• I actually don't like Corella as prince on "Swan Lake" but he's the best Romeo EVER!

  • This is so beautiful - and I still can't decide whether I prefer her with Corella or Bocca. They are both stupendous anyway! But Ferri's Juliet is just a miracle!

  • Meraviglioso...

  • my ballet mentor had coached Ferri when she had first gotten to the States.. she said she couldn't do a double pirouette en pointe because of her amazing feet.. well idk if she can't do a single, she is one of the most gorgeous dancers I have ever seen live and still when I watch this I cry because she dances this way. One of the best of all time.

  • Stunning, absolutely stunning. So authenic and it´s so truthful, you believe that they´re teens in love. Thank you so much for this post.

  • Gracias por subir esta parte. Podrían subirlo entero el ballet de Romeo y julieta con estos dos grandes bailarines. Sería muy bueno!!!!!!!

  • now im not positive correct me if im wrong, but im pretty damn sure that when shakespeare created the play he said "when this is made into a ballet it will be made for alessandra ferri and angel corella." i think i remember him saying that somewhere....

  • @applelemonhead3345 Wrong! The Bard said 'Let Juliet be known as Lyn Seymour'. So Macmillan listened & fashioned a ballet from the play, with the great Seymour as his muse. Lo. it came to pass a young tartar flew at a French cop demanding sanctuary, then Seymour & Gable denied the opening night for which they had worked so hard, so that F & N could appear instead. It had nothing to do with art & everything to do with a quick killing at the Box Office. Shameful episode, great choreography

  • @MrKLT1945 TL;DR

  • I hope this isn't considered blasphemous but I like Bolle & Kent better. : /

  • Dear Dear Miss Ferri

For as long as I live, through all my life times, you will forever be JULIET. Thank you.

  • WOW ...........PERFECTION! I would do anything tobe able to dance like Ferri does and beside the absoulotely amazing dancing that set is fantastic aswell!

  • This is American Ballet Theatre.

  • @BalletDancerAmerica it´s not ABT, but Teatro alla Scala with Corella and Ferri as guest artists

  • They are perfection. What company is this??

  • I've seen this pdd many times, and done many ways, and personally this has so far been my favorite. I love that throughout the whole peice it has this sort of flowing feeling in it that reminds me of young love and how you feel like you're floating on a cloud. Also I love the innocence of how right before they kiss they're smiling at eachother and she looks down nervously and then back up to him. I just feel like it's something a nervous someone would do before their first kiss.It was beautiful

  • Angel was really into that kiss! :) lol I love him <3

  • Everything is so perfect and so believable. They have made Shakespeare very proud.

Thanks to all the artists and everyone involved from stage to backstage so the audience can enjoy such a breathtaking performance. Angel and Ferri are perfect in their interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. Thanks to technology too as it captured the best performance of life time.

  • She's perfect, the best, but Corella is truly breathtaking here, couldnt take my eyes of off him, he makes it look so believable, he actually looks in love. And the kiss! His Romeo is definitely so much better than Bocca's and Eagling's. And his Prince Siegfried is also a joy to watch. Absolute perfection these two!

  • amazing... crazy good feet!

  • Well this is true dance and true art, not zakharova and so on; I mean they are surely good in technique but there's no emotion when they dance and by the way even if those kind of dancers are grea,t they don't and won't have Alessandra Ferri's lines which are really stunning, I think the most beautiful in the world for sure! find me someon's better if you can

  • So beautiful.

  • I just...I can't...There are no words for this other than perfection.

  • This is my favorite ballet at the moment, and not just because of this spectacularly brilliant scene.

  • am i the only one wishing i were ferri just for that final kiss??? Lol

  • Wow. Amazing.

  • Angel Corella is breathtaking...

  • ferri has the best arch i have ever seen!!! she's breathtaking!

  • ALL the peeps that think ballet is easy and dont respect the dancers need to watch this video i mean corella has to lift up 105 pounds that is either moving or in a exquisite position above his head while keeping an expression making no sounds and keep his body graceful while football players may lift 300 they are not graceful can grunt and make ugly faces lifting something lifeless, still also ferri is so wonder ful dont get me started feet extention gracefulness expression....

    and the kiss

  • I love how Ferri can take some facial expressions from modern days and put them in these ballets.

    (For instance 1:02 minutes left)

  • Corella is wonderful. I loved his movements.

  • i have to agree with '66nylorac'. Corella is so wonderfully playful, naive, rash, and somewhat childishly-passionate. it was almost like watching the video of Nurayev/Fonteyn; you can feel the passion and the being in love for the first time. It's wonderful.

  • I'm just speechless... what an experience.

