Sometimes a good singer can do more with a song than the writer, but I like what the writer does here

The song was even composed by her too. Beyonce's dad after finding out BC Jean had a problem with her song being taken away and recorded without her permission tried to enforce Beyonce's name as a "writing credit" meanwhile she didn't write anything.

This was her song until her record company completely rejected the idea. After that Jean's producer put it into consideration for higher up artists. Beyonce liked the song and decided to record a more pop version. However all of this was done behind Jean's back and she had no idea till the song reached large status. Because of that she allowed Beyonce to continue to use it IF Beyonce sang a duet on her new album. however, the deal never went through.
i like this version. Beyonce adds a soul element and BC adds a rock element. I don't think either does it better....They just have different interpretations. Plus, BC wrote it from what I understand....she's got more dibs on how it should be determined.

It all comes down to taste and preference of vocal style of the listener. My preference is for this version and this artist edgy uncut raw style. I like the feeling that emotes from her voice...you could feel what she was feeling when she wrote these lyrics...kinda sucks you into the song...which if what I prefer in my music. If yoy go based on just a strong pretty voice than some could argue Beyonce but not me...i adore this chicks appeal in her voice!

even though Beyonce has stolen this song from BC Jean, IMHO Beyonce's amazing voice fits far more better to lyrics of 'If I Were A Boy', Beyonce has got the power in her appearance and some kind of charisma in her voice. But A GREAT RESPECT to BC Jean for writing something so amazingly fantastic

I actually didn't like this song when it came out by Ms annoying voice, beyonce'. Yes, her voice is the annoying one. She has no emotion behind her vocals, and when singing live, she doesn't sound the same as she does on her records or during her lip synched performances. Everyone knows that. Bey has just as much trouble with high notes as your average singer does.
THIS version, right here, THIS version right here, well, it's made me a fan of the song. Such emotion.
Just to add, I don't listen to much mainstream music, I stick to mostly r&B/hip hop, I know most people think Bey is R&B, but she's not anymore, she's more main stream, bubble gum, dance type pop, not soul, not R&B, she's more 'white' with her music than her African-American counterparts, these days. The fake tears in the vids and her concerts are not what counts as expressing emotion through music. It's what comes through in your vocal delivery. I.E. Sam Cooke, Aretha, Otis, MJB, etc....

This was her song until her record company completely rejected the idea. After that Jean's producer put it into consideration for higher up artists. Beyonce liked the song and decided to record a more pop version. However all of this was done behind Jean's back and she had no idea till the song reached large status. Because of that she allowed Beyonce to continue to use it IF Beyonce sang a duet on her new album. however, the deal never went through.

i like this version. Beyonce adds a soul element and BC adds a rock element. I don't think either does it better....They just have different interpretations. Plus, BC wrote it from what I understand....she's got more dibs on how it should be determined.

It all comes down to taste and preference of vocal style of the listener. My preference is for this version and this artist edgy uncut raw style. I like the feeling that emotes from her voice...you could feel what she was feeling when she wrote these lyrics...kinda sucks you into the song...which if what I prefer in my music. If yoy go based on just a strong pretty voice than some could argue Beyonce but not me...i adore this chicks appeal in her voice!

And that's hard to admit since she's basically a twin with a similar vocal ;-) I was SO BEYOND ANGRY when I heard about what happened with Beyonce- I agree, she is So original- it's more about BC than the song she is that cute and original. Mass appeal with Beyonce- okay- but the hint that Beyonce wrote it knots my stomach, to be honest. Loss of respect there for that crew.

even though Beyonce has stolen this song from BC Jean, IMHO Beyonce's amazing voice fits far more better to lyrics of 'If I Were A Boy', Beyonce has got the power in her appearance and some kind of charisma in her voice. But A GREAT RESPECT to BC Jean for writing something so amazingly fantastic

Much better than Beyonce , pure and raw , and the commercial lyric changes actually damage the song - confronted for ' busted ' etc , but the worst robbery in history was Robbie Williams taking Angels off Ray Heffernan , Willians still claims he wrote it but RTE TV proved Heffernan was the real author !!!

I like her version more. She puts more heart into it, and I love how raw it is.
I feel bad for her (and the majority of the songwriters) having her song snatched up like that and then having it become such a huge hit without anyone really recognizing her for it.

I actually didn't like this song when it came out by Ms annoying voice, beyonce'. Yes, her voice is the annoying one. She has no emotion behind her vocals, and when singing live, she doesn't sound the same as she does on her records or during her lip synched performances. Everyone knows that. Bey has just as much trouble with high notes as your average singer does.
THIS version, right here, THIS version right here, well, it's made me a fan of the song. Such emotion.

Just to add, I don't listen to much mainstream music, I stick to mostly r&B/hip hop, I know most people think Bey is R&B, but she's not anymore, she's more main stream, bubble gum, dance type pop, not soul, not R&B, she's more 'white' with her music than her African-American counterparts, these days. The fake tears in the vids and her concerts are not what counts as expressing emotion through music. It's what comes through in your vocal delivery. I.E. Sam Cooke, Aretha, Otis, MJB, etc....
