I do! My Registered Himalayan cat is 17 years old and she has never had mats because she is groomed and brushed every single day. A "Lion's Cut" is for lazy owners that don't know how or want to take the time to brush their long hair cats the proper way. Buy an air conditioner for your cat if hot weather presents such a problem for the fur matting up - which is a ridiculous statement.

Thank you Runcornfox. It is so nice to finally hear from someone who loves a Himalayan enough to take the proper care of this precious breed - which includes grooming them. Anyone who owns a Himalayan cat knows just how gentle and loveable these cats are and all they ask is to be treated with respect and "adored" and loved in return. IMO - this includes grooming them every day to make sure they look as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside! my "soulmate".

I think this Lion Cut is an insult to the Himalayan breed and is indicative of a lazy owner. I have a 17 year old Himalayan who gets brushed everyday and I would never insult her with such a "haircut".

This is obv one of those wierd old lady cat owners who freak at the notion of cutting their himalayan cat's hair. Have you ever run into one of these wack jobs? It's a mental issue that some wierdo's who love cats have. MSG 2 MENTAL CAT OWNERS: YOU'RE the one who's attached to its hair, the cat doesn't care or would probably be MORE comfortable with a shave. You need to work these issues out most likely with professional help.

If you are too lazy to maintain a long haired cat, you shouldn't own one!!!!! My mental health is just fine - much better than yours and I'm not as lazy as you are either. You don't even deserve to own a Himalayan cat!
