@vernietigert I bought bottle on arachna bot. Team trolled me. Went 4/0 first, then 13/4 later. Whole team that flamed me for buying bottle on arach sucked and didn't get 1 single kill until 15 mins, then they cc'ed with their 4-5 deaths each.

Tell me why bottle on any mid lane hero is bad. Rune whoring works for everyone, not just for mana dependent solo mid heroes like TB.

@Azumongo as first item it's bad because it gives 0 stats. stats are important, most importantly they give you more hp. depending on what hero you play mid you can also get a hatchet and/or a shield, which makes last hitting easier (giving you the 600g for a bottle faster) and reducing damage taken.

when you have a bottle as your first and only item, any decent opponent will bloodlust you with autoattacks and maybe 1 spell/stun

@vernietigert true, stats are important and especially in the beginning, getting insta-killed by heroes like TB is nothing special. Like all items it should be something decided upon the enemy team. If I see that they got no decent mid lane hero and therefore someone like Rampage has to be mid, then I'll gladly buy a bottle with heroes like Soulstealer or other good harassers. If an enemy hero has way less lane control than me, i'll go on the offensive to throw his farming back.

You can get bloodlust or harash nicely opponent, because you have a good chance that opponent don't even know how to use courier.

I agree that today and when the level and skills of players are better it is a bad plan.

@JoveeHon Could be but as you also know in those days arachna was the scariest (and most often played) solo hero even (though she was much scarier a few patches before cd) and has a passive to boost attack damage so you would usually need some stat items to be able to outlast hit so assuming players are somewhat equally skilled (yes I know how crazy that is with unlimited accounts to boost and shit) you would just have to shutdown arach with some denies.
