Though I grew up in Miami FL, I was born in Northfield MN. In 1981, my uncle invited me to fly up to watch the state tournament. Needless to say, it was out of this world. The packed arena, the rabid fans, the level of play and the incredible energy are things I will never forget. The big star in that tournament was Phil Housley who was so good that even a hockey neophyte from Florida could see how special his talent was. I wish I could have played this game!!
Whoever has played shattuck will agree that there sick but I'm not even from Minnesota but if shattuck played Eden prairie or like Edina I don't know if they are still good I think they would lose or it would be a sick game to watch
For a hockey player at the HS age, there is nothing more glamorous than playing in the Minnesota High School League. Why play midgets in front of an empty arena? Look at Shattuck, they won the National title in front of 200 fans? No one cares, nice way to waste you efforts on a hockey league that means nothing. Congrats to the players that stay in HS and understand something about TEAM and COMMUNITY and would rather play infront of thousands of fans even during regular season games.
@hockeyCK27 Yes, Shattucks is good, that wasn't my argument, but if you wanna talk talent, take the best 20 players from MN high school teams and they would route Shattuck.
@hockeyCK27 Shattuck plays MNHS teams during the year and most times they win by 1-3 goals, and they have been defeated, I believe by Academy of Holy Angels and Benilde-St. Margarets. Get your facts straight.
@mnhockeyfan dont trash midgets its not always about fans its about exposure as well and shattuck gets way more exposure than these teams having kids drafted into the NHL
@mikeyedhockey14 Actually, these teams have far more players drafted each year than Shattucks does... Like someone else said on here, If you took the top 20 players from this tournament to play shattucks, shattucks wouldnt stand a chacne... NHL scouts know the level of HS hockey in Minnesota, and watch many of these kids play. They dont favor certain players because they played prep instead of HS in MN.. In fact, i would say the state tournament is way better exposure for a young player
What s better AA or A?

Shattuck plays against some of the better teams (Benilde, Holy Angels) and wins about 3-1
If they played Eden Prarie or Saint Thomas Academy, they could lose.

@mikeyedhockey14 you tell mem how many players were drafted to the NHL who played for Shattuck, and how many played for a MN HS team. Arguement over.
