  • WARNING ! Veg Oil will Kill a Common Rail Diesel Engine ! Stick with the Simple Diesel engine like the 1.7D Isuzu found in most older Vauxhall's or the 2.5 Ford Diesel found in most Transit's!

  • thanks so much for doing this x x

  • Brilliant solution with the vacuum cleaner bags! I have just arranged for some pick up of cooking oil from the restaurants nearby. Luckily, nobody was there before me to claim their used oil :) I will try this on my old Toyota Landcruiser that I bought this spring with this in mind; to be able to drive much cheaper, and more environmentally friendly! Fingers crossed -but they say an old diesel engine can run on a lot of different stuff.. I've so far tried it with ATF automatic transmission fluid

  • Hey I got a question! :-)

At the moment, I've got a Fiat Punto with a Petrol Engine. Is is worth selling it and buying a diesel car?

And if so, what engine works best with the vegetable oil?

    Regards

    :)

  • you are on the honor system???haha how would it be found out that you used more than that amount allotted or that you are even using any at all. movement along the surface of the planet is nobody's concern or taxable.

  • @circusboy90210

    I like you philosophy.

Protect yourself from inconvenient interruptions and enforced assumptions by keeping a record in the vehicle, showing how little you use.

    And check out TPUC.org

  • @acerwizard I don't keep a record of how much crude diesel I use. I never have understood why untaxed diesel has a die in it. die cost money & biodiesel looks like taxed diesel. I'm still very paranoid about using svo.

  • Hay buddy, im going to give this a shot on my 97 merc E300 TD, 200k miles on it odd, she's the common rail diesel system, is there anything I should watch out for? Or is it straight forward enough? Im a novice mechanic, I can strip that engine to the ground and rebuild it, so dont hold back on the tech terms :-) If this works I plan to do the same with my 1.9D van. Your vid is the best and simplest one iv seen to date, cheers for your contribution to the end of fossil fuels mate!! Mr. G. Ireland

  • Thx for the info I have just bought an old wooden boat with a bmc1500 going to do this as fuel is about the only cost I have due to running my engine to generate electricity so this will be helpfull I intend to be almost completely self sufficient within a year

  • Particularly with a low-rev generator application;

Avoid lacquering the cylinders and clogging injectors with occasional bouts of 'diesel plus injector cleaner'......I would do at least 20L as a break after every 200L of Veg oil.

If it is possible to rev the engine up for a while on the cleaning mixture, so much the better.

My car has a simple starter tank (diesel) that I put 'redex' or similar in once in a while.

  • @acerwizard thx for the advice my friend i will let you know how i get on ,hope you sre well n stuff namaste

  • @acerwizard Do you have a heat exchanger plugged in the cooling system of the engine to heat the oils and thin them?

  • thanks for your reply my friend. i now think i will stick to diesel and put redex in with it. that helps the polution. i know it costs more but its better for my engine as well as the enviroment.

  • Jubycell.

Nice, simple, efficient Hyrogen-on-demand, reduces emmissions better than redex will.

    Lowers fuel consumption too.

I do not have it yet, but I spoke to the chap. £350 for a Xantia 1.9td....fitted.

Best price I have found for this kind of thing.

    Devon, GB-based.

  • hello acerwizard. great vid. did you see top gear where they mixed used veg oil with white spirit. 1ltr oil and 30ml white spirit , what is your oppinion on this, would this help for cold start. also i have a citreon picasso 1.6 HDI. could i put oil in this car.

  • I have a dodge 2500 diesel. I have the 2 tank system. Some have done it with one tank but I thinkn they will be stranded in cold weather. Keep the oil dewatered and filtered, it works.

  • HDI....common rail. Not a good idea. A small blend may be possible, but may confuse the sensors, leading to rev-limitation or worse.

Some folks claim to run common-rail unmodified...I would expect to kill the engine within a year. Elsbett do a common-rail conversion. I saw one in a VW. Electronics/heater/filter/pump.

White spirit...no...just add a bit of diesel. White spirit attracts the duty-flies.

  • Vacuum cleaner bags is a great idea.

  • Will it ( wvo) work on a 4cylinder 2.5 crdi (common rail direct injection) diesel engine ? tnx

  • No, not without conversion

  • can you tell me what kind of conversion would i need? how ? tnx i really would appreciate it !

  • see elsbett conversions

  • I don't think that you have Shell Oil worried just yet, but never the less, a well thought out system and a great explanatory movie clip. Thanks!

I like it and rated it 5 Stars.

  • Thanks Shanny, couldn't have made high nor low of it without you :)

  • watched both your video's - very simple system & well worth watching. As you live in uk i'd be interested to know what your set up is in your vehicle - 2 tank?, preheated etc..

    Thanks for posting

  • Thanks Barney,

1)Citroen 1.9td, bosch pump engine mounted fuel filter as standard, modified with..

    Super-simple Twin tank system:

Main tank vegoil(max100%)plus biodiesel/diesel (up2 100%ok but norm <50%),plus Unleaded(<5%when subzero expected..the fuel must remain liquid. Home-made 24"copper/heating hose heat exchr. aft. filter, water parallel circuit taken 2 T pieces from cabheater hoses...brings fuel to near engine temp. This htr not essential but higher load on pump/worse burn without it.

  • 2)Aux (starting/stopping)tank 25L Diesel/bildiesel in boot;8mm rpvc hose 2 on/off 1/4 turn by seat; hose thru bulkhead/floor;'disposable' filter,connects just b4 pump with t-piece.

    OPERATION

I use the auxtank to purge (30s)vegoil, leave pump/injectrs ready for cold start. Turn off after stop engine. Cold start, turn aux tank on, start engine, wean off over 1 min. Start off gently, allow little aux if struggling.

Aux tank fuel used at 10x rate of main as no return. use sparingly, 500ml/cycle.

  • 3)works because diesel flows easier to pump, so drawn preferentially whaen available. Warm days I easy get away with 15 secs aux on tick-over, winter better give it 30s..listen for subtle change in engine. 'Purge' diesel goes to main veg tank..fine. This basic system can be made for less than £20 using only standard hardware parts. It is the least intervention level for using vegoil i would recc..as it avoids the pump/injectors trying to start on, well, slush. Suits temperate climes like devon.

  • I use 2-layer henry hoover bags (1 micron)and other 1-micron bigger bags by electrolux.

This system uses 6 bags and each will process 100L plus if you use very fine cloth on the pre-filter. Clogging is normally due to cold temp.....the oil waxes in the bag at night..or water!

I have abandoned this system in favour of the settling/filtering version, which is also resistant to water and the filter can never overflow. One bag on this system lasts 200L or more because the fuel is already settled.
