Why isn't Australian music as good or as original as this anymore... it's all too Americanized and ruined by popularity contest winners. It really is just Kylie all by herself and it has been like that for almost 10 years... come on Australia, you can do better, look how great Canadian musicians are for instance!
Incredibly gifted and multi-talented band who along with Inxs and Noiseworks are my favourite Aussie artists, but the real swinger for me is the almost "Roxyfied" vocals and construction of some of their songs and seeing that Roxy Music are the vehicle for the Son of God, that is the biggest compliment I can pay
I cant help but find todays music a little boring compared to when I was growing up in the 80's with this music. One of the best bands to see in concert
Great stuff man.and i like Hawkwind too. Black night parked some where, Sonic Attack on the car stereo, joints, and all good man. Memories from Andy the old Aussie bloke.
@zhred It is because children are not being taught it anymore, it is not important, sad. Parents should if they can introduce the classics and give them music lessons. Teach the classics so that they understand the notes, melody, and harmony and how they need all those components not just noise and rhythm. By classics I mean things such Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, even George Gershwin. Today’s children have no idea what music is they do not hear it. Iva had this.
Ivor Davies is pretty talented. He's a multi-instrumentalist....that would be him playing the oboe part in this at about 2.25. He has written the score for quite a few films.....including Master and Commander (The Russel Crowe movie).
that sound is usualy at the sun burst dude why not fill the house with oprah and be blessed with iva and his artistic point of view I m comin to make sure its big in shorts
Maybe one day Aussie music will meet at the street cafe and tear down the boards of the door that have been there since the late 1980's and produce more outstanding music. - until then Aussie music R.I.P
Thanks for posting this. You would think that a video of this caliber would have had airplay on MTV in 1982 but I have never seen it before. However, I did own a copy of "Primitive Man" in that year (because I saw "We Can Get Together" played in 1981) and fell in love with this song. I was 12/13 & it was time to learn a musical instrument at school. I picked the oboe specifically because of it. I'm grateful for Mr. Davies for that :)
Ditto to the last two comments, this was great music.....those of us who lived the 80's understand, our music was happy, uplifiting and original........good times. This is a great band.....talented to the end.

Can't have an 80s revival because it was built around the venues, the radio stations (commercial and public), the TV shows and the fans. Icehouse one of the few bands that didn't get worse with fortune and time.
Hammer song!
Iva Davies is the reason why there is no Flowers / Icehouse music available on iTunes.
It's difficult finding anything in the record stores; was a rumour a while back that another 'Best of' was to be released. I have the greatest respect for Iva and all incarnations of his bands, but it looks like I'll have to try rescuscitate my vinyl records and tapes.
I shoot every damn liar (I mean lawyer). It was a a bitch just to get Man of Colours. Iva should just run at sever at home, and we pay him for his awesome efforts...There you go, real music. No label. ...just music
A friend of mine who was a DJ turned me onto Icehouse and this song in particular early on and I was hooked! I used to always listen to them in my car cruising with the top down. I'm listening to them right now on my Zune and they are still an awesome band! Boy do I miss the 80's!!
I don't know the final outcome but Iva Davies sued the label and they there was a huge falling out and EVERYTHING was pulled from the market while the suit dragged on and on. I thin kit was pretty much the end of Icehouse along with other troubles but everything got really hard to find. I found all of my stuff that I didn't already have (cd's) used at used record and cd stores. All I had in the day was vinyl and cassette tape copies.
Eines der Besten Songs der 80´er,und wie ich finde überhaupt!!!Zum Video..,naja da finde ich hätte man sich schon was Besseres einfallen lassen können, auch zur damaligen Zeit.
Not to criticize the Music Video theme but listening the Song alone you'd imagine a more romantic scene just like the "Crazy" video, Love themed songs and Video goes toghether. Icehouse Rocks !!
When I was little more than a kid. one of my group of friends emmigrated to Australia. When he went back he took ours with him. It's all about hands across the world people, it's all about hands across the world.
Aussie Rock really lost its way from the Mid 90's until now. Pitty we have to follow suit with the USA and UK being taken over by Pop. Bring back the 80's I say.
@Warthogfan this tune is simmilar to the roxy music tunes from avalon which came out the same year, but i would never call this pop in a million years with a bass riff like that
@Warthogfan Those bands were real pie and sauce, washed down with a beer, whereas Icehouse were the full three course meal - with a complimentary glass of red. Apples with oranges.

Iva Davies has been working on and off on an as yet unreleased new Icehouse album for years but for some reason has not wanted to release it. A couple of tracks are here on YouTube ( Your God Not Mine & Big House).
Iva has also worked on theater productions and music for films like Master And Commander.

Wow, I saw the video for this for the one and only time 25 years ago (aaargh), and thought it was mint. Great to see it again, It must have cost a fortune at the time! Always loved this song, only saw them live once (T&C London, 1987) and it was one of the best gigs I have seen, Aussie bands always rock!

One of my favorite bands--moving lyrics and extremely creative arrangements.

this was probably the best song i heard in the early-mid 1980s... certainly in as much as it evokes some very strange and emotional memories for me.
nice to hear it again.

I'd forgotten how much i liked this song. Thanks to Tara for seeing them in Sydney and reminding me of how good they were.

Man Of Colours might have been Icehouse's most successful album but I think the first 2 albums were the best ... Icehouse & Primitive Man.
I love this track ... my fave Icehouse song & a great clip.

Iva Davies has been working on and off on an as yet unreleased new Icehouse album for years but for some reason has not wanted to release it. A couple of tracks are here on YouTube ( Your God Not Mine & Big House).
Iva has also worked on theater productions and music for films like Master And Commander.
