@rosekin hey i just read this and suddenly i am inspired man. i mean i am at home coz my mom is not well and dont have any good teacher here.. so its been 8 months since i have been with a tutor in real.. was doing a song for 4 days and i just am not able to get it right.. i was just about to give up guitar and then i read ur post... just curious to know do you like play really well now after 7 years or you still feel frustrated at times? and is it really worth while pursuing the guitar??

This would matter a lot more if that there weren't prodigies and savants walking around practically mastering instruments overnight. If you want to play devastatingly intricate music, yet you aren't looking to make it your sole purpose in life, then you will be struggling for a long time. There is nothing more frustrating to me than having a song, ripe with fascinating melodies and sounds, and not being able to play it because I haven't been playing for 10+ years.

This is extremely good and down to earth advice.

Ive been playing guitar for over 35 years now and have had more than a few students myself, and this is very much the attitude ive been trying to teach them.

Maybe practicing on Your instument feels a lot like a task and hard work in the beginning, but the more dedicated You are and the more You get into it .... the more it becomes like meditation.

hey dude when i strum with a pick it kinda exposes the small fretting mistakes i make as apposed to when i just strum with my hand, any advice? i've heard acoustics are less forgiving than electrics because of the pick-up coils correcting these slight things, is this why?

I know what you trying to say is stop being so hard on yourself and keep practicing. For me it might be take a while to pick it up but I know how to read music but sometimes I can't hear it that well. I can't really strum that well. You are ONE OF THE TRUEST BEST GUITAR TEACHER 100% !!!

Great advice. The only benchmark that I can judge myself is this: "Am I better today than I was a week ago?" If the answer is, No, then the solution is "practice." If the answer is, Yes, then

the solution is "practice some more."

mate , you wait until you start thinkin "my performance is only as good as its worst mistake", your head is totally done in, but you really have to be that harsh on yourself to gain the maximine effect out of practice....

Nice guitar (I like the natural satin finish.) Been reading about Takamines lately. Is that the kind with the tube preamp and do you like it if it is? I like the look and feel better without a pickguard but is there some pick damage and does that matter?

I don't think it has a tube, but yes the sound is really nice. No pick guard and these guitars are notorious for having that pick wear.  However, I think it looks cool. It's a great guitar. Thanks for the comments!

Great message, thanks. I've been at it now about 4-5 months (had the guitar sitting around for 20 years) just messing around on my own, stuff I can find and figure out online.