  • Angel Corella.... O.O Damn he's good. But I only notice that whenever I'm not taking in Ferri's feet, of course.

This version is a lot more playful than the one Ferri danced with Bocca. Both are absolutely lovely and breathtaking, but they're different. With Ferri/Bocca's I feel like there was a lot more going underneath and was *within* the dancers, while this is just eye candy for the audience. Sometimes I feel like the faster speed makes it a little choppier, but it feels more dynamic.

  • This has reestablished my faith in humanity and I just fell a little bit in love with Romeo...

  • does anyone know who the choreographer of this version is?

  • @lemmmsss36 I believe it's MacMillan

  • @lemmmsss36 it's by Sir Kenneth MacMillan

  • i think i'm in love with him....and i'm sure i'm in tears

Those two are one of the cuttest couples ever!!!

  • simply AMAZING.... without words..... *.*

  • If I were given one chance in my entire life to dance a pas de deux from any ballet with flawless technique & the perfect partner....I think this would be it! Amazing, chills, (lots and lots of chills!!!) stunning, beautiful, perfect partnership....I could go on!!!

  • Angel portrays a lovely Romeo here.

  • To be quite honest, I actually think that Alessandra is a better Juliet than Margot Fonteyn was. And I HAVE watched the entire recorded ballet with Fonteyn and Nureyev, and yes, she's amazing, but I love Alessandra as Juliet.

  • @citruzzlove I totally agree!

  • Alessandra Ferri is one of the best dancers ever. I love her and this is one of my favourite PDD!Awesome!

  • 昔テレビで放映されていた、

    バレエフェスティバルで初めて見たロミオとジュリエットのジュリエットが、フェリでした。ビデオテープに録画して何回も何回も繰り返し見た覚えがあります。

  • HER FEEEET :))) so beautiful

  • They're my favourite dancers! And they have danved TOGETHER!!!! This is my lucky day!

  • this was just BEAUTIFUL =D

  • AMAZING archh!! Im jealous.

  • best interpretation ever! i swear that alessandra isn't even human she's so flawless. and angel is my absolute favorite male dancer at ABT. they're stunning together!

  • Sometimes I think she isn't human too... :)

  • That gave me chills!

  • ME too!! The music, the dancing, everything was perfect!! Got chills just typing that! :-P

  • I'm weeping. Magnificent.

  • They make a beautiful couple. And she's the only Juliet who can hold a candle to Kirkland.

  • really? i strongly prefer her to kirkland.

  • That's what makes the world go around. ;-) Having seen them all onstage, Kirkland just has something live that I've never seen in any other dancer. Check out the clip of her Giselle act I var. But I love Ferri too. I was very sad to see her retire.

  • Greatest Romeo an Juliet ever!!!!!! It´s awesome!!The´re great actors!!! I love them!

  • What I love about Corella here is that, I buy it! I BELIEVE that he is a 16 year old boy, a bit rash, playful, and oblivious to how dangerous this is. I also fully believe he is in love for the first time, and I love the smiles of wonder, and the kiss, all of it. Of course, Mcmillan's choreography, and the score alone are stunning.

As far as Ferri, what more can be said, she is breath-taking.

  • ....corella and ferri all the way.

this interpretation of romeo and juliet makes me wanna cry every time. it so beautifully done. AMAZING <3

  • mi sono messa a piangere veramente stupendo!

  • best romeo and juliet pdd i've ever seen.

it makes me cry. i love everything. even the way her dress moves in the air is so beautiful...

the dancing and the acting are flawless...they're both perfect!

    and the kiss...wow!

    Spectacular!

  • This is (without a doubt) the number one ballet I 'need' to dance! I wast this ballet so bad!

  • 2:49. soo cute.

    amazing dancers.

  • BELLISSIMOOOOOOO

  • i cant stop watching it.....

  • that was really amazing but I still love Julie Kent and Ethan Stifel they are soooo good in Romeo and Juliet.

  • no words to define Alessandra!

Before becoming a conductor, I was a ballerina and had the opportunity to watch Alessandra live in London!!!!

her expression...her lines....her movements, so perfect and clear!

    Alessandra and Alla Michalchenko...the best!

  • so beautiful...

  • i simply have no words to describe such beauty and such feelings....nothing in the world and in history can be that beautyful and perfect. the music, he coreography, the dancers, the interpretation...it seems a divine creation to show us how heaven is like.

no one can ever be such a perfect juliet like ferri. and corella...i just love him, i have no words..

  • EPIC!!!!!!!! this is the best thing ive ever seen in my life! Ferri so graceful and so beautiful (like shes never not been...) and Corella,..... no words for that man, EPIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • ya that was pretty much amazing. but also look at Julie Kent and Ethan Stifel they are amazing too. o and tell me what one you love better.

