@bugio22 strength of the cockpit tub is what really matters in single seaters, cars built up around carbon fibre core tub & appendages are not so important. some parts actually designed to disintegrate & absorb impact in crash whereas cockpit tub designed to hold. only really one problem remains with safety of open wheelers, the wheels themselves, if crash so violent they get loose they can kill drivers & spectators
considering that this was "only" a worldseries by renault race at maybe 270-280 kph the forces are that enormous, than you could realise and understand what the crash of Greg Moore meant with maybe 100 kph more.
wow, while flying he hit the pole with the front of the car..he was very lucky..a little more to the side and it could have been much worse..kinda like Jeff Krosnoffs crash..
Wow, is that guy Mark Webber´s son?? That´s a stupid move, if you want the inside line, go there earlier. This guy goes to the middle of the track, and then starts to move again when the guy behind is too near. He can only move once.
There is no argument for him to be banned. It wasn't malicious. A 'racing incident' as you would call it. I believe you are allowed to block someone trying to overtake you once, and then you have to move over to the racing line. He attempted his block and unfortunately Bonanomi was closer than he thought - not his fault. He has tiny mirrors and restricted head movement, on top of travelling at probably 150mph + with bumps and motion blur.
You should take his place and see if it was your fault!
c'mon man?! that straight is loooooong. his spotter MUST have told him he was being trailed closely. even after the trailing car pulls out and he makes an attempt to block the pass, he STILL keeps coming over until they make contact. don't make excuses for this guy. he knew he was going to get passed and he made the decsicion to make a stupid move.
You don't have a 'spotter'! There isn't someone reporting to you immediately the second someone tries to overtake you. Your race engineer will tell you statistics, and time gaps to cars, but that is it. The trailing car was in slipstream.. therefore probably travelling faster than the blocking car expected. He is allowed to block. It isn't a stupid move, he was just trying to stop him from getting alongside, as he is allowed to do. Maybe I'm wrong, but pretty sure everything there is legal.
OH! i didn't realize that they didn't have spotters over there. it seems they probably should. look man, i know racing dynamics, you don't have to explain them to me. i'm not trying to be rude, but i know. ALSO, i didn't realize that blocking was allowed or i wouldn't have said a word. if you allow blocking this is the kind of near death accident you'll get.
That has to be the most pathetic, desperate move I've ever seen in racing. I can see a strategic, well thought out and well executed block during a tight turn where a fight for the apex is involved, but on a straight?? What an asshole!
yo estaba!!!!!!!! estava al final de recta y vi como el coche negro estava intentando adelantar, se toca i sale volando, la reaccion del publico... ya os la podeis imaginar.
I agree with Onkelnopo. If Bonanomi had crashed into the column in another angle and not only with the front wheel it could have been very serious. They should think about placing a catch fence there!
I was right there, in front of where the accident happened, and believe me it all looked much more spectacular than in this video, that car really flew for meters, and even crached in mid-air with the column that holds the position and lap screen. It was incredible. But the driver was able to get out of the car by himself. Lucky that these cars have the security specifications of a Formula 1 of 2007
Thanks for this video. Bonanomi is one of my "racing" friends; I've talked with marco this morning, he's fine (only have faints sometimes). The car is destroyed. Aleshin is apologize for this crash and seem that he was a gearbox failure before the contact.
Wait.... Is that Mark Webber?

thats not true. Spotters exist on road tracks too. At least in NASCAR there are spotters even on Watkins Glen, Sonoma, Road America and Montreal too.
