Dimmu Borgir - The Insight and the Catharsis

Mustis, Astennu, and Nagash were the ones who contributed the most musically on this album - you can really hear the latter two's influences if you listen to the second album of their other band, Carpe Tenebrum.

Sadly, all three musicians left, and what are we left with? Abrahadabra - pretty much a thrown-together mess of whatever Galder didn't save for his (currently better) project, Old Man's Child.

I love how people bitch about Mustis and Vortex's departures. Look, it was clearly stated in Dimmu's keynote about the other band members departure WHY they were fired. @NocturneKing - It was not a mistake, in fact they did a good thing by dismissing them. They were using vortex too much anyways. Thats probably why the music ended up changing so much. They were not even part of the original band so fuck them anyways. As long as it remains Shagrath and Silenoz its the real Dimmu. And if you can say new dimmu sucks, then im entitled to ask where some of your albums are for comparison?

I dont think the new album is the greatest cd, but I wouldnt mind listening to it in the background either. I believe since the band has now been limited to Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder that their new upcoming albums might be worth holding your breath. Galder is pretty brilliant, aded the other two as well, they might create some heavy stuff.

Call me a rare breed, but I tend to think most of everything Dimmu made is good (besides DCA). Mustis was decent, but I still prefer Stian Aarstad's playing (even if he ripped people off). Vortex's loss will be much harder to overcome, as he probably has the best clean vocals in extreme metal. As to the new album, I definitely hope it will come out more like PEM than DCA. Though my favorite Dimmu album was For All Tid, I know they won't go that way. I just hope they keep their quality up.
