What I've never understood about the 'surprise' German forces at Arnheim is that Bletchley Park had cracked the German code and knew of every movement of troops.
@tjhoenecke True - but surely our code breakers would be paying particular attention to messages from an area they knew would be crucial to the success of the operation and even if they didn't track any transmissions from this area there was enough supporting intelligence to show the dangers.
@zthetha Only they threw the thing together in less than a week, and the people in charge simply didn't want to hear anything that meant having to rethink the entire affair, or even the schedule.
HoustonGD, is Battlefield II that much different from Battlefield I?
I don't know much about these programs, are they Discovery, Military or History channels, or independant?
It seems to me watching your Uploads that Battlefield I had far better research especially when dealing with he aforementioned maps/photos.
As a masters degree in Military History and Conflict Resolution it makes my insides turn seeing shoddy maps in what was obviously an expensive series to produce.
Horrible map, the British airborne are shown on the wrong side of the river, the 'horseshoe' is backwards, bridges are shown in wrong succession, etc etc.
Good audio however. Pity they didn't work more with correct photos (mountainous terrain? the atlantic?) and a decent map.
Battlefield II makes frequent mistakes with maps, photos and such. The editor clearly does not have a clue regarding World War II. But, like you said the audio portion is ok..
Those poor polish paratroopers. They were just thrown in the frying pan for nothing. They still dislike the british for it, I can tell you. the germans were waiting for them. And when germans and polish fight: not many prisoners are taken......
Yes this movie did not explain the battle to most people who barely read anything little alone this operation. I watched this movie with a GF who was confused mess afterwards. But, she wasn't very intelligent lol
paratroopers are the best infantry period. Bravest of them all.

@zthetha Yes, but you can't crack the code of a transmission you never intercept in the first place.... ;)

Whomever edited Battlefield II is incompetent. It's like me editing the history of Spain or something like that.

At 2:36 you can actually see paratroopers falling without their chutes open.

The map reference to the 504th Infantry Regiment as a division is incorrect

" A BRIDGE TOO FAR" needs a graphic

Another confusing map reference to Maj. Gen. Urquhart's 1st Airborne Division, with a II battalion symbol
HoustonGD 2 years ago
isnt II the symbol for a brigade?

@MrPpavlouk No Battalion. Brigade is one X

One of the most heroic stands in World War II. Would have been fitting for Lt. Col. Frost to win a VC
