@LASTG0AT American pickups superior to Japanese by any means. H2 superior off-road then anything Japanese of the same class. Rubicon will easily outperform any Japs 4x4. Jeep is actually produced in Europe under license. While Japanese cars on average more reliable their reliability seriously overblown. Not to mention that they are - tin can in accidents.

I always HATED the H2 ever since I first laid eyes on the monstrosity. It was in the concept car show in 2000. I was pissed simply because it tainted the name of good US military-engineering, a strait rear axle, and I thought it was ugly as hell. Everyone disagreed with me when they first came on the market 2 years later. The people loved them. After a while the environmentalists started hating it too. Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Before the H2, Hummvees were cool.

the Range Rover has just about as much off-road capability as an H2 or better. the LR3, Range Rover, and the Defender are all in the top of it's class in off-road.

It broke because the wheels suddenly caught traction and pulled forward with enough force to shatter the worthless IFS steering linkage. The IFS on the Tahoe, er...H2, is barely adequate for street use. It was never intended to be used offroad. To be fair, the only IFS really fit for real off-road use is the system on the HMMWV.
And yes, this could have happened to other lighter duty axles (D30, D35), but solid axles in general have MUCH stronger tierods and steering components than IFS.
Independant Front Suspension. Means that the two wheel mounting surfaces move independant of eachother unlike a solid axle where theres a housing that both wheels mount to like this: )---o-( GM decided to put IFS in even their 1 ton pickups. Its a smoother ride but alot weaker (pansies!). Shows GM's priorities compared to dodge and ford who still use solid axles under 3/4 and 1 ton pickups so that they can do real work!
Not really the Hummers fault. That would have screwed up most 4x4's. Not trying to defend the Hummer but it could of happened to a Ford, Jeep or whatever.

Don't know much bout this car but have seen a tv special about offroad cars and this thing was dead last on every single event. Every Japaneese SUV claiming to have some off road skills was destroying this H2. But the story is much different with H1. GM built this car to rip off some simpleminded people. Only grill is similar beetween H2 and H1 nothing else.

@LASTG0AT American pickups superior to Japanese by any means. H2 superior off-road then anything Japanese of the same class. Rubicon will easily outperform any Japs 4x4. Jeep is actually produced in Europe under license. While Japanese cars on average more reliable their reliability seriously overblown. Not to mention that they are - tin can in accidents.
I'm not H2 owner and would never buy one but you've got to have mind of 12 years old to believe in bumper stickers. Pathetic.

funny, i have went over these kind of rocks in my old stock 87 bronco II. i did this kinda stuff with my bronco back in 07...so it was already 20 years old, had 115,000 miles on it and never broke anything it couldnt limp it self out of the trail without.

I always HATED the H2 ever since I first laid eyes on the monstrosity. It was in the concept car show in 2000. I was pissed simply because it tainted the name of good US military-engineering, a strait rear axle, and I thought it was ugly as hell. Everyone disagreed with me when they first came on the market 2 years later. The people loved them. After a while the environmentalists started hating it too. Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Before the H2, Hummvees were cool.

Dude, READ, Approach of 42 departure 38, nothing commercial comes close, H2 rates inumber one. Rear is a 3500 frame, front is a 2500 frame, welded together, reinforced. May I suggest Hummer H2 by John Lamm, this is the toughest off road stock vehicle made, in the USA, by American General, GM did not make truck. 116 inch wheelbase Tahoe, 122 H2, do some fancy book learning, this is American Pride Made 7-8 years ago and still today in Indiana. H1 sold to civilians much diff than Humvee.

Honestly I've never seen a Jeep break like that in these conditions either. Even the ones that just had Dana 35s could handle that fine. Just goes to show what happens when an SUV is designed for city driving first with offroading as an afterthought. They aren't all bad though. My friends hummer can take 9 soccer moms to the mall IN THE RAIN for mochalatechinos while only getting stuck twice! One of those didn't count though. He got high-centered on one of the fat chicks hummers attract.

It broke because the wheels suddenly caught traction and pulled forward with enough force to shatter the worthless IFS steering linkage. The IFS on the Tahoe, er...H2, is barely adequate for street use. It was never intended to be used offroad. To be fair, the only IFS really fit for real off-road use is the system on the HMMWV.
And yes, this could have happened to other lighter duty axles (D30, D35), but solid axles in general have MUCH stronger tierods and steering components than IFS.

Independant Front Suspension. Means that the two wheel mounting surfaces move independant of eachother unlike a solid axle where theres a housing that both wheels mount to like this: )---o-( GM decided to put IFS in even their 1 ton pickups. Its a smoother ride but alot weaker (pansies!). Shows GM's priorities compared to dodge and ford who still use solid axles under 3/4 and 1 ton pickups so that they can do real work!
