  • It is hard to believe that the Japanese bomb damage assessment could be so terrible, as described at 1:30. I mean, they weren't just a little bit off; those BDA reports were complete fantasy.

  • I love it when MacArthur walks ashore! Hell yeah!

  • @Mopar21277,

Funny story about that. MacArthur wasn't supposed to walk ashore like that. He was supposed to walk ashore dry via temporary unloading pier but the 'Beachmaster' in charge of the beach ordered the boat carrying MacArthur away as unloading supplies/troops had highest priority.

Hence, MacArthur wasn't quite happy when he did walk ashore at that moment...

not true but i read it somewhere...

  • Destroyer and Escorts of Taffy 3 takes a beating but turns back a battleship surface force. Navy's finest hour.

  • The USS Johnston and its CMDR Evans, attacks are probably the bravest thing I have ever read about in the WW2 Pacific

  • CMDR turned towards the enemy ships without any orders. He knew by instinct as soon as he became aware of the enemy that he had to attack as soon as possible to protect the CVEs.
