  • Sir, I've been thinking about playing the drums recently, I've been playing guitar for a few years, but I really believe I have my mind set on it now that I want to start, you are a true inspiration for any kind of musician because I can see your drive and passion for the drums, I really hope me starting the drums that some day I can be half as good as you, you are truely great and incredible musician, much love my friend and stay metal.

  • 8 dslk hate greek power

  • 2:02 Rosanna

  • Did he just play a roll on the hi hat with his foot at 5:35? =O

  • 2:02 Toto´s Rosanna Half Time Shuffle ;)

  • i want that kit

  • i hatehow people say sabian sucks! thats most of my cybals!

  • George, ur crazy

  • i heard laying fire upon apep in there haha

  • @pnutskater96 hahaha you're right! i heard that, hittite, and a lil bit of Kafir xD good pick up man!

  • Mr. kollias should not have shifter to pearl, Gabriel was a lot better in respect to sound!

  • im really surprised he doesnt use a lower cut shoe seeing how he swivels his ankles so much.

  • Does George use tama iron cobra beaters

  • @PearLDrummeR1871 He does indeed; Axis Longboards with Iron Cobra Felt Beaters.

  • @KreptiaX thanks man now im gunna go get some tama iron cobra beaters

  • how can 7 people not like this. they have no soul.

  • So smooth!, kollias is a God!, a greek God!.

  • 3:22 - Aeons of Burning Galaxies?

  • @KreptiaX yep

  • @Dieterbe I knew it!

  • @KreptiaX No, Laying fire upon Apep ;)

  • I seriously doubt that drumming can get any better than this.. or that there's anything George can't do..

  • the snare head is an emperor x?

  • pretty sick

  • how does he tune his snare? i cant get that kind of sound out of my snare :(

  • @JehutyFIN release the clutch?

  • @1337mikev ye, ive tried, not working, my snare is playing way tho long, and its not that nice "clong" he has :D or then hes just using rimshots alot...

  • @1337mikev and you can see there around 1:35 when he puts his snares back "on", so thats the sound im talking about i wanna get out of my snare :D

  • He is neither against or for triggers. Looking at all of his clinics, he prefers using microphones but he still has to use triggers to pick up the initial hit on the kicks, otherwise how would you hear them in a live situation?

  • This makes me want to quit playing and burn my set.

but it's really inspiring too :P

  • Still my fav drumming vid :)

  • this is amazing... i wonder if i'll ever be half as good.

  • stop wondering start practicing! that what we all need to do

  • @Joeskateapool i know thee secret to his double bass......he always weres jordand or nikes, its all in the shoes lol

  • @pnutskater96 You know it is actually partly down to your trainers. I found playing in my nike dunks gives me comfort.

  • @pareshmandalia yeah comfort, but it wont affect your speed!

    george says this alot

  • @pnutskater96 I bet he could still play 16ths at 280 barefoot.

  • @DissYraiN oh ya it may take him alittle while while toget used to it but bet he could to

  • @pnutskater96 I prefer to play in shoes with solid arch support and cushion such as fitted running shoes, Lakai skater shoes, or basketball shoes. The muscels in my feet that control my toes get tired with little or no arch support. Good shoes allow the more powerful muscels in your legs to do the work.

  • Sweet Nike's. But nice playing. You got a superior sound out of that kit. I wish that the kick was triggered on the quicker stuff though.

  • 6:37 intense, Mind blowing shit George. Hails

  • A perfect role model to all kinds of drummers! Groove, speed, style. Perfect.

  • this video is a perfect example of how triggers are NEEDED in death metal. or live period for that matter. the difference of with/without is crazy

  • FUCK!! he inspires me so much, if i could play this well, its all i would do all day. Just play... it just sounds so good. I mean.. i fucking dream of being able to play this... it feels awsome having that much speed coming from you lol

  • you can only achieve this by playing all day, you can't be like, i wait until i'm fast and then i will play all day long xD

  • Is it a screw up? Or is it a screw up that he did on purpose to throw off all of the people that think he is an alien. Aliens are supposed to be able to read minds. So if he really is an alien, then he will be able to know that some people think he is an alien. So he probably screwed up on purpose just to throw people off.

  • Best comment.

  • Thank you! Hey man, btw, I noticed that your user name has the word Axis in it. Do you use axis pedals? If so, do you like them? I want some so bad, I just don't want to spend the money.

