I cant get enough of this song. Bill evans just swings so hard even with no rhythm section.bill evans take on Heres that rainy day is also a truly amazing song
@jamesedwardtheobald: Here's what Peter Pettinger wrote in his Evans biography about Bill's technique for this session: At ballad tempo he moved along gently behind the soloist with evenly spaced chords, functionally equivalent to guitar strumming, and simultaneously providing harmony, rhythm, and a a cushion for his colleague. In doing so he glided smoothly without accents, demonstrating--along with the ability to sing--another non-percussive use of his instrument.
Solo puedo escuchar y aprender.
Thanks for the explanation Capt. Buster - well said! I should have read the other comments and I would have understood it. Thanks for taking the time. I listened again and with your comments in mind, it made it all fine. Many thanks!
I love the music & of course Bill Evans but I could have done without the chick in the drink - hard to look at. But I closed my eyes, just enjoyed the GREAT music you wee kind enough to post here and I thank you very much and ask that you not take offense to my comment about the woman - none was meant. Thank you and I have subscribed to your awesome musical taste Captain Buster.
Thank you ManagerGuy1, you seem like a bright chap!
As some of the earlier commenters have already mentioned, the picture is meant to represent Evans pain after the death of bassist LaFaro. At least to me, the picture complements the sort of pensive melancholy (typical swedish mood) in the music that makes the album so darn special. No offense taken, I can certainly relate to the introspection that you are hinting at. Have a good one!
@CaptainBuster ..... I think that this picture is not only beautiful, but one of the most fitting albm covers I have ever seen , considering the title of the album and the mood of the music
@CaptainBuster Not to mention that its the photo that appeared on the original album cover. Yeesh. Some people are just uninformed. Personally, I think the photo is simultaneously beautiful and haunting. Just like this music. It's perfect. The folks at Blue Note knew what they were doing.
@CaptainBuster: And a little background information on the photo: it was taken at Wikee Wachee, Florida, where one can stand in a submerged tank room with windows and watch "Mermaids" perform underwater ballet.
@ManagerGuy1 I absolutely love the cover picture on this recording and have ever since I purchased the record when it was newly released. It's gorgeous and evocative, in my opinion - it's lyrical, romantic, and has a great feeling of depth (as in subconscious depth) not unlike the music played by Evans and Hall. Also, the woman has lovely feet.
Two masters of introspective, melodic jazz who know how to listen and create delicate interplay coupled with respect for space and silence between the notes.
hehey, cna u tell me how u r learning it on guitar? did u get music sheets or tabs for this? also, if you know some jazz combo where guitar play a significant role, can u recommend me some? i feel like my role in my jazz band is diminishing. thaks

What's going on guys?
The photograph was chosen by Bill Evans himself for the record......a photograph by Toni Frissell titled Weeki Wachee spring, Florida.

3:01 - hall and evans hit the same single note. cool sound. stealing that idea, too. this track is just too horribly, god-awfully tasteful...
