I agree with others, i beleive the best man she ever knew was rory, not the doctor. Its more logical, the doctor cannot die, unless it is to be discontinued. Think about it, who is the best man you know? Your dad maybe? Point proven.
River song is going to kill the greatest MAN she ever knew. Who is the greatest MAN in Doctor who. Thats not the doctor as he is not a MAN and he is not GOOD. As was stated in a Good man goes to war. 2 "men" went to war that day. One wasnt a man or good. Leaving? Rory Williams went to war. Rory is a good man. To River Song her father will probably be the Greatest Man.

But it's a good thought. i thought it might end up being that too, since it seemed increasingly clear that River was going to kill the Doctor, so much so that i thought it must be just a misdirection. And you have a good point with that "good man" stuff. Except while the Doctor might not see himself as a good man, there are others, billions of others apparently, that say otherwise, according to The Wedding of River Song.