  • Yes I use Axis pedals. And I'm in love with them. I mean yea they are some what expensive, not as expensive as the Trick or Demon Drive but your paying not only for an amazing pedal. But there customer serves is the best. In my opinion they are still to this day better than the newer products pearl has been putting out for last 8-10 years. So if you get the money get them. If you can try them out first.

  • Yea, I've heard from everyone that they are great. Yea, I wish I could try them out. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone around here that has them. Maybe one day I will get some though. Thanks man.

  • dude i tried out some axis longboards that were setup at guitar center the other day...now i feel that $600 is cheap for those pedals, there the greatest ive ever used

  • Really! Yea, I've heard from everyone that I've talked to that they are about the best pedals out there. I've almost bought some before but I just hate spending that much money. If I didn't have a car payment, house payment, etc., then I then I definitely would get some. I'm still thinking about getting some one day though. Thanks man.

  • Pff..

the new pearl demon drive pedals are waaaay better, in my oppinion, i demo'ed a pair at the MothersMusic store in Edmonton and compared to the Axis Longboards the extra $100 is worth it especially if your already paying 600+ for a pair of pedals, meh FFT

  • @MetalGuitarist99 nah man i tried out the deamon drives, they're good...but nowhere near the value, they're too heavy and bulky...the AX-Ls are light and adjustable to every degree

  • @hellraizr666 well, i guess i am kind of a pearl guy so i am inclined toward their products. i thought about buying axis pedals for a while but i am now set on demondrives

  • axis slay, just because they arent pearl doesnt make them worse. demon drives are trying to compete with axis. they wont win. and the beaters are terrible on the demon drives

  • @Joeskateapool

yup!! True to all that!!! The only pedals that stand a chance against Axis are the Tricks

  • Oh my lord!!

    you make it look easy!

  • How come we never see this man screw up? hint- he's an alien... the powers that be took the greatest traits from every awesome drummer you can think of and created... KOLLIAS!!!!!!!!!

  • no he is in fact human...there is a video of him making a mistake

  • show me XD

  • ill be happy with my drumming when i can do this. it'l take me about 20 years, but damnit it'l be fun

  • 5:15 !!!

  • es un maestro, que bien tooca este tipo, aguante nile y george

  • Guys, I don't want to break your ideas but I think George uses triggers (I don't say ALWAYS !) but for extreme metal it's kind of mandatory to record bass drum clean. Same for Derek Roddy who explained in a video in studio when recording for "I Monarch" (as I can remember) he placed the trigger on the perpendicular axle of the beater. And sometimes he doesn't use it, as in some videos, when he specifies "NO triggers"...

  • who cares! triggers are great! lol

  • I didn't say it's not. It's more about how they use it which is important ! ;)

  • what the fucks wrong with triggers? they dont make you pedal faster! they just enhance the sound of your bass drum(s) and make the strokes more even. nothing wrong with triggers

  • I didn't say something is wrong mike, I just told the same as you did. I don't have anything against triggers as long as they're not used to cheat the speed (what George and Derek don't do for instance, that's why I love them also, no cheat, just technic !).

  • I even know some drummers who cant even drum with triggers since u can hear every mistake u make. To play with triggers u need flawless flow with your feet.

  • oh ok. fair fair. i misread it haha

  • triggers make it so you can barely tap the head of the drum and still get a full kick sound.

it's possible to play incredibly fast speeds that would be inaudible without triggers.

  • 3:25

    Fuck yeah

    Aeons of Burning Galaxies!

  • 6:38

    Fuck Yeah

    Pattern Of fear!

    ^^

  • For weeks I've been trying to get my toms to sound good together when I roll out on them. I could get them to sound good by themselves but I was not happy with them in unison. After watching this video and hearing your toms together I was able to tune my toms to my liking. Thank you George!

  • I dont know if its my speakers, but he should've used triggers on this one, I can't really tell the bass strokes apart from eachother.

  • Christfuck, George is a fucking monster. If I could drum half as good as him I'd be happy.

  • Hahaha am 75% there

  • I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. Haha well I suppose it's a good thing I'm a bass player and not a drummer. Drums are fun as hell, I just lack the foot speed and endurance.

  • Its not that hard if you're obssesed into drums =0

  • Yeah, I have fun playing but I've never really been obsessed with drums. It's always been more of a "well I can play this song without butchering it to badly so let's play that" sort of thing with me. My skill level is pretty much to where I can play Iron Maiden songs perfectly but I can't even touch thrash or death metal haha. Bass has always been my main calling.

