  • CANTER, the three beats of a cantering horse set to music!

  • great theme, nice call and response between the french horns and the strings.

  • Thank you.

  • God forgives

  • Jerome Moross wrote the theme.

  • Seems to be available on DVD as bootlegs made from VHS copies of TV broadcasts but it deserves better.

  • Love the video. Does anyone know if there is a post office box number for James where people can send fan male?

If so, please let me know on this video site.

    Thanks

    Dianne R.

  • @Jennyfur1978 - Jenny, before you send fan mail, you might want to google him and see what crimes he has been arrested for. I'm not trying to cause you any grief, but I had a big crush on Johnny Madrid and was shocked and sickened when I found out what James Stacy turned into.

  • why didn't Elizabeth Baur make the credits for the second season?

  • What production company was "Lancer" under?

  • 20th century fox

  • @sexymama1966---thank you:)

  • They should bring back all of the old western shows too TV , better than some of the junk they have on TV today.

  • @buckskin0071001 I second that.

Here's wishing you a Happy New Year.

  • Thanks for the reply and a Happy New year to you also .

  • @buckskin0071001 Remember when theme songs were the calling card of a fine television program?

If you today's television is total 'whatever', raise your hand.

  • 90% of TV programs shown today are not worth watching , most of it is to violent or to stupid . Most of the programs geared towards teen's should never be aired and many of the movies should be banned .

  • yes, i do remember when theme songs were calling cards:)

  • theme music possibly, as opposed to songs! Singing didn't fit every show where it was used. But the themes of the 60s stick in the head for anyone who was there, like the various adventures from ITC in Britain. Credits music for Westerns like this one were the best: HIGH CHAPARRAL, THE VIRGINIAN still resound, and even things where I can;t recall much of the show, like IRON HORSE or CADE'S COUNTY

  • My first name is Lancer... named after the Mitsubishi Lancer...

  • I hadn't seen that in about 30 years. Thanks for bringing back memories of being a kid on Saturday & Sunday afternoon.

  • i live on a ranch. i'm good with a gun and a rope. has my little brother is. but my older sister is good with her smart mouth!

  • Move over Bonanza!!! IMHO Lancer has the top western theme of all time. This great show needs to be released on dvd.

  • I wouldn't say the top theme--Cimarron Strip gets that honor--but the Lancer theme ranks among the top five television themes of all time.

  • Just had the wierdest moment!

I don't remember anything about this show... even the title didn't ring a bell... just clicked on the clip by chance.

Then when the music started, I realised I must have heard it as a kid. Recognised it straight away and got a real nostalgiagasm!

  • i found my high school year book , it ask what your favorite shows at the time was. and it was cool to see that i wrote lancer down.

  • this was one of my favorite tv shows as a kid, I hated when they canceled it

  • Another of the great western themes. I can't take any articles seriously about the "greatest television themes" if the authors are going to go around and ignore the 1950s and 1960s themes, especially the western theme music.

  • I loved the music too!!! It really was good - so was the whole beginning scene with the horses, etc. And I too had a major crush on James Stacey. Thanks for posting this

  • Jerome Morross right? I love his scores. thanks!

  • Yep. One can tell this theme was composed by a world-class movie composer. It's one of television's finest.

  • Love the brass strings xylophone and tympani arrangements!

  • I grew up to become a musician and can tell you this was a great theme, good orchestration watched it my Grandmothers Philco TV back when I was a youngin!!Man memories are haunting.

  • I finally got someone to make the Johnny Madrid song my ring tone. but now i hate having to answering it so i can hear most the song. but my friends all know it might take a few mintes for me to pick up. i am still watching aleast one movie a night after almost three months.

  • The music to these early shows had personality, much like a lot of the stars and guests of these shows. That is sorely missed today, no great music, no personality and very little talent.

  • Thanks for posting this, I loved this back in the day, I had a big crush on James Stacy, I was in love with him, in my childish way. My sister fancied the blond bloke, can't think why!! I would love to get this in DVD, doubt it is available in the UK.

  • I just love the song to Johnny Madrid. i am going to try and get it as my cell phone ringer. that would be so cool . i already have his picture as my screen saver .. got to love him .

  • i just got my cd of the all the lancer movies . i am on my 5 one . just love them

i cant stop watching them . got to be late every night casue of it. and have not been to my barn in 3 days . my horses will not know me........i just cant get enought. don't know what i will do when i am finished . but start all over again.

  • James lost a leg and a arm. he made one movie after that. but i just could not watch it .....

  • What a great opening theme. I'm still in awe as to the quality of the classic western T.V. series. Today's music simply can't hold a candle to this great stuff!!!!

  • Today's music can't hold a candle to ANYTHING.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

  • One of the best western themes, along with Cimarron Strip, and How the West Was Won tv series.

  • I just noticed that you can sign up to be notfied of this on dvd at amazon so I guess it will be out soon. Yea!

  • Great theme, but I have no memory whatsover of the show. Must have been passed my bedtime.

  • This opening and the rushes look really good. Is this on DVD?

  • Thanks for the memories. I haven't seen this since I was a kid. I had a big crush on James Stacy.

  • Does anybody know if this program is on DVD yet?

  • The show is owned by Fox which hasn't released many titles from its TV library.

  • I wonder if Jmes Stacey ever look at this old footage of himself back in the day. You never know what life is going to throw at you. He had an unfortunate life after that motorcycle accident but he was a fantastic actor. I do remember that as a kid

  • yeah, he lost a leg and had a hard time adjusting

  • That was a great series. I loved the theme music, it was written by Jerome Moross, the guy who wrote the theme for 'The Big Country'

  • Yeah, I always thought she was pretty hot, both on Lancer and Ironside. She should have been on the opening credits too.

  • Boy, poor Elizabeth Baur never gets credited at all. That's a shame, but it was the best western ever. "Have Gun Will Travel" was the only contender to it.

  • I could have sworn they added her to the opening titles near the end of the second season.
