@zhred It is because children are not being taught it anymore, it is not important, sad. Parents should if they can introduce the classics and give them music lessons. Teach the classics so that they understand the notes, melody, and harmony and how they need all those components not just noise and rhythm. By classics I mean things such Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Tchaikovsky, even George Gershwin. Today’s children have no idea what music is they do not hear it. Iva had this.

Ivor Davies is pretty talented. He's a multi-instrumentalist....that would be him playing the oboe part in this at about 2.25. He has written the score for quite a few films.....including Master and Commander (The Russel Crowe movie).

Thanks for posting this. You would think that a video of this caliber would have had airplay on MTV in 1982 but I have never seen it before. However, I did own a copy of "Primitive Man" in that year (because I saw "We Can Get Together" played in 1981) and fell in love with this song. I was 12/13 & it was time to learn a musical instrument at school. I picked the oboe specifically because of it. I'm grateful for Mr. Davies for that :)

Iva Davies is the reason why there is no Flowers / Icehouse music available on iTunes.

It's difficult finding anything in the record stores; was a rumour a while back that another 'Best of' was to be released. I have the greatest respect for Iva and all incarnations of his bands, but it looks like I'll have to try rescuscitate my vinyl records and tapes.

A friend of mine who was a DJ turned me onto Icehouse and this song in particular early on and I was hooked! I used to always listen to them in my car cruising with the top down. I'm listening to them right now on my Zune and they are still an awesome band! Boy do I miss the 80's!!

I don't know the final outcome but Iva Davies sued the label and they there was a huge falling out and EVERYTHING was pulled from the market while the suit dragged on and on. I thin kit was pretty much the end of Icehouse along with other troubles but everything got really hard to find. I found all of my stuff that I didn't already have (cd's) used at used record and cd stores. All I had in the day was vinyl and cassette tape copies.

Iva Davies has been working on and off on an as yet unreleased new Icehouse album for years but for some reason has not wanted to release it. A couple of tracks are here on YouTube ( Your God Not Mine & Big House).

Iva has also worked on theater productions and music for films like Master And Commander.