  • Well man you gotta get into it...Practice hand movility so you could get the whole fell and that way you could play faster...Look at me..I used to think that i would never be able to play Lamb Of God or Slipknot stuff and look man now am playing shit like JOb For A Cowboy and The Faceless...Its all about practice man

  • Damnator117, I definitely agree with you, practice is the key, but there are 2 things to consider: - is your practice efficient (the exercices you do and the frequency you do it ) and also - how is your body experiencing work-out ? I mean, some people get muscles quickly, some slowly etc. so I guess some people could hardly reach George's speed level even with decades of work... Anyway, tonight I'm gonna sweat again !!!

  • hehe I play bass as well and let's just say my drummer and I are in a constant fight because they are just too much fun to play.

  • roddy used triggers for quite a while, but has actually come out and said he's trying not to use triggers anymore, hes focusing on generating more power in his drumming. george DOES still use triggers, but in this video the sound youre hearing is a natural bass drum. its still pretty loud considering the tempo hes playing. but it would be a lot louder if he had his triggers on.

  • it sounds like hes hitting a timbale at 3:27-3:30

  • he's using triggers nodoubt

  • no he does not use triggers, derek roddy uses triggers not george

  • ofc he does lol

  • George Kollias is using triggers but not in this video...Derek Roddy doesn't use triggers and you can tell by the sound of the bass drum...and it's not bad to use triggers because at high tempos you can't hear each hit on bass drum when playing with a band...

  • @Damirdrummer he turns on the triggers at a certain point in this vid

  • @Damirdrummer I've never seen Kollias use triggers. His vids clearly show his feet. Watch Aeons of burning galaxies.

  • @ThunderBullitt Yeah but his feet don't produce the sound his drums do...So it's just simple as this...Triggers in most cases(unless dynamics are on) produce same sound every hit,and at higher tempos you can hear every hit...unlike ordinary bass drum sound where you can't hear every hit and bass drum in most cases sounds like wrooooom and you can hear dynamics in every hit....And most of all George said himself that he is using triggers and that you can't play higher tempos without them...

  • And i totally agree with him...Triggers are not cheating...Stop thinking that...It's just matter of taste...I would get them because i like the sound but i would combine them with mics so you can hear drums but also you can hear every hit...:) and combination sounds awesome...

  • @Damirdrummer and sorry for writing this long post but just to add that with triggers it's much harder to play...Because you can hear everything, every missed hit every error in playing...And if you want to boost your precision in playing, triggers are way to go...:)

  • @Damirdrummer roddy uses triggers but only at md fest or when he was with hate eternal

  • @Damirdrummer ur like the only one that ive seen on youtube that really get the meaning of triggers!! hope!

  • @Pearlbrk hehe thanks.I personally think that everyone cold get meaning of triggers if they wanted to.It's just prejudice.Because everyone around is talking how triggers are cheating.

The funniest post i have read so far is "if triggers are cheating why do guitarists use pick-ups?"...:D

  • @Damirdrummer i think some drummers want to say people who use triggers are cheating cus they arnt skilled nough to drum like them. but thats what i think^^

haha youtube is WFWS(Worlds funniest web site). so many lol peoples:p

  • @Pearlbrk I agree with you on that one...:D

  • that is totally wrong man i remember at one of his clinic videos he says he uses triggers and you can tell he uses them and pretty much every death metal drummer uses them because you can hear every bass drum stroke with them and every stroke with any drum piece at that matter simply because when your doing blast beats you need to be able to hear those strokes

  • Yes he does. But not in this video. I think this sounds so much better.

  • i like the way how he use his right hand on hats

  • The best drummer ever

  • EVER SINCE HES BEEN THE CHAAAAAMP!!!!

  • One of the best sounding kits in the world...

  • holy fuck

  • If you watch from about 8:15 you really can see and hear how fast he is in his hands, without messing it up at all. Just perfect all the way. YOU ARE MY GOD, GEORGE KOLLIAS

  • It´s OMG all the time in this video

  • OMG xD 8:54

  • 8:35 GODLIKE

  • invest in some triggers

  • only losers rely heavily on triggers

  • Someones jealous.

  • how so? he was commenting because Kollias ISNT using triggers and I made the comment that only losers rely heavily on them.

  • How do you know he isn't using triggers. If I'm not mistaken he is using triggers just like he always does on all of his videos.

  • @silasjones04

he isn't using triggers in this video... and if you must know, Kollias is against using triggers

  • @FutileExistence Really? Hmm... Thats weird because if you will look on George's profile page, you will notice on the left side under electronics it says AXIS E-KIT KICKER TRIGGERS! Are you sure he is against triggers or do you even know what you are talking about?

  • @silasjones04

Look up some of his videos before you talk. "George Kollias on triggers"

I know he uses triggers, but only when playing live and recording.

he is against using triggers for cheating purposes...

  • @FutileExistence What do you mean, for cheating purposes? In no way does triggers make you a better drummer. All triggers do is make your drums sound like you want them to sound.... Not make you better.

  • @silasjones04

I know that, cheating doesn't make you better either...

but the fact that one can have the sound of a full powered hit just by tapping the bass drums.

  • @FutileExistence Yea, I agree with you there. I can't stand drummers that just barely tap the bass drum. I believe in have plenty of power. But if you are playing live, then you might as well have a trigger system. You don't have to deal with excess overtones, you can get the perfect sound you are looking for, and you can get the volume that you need at the same time. As far as the sound goes, it is kind of like cheating because your not really hearing your set, your hearing the triggers.

  • @silasjones04

Yeah... Kollias believes in having power in every stroke.

  • Wow your stupid. he uses triggers ALWAYS with nile. He never plays live without them.

  • and he doesnt even use the triggers to modify the amount of beats he just uses them to get the best sound he can

  • And because there would be no way yoou could hear his kicks live without them. He has to cut through the guitars. haha

  • wooouu que buen solo no es solamente virtuosismo buen fraseo buenas ideas buen groove y manejo de intencion exelente

  • clean fast nice and sexy *O*

  • You sure do love Sabian. I love Paiste. :D

  • I don't suppose because he's endorsed by Sabian? :P

  • did he throw in a part from Aeons?

  • I heard it too

  • Double Bass At 3:50 Very Nice

  • fuckin awesome!!

  • Am sure your great, great, great, great grandad was a Spartan

  • nah man. his great great great great grandfather was a greek god

  • Fuck yes mayn

  • the beat at 6:40 is awesome

  • Yeah It Is =)

  • Fucken technical as fuck ha

  • Could anyone help me to tune my bass drum to a nice low metal-like sound. Kinda like he has. Send private message/comment on my profile. Thanks.

  • you gotta get mics first

    then ur good 2 go!

  • he's uses triggers

  • There's not a single trigger on that set

  • fuckin awesome beats dude

  • what kind of high hat does he have, love the sound of it

  • looks like a sabian hhx

  • Good but mostly boring

  • if you find this boring you dont have any concept of this

  • yes I do have

don't get me wrong many drummers does this kinds of jams

I just like of jams with more playing than messing around

  • then thats not really a jam now is it, a jam isnt structured...its just playin around the kit makin kick ass beats

  • that's right, it should be rather some kind of improvised solo than a Jam

  • ya cause im pretty sure this is right after george got his pearl kit...and he was dialing in the sound and just messin around

  • I agree

  • what i like most about him is that he doesnt always do blast beats

  • yeah i know...tom dimentions like crazy

  • ALL THE SUDDEN HE CHANGED HIS PANTS

  • INDEED! a wizard

  • yeah man blast beats are impressive but they shouldnt be the only thing played

  • Oh, it was a different clip. He had to change his pants because playing so fast made him soil himself.

  • he's inhuman i mean it had to have taken years to get that good

  • this is completly sad ut did any one else catch the edit around 2.17 doesnt effect anything but its has been editted all the same lol fuckin awesome drummer tho

  • his bass drum technique is fucking awesome

  • The swivel?

  • George kollias the only man ever born with a pair of drum sticks in his hands, and thoses feet!, George i bow to you my friend.

  • Dude tha's what am sayin' ....That dude is fuck'n ARIES greek god ov war!!!!

  • are these your new pearl kit or your old one?

  • Probably the old one, since the clip is 1,5 years old.

  • jesus

  • 4:46 roll is awesome

  • OMG I love George! he can do whatever he wants with the drums!

  • 2:02 is the best....

  • the blue drape or whatever the shit it is plus that light make such a cool atmosphere. sets you up for some pretty sick underwater metal.

  • this the type of drummer everybody want be!!

  • btw, id give just about anything for a kit like that

  • i wish he would incorporate more of this awesome creativity into his records. hes a sick drummer but a lot of his playing in his music sounds mostly the same to me. i guess its kinda hard to do that in death metal but it would still be awesome.

  • He simply does what music calls for :). He can't put much more creativity in such a brutal music. But you have to listen carefully. He's amazingly creative even for Nile. Hear The Essential Salts' chorus evolution. Firstly simple one two Snare, among double bass 16th and then - left snare blast combined with one two three snare with right hand :). For me that's brilliant...