  • without doubt they are really good as well, but i still prefer corella and ferri...they inspire me much more

  • Corella has the clean lines and the clean controlled teqhnique of Baryshnikov, but lacks his muscular intensity...

  • Alessandra's feet are ridiculous. And Angel's my favorite premier danseur simply because of how great of an actor he is as well as a dancer. This video is gorgeous.

  • what do you mean with ridiculous feet??

  • Oh I meant it as a compliment. By "Ridiculous", I meant "absolutely gorgeous." That turnout and that point are incredible, I'm so jealous of it!

  • what a compliment! hahaha you `re so right about angel, he's a very good actor too!!

  • This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The dancing is incredible! And what beautiful acting! ♥

  • A ju e o euge vao arrasar...

  • che poesia!!!!

  • this pas de deux is so innocent and beautiful.. by the way, what a good kiss. lol

  • LOL glad it's not just me who noticed that about the kiss....

  • Breathtaking

  • I love how this dance is so innocent and is simply young love. It's funny how the things we see on television now days give such a terrible vision of what humans have come to be...

  • i totally agree

  • my favorite thing about the romeo and juliet balcony pas is that each version is so different. when you see alessandra with wayne eagling, the relationship seems much more serious, while angel is so playful.

  • pointegrl23 you're soooo right.

and the one with julio bocca [my personal favorite] is very deep and passionate, you know?

none the less, all are absolutely beautiful variations and i'm near tears every time i watch.

    absolutely mesmerizing.

  • pdossibly the most beautiful thing iv'e seen.

  • the best ive seen.

Alessandra ferri inspires me so much. she just reminds me why i do ballet class every day.

    LOVE HER

  • i'm inlove with angela corella.. defenetly

  • EXCELENTE!! los dos estan impecables... y que buen beso!!

  • Beautiful Prokofiev!!!

  • this was beautiful!! love the choreography. im curious though, was there a younger second cast for this production?

  • this is my lifeee.

    so0o goooood

  • I can spell Alessandra!

  • Alessabdra Ferri is exquisite perfection.

  • that is beautiful. yes, it's kenneth macmillan. I like it better than the cranko version.

  • That looks like Kenneth MacMillan's choreography. Alessandra Ferri is the ultimate Juliet. What I like about her is she seems so happy, flirty, joyful. Really in love with her Romeo. It's amazing, she got better and better in this role as her career progressed, much better in her 40's than when she was in her 20's. See her with the Royal Ballet in 1984 if you don't believe me.

  • this is amazing! who did the choreography?

  • alisandra ferri is like the original julliet her signature role and shes sooo amazing!!!!! i want her legs!!!1

  • That moment when they see each other in the beginning and their eyes lock is so passionate; you can see the love pass between them. Alessandra Ferri is my idol and my favorite ballerina, especially as Juliet. And Angel? Oh my gosh, I love him too and I wish that would've been me he kissed! :)

  • So so Beautiful , theese two are my fav pairing for Romeo and Juliet , I never get bored of warching this <3 . Out of intrest does anyone know how tall they are ? . I can't get over how elegant Alessandra is !.

  • Gracious, I love her feet! And the rest of the video. lol

  • yo quiero bailar con angel!

  • Oh mg god this is the most beautiful ballet ever created! This scene makes me weep every single time I watch it! These guys are wonderful together, I've never seen so much passion with so much elegance

  • I admire Ferri for remaining standing after that kiss cos if it were me i would have fainted right on the spot and ruined the show!

  • i second that! it would have made my life complete :]

  • i must agree.. that kiss did look amazing, and i'm not even a huge angel fan!!

  • In march i will go to the teatro alla scala to see this ballet with roberto bolle!!! don't wait for it!!!!!!

  • l'anno scorso ho visto bolle ne "Lo schiaccianoci"...Fantastico!! e anche bellissimo =)

  • Perfect. You will not see better than this anywhere, ever.

  • I don't care who or what is doing this part. I think that those two are absolutly the most perfect pair to play the part of Romeo and Juliet. A.F. is so incredibly beautiful!

  • ... I want to be Alessandra Ferri when they kiss... xD

  • I prefer Corella to other Romeos because he is one of the few who is youthful enough for the role. The characters are basically children - Bocca never captured that as Romeo.

Somehow Alessndra Ferri was a perfect Juliet from the beginning of her career until the end.

  • I agree totally. They look the part as well as act the part and dance the part. That's about as good as it gets.

  • the best romeo and juliet ever

  • dont get me wrong...they are obviously amazing dancers...i just think they smile a little too much. but what do i know? my god he is sexy though.

  • Could it be that they smile because they are happy in love? Just a thought.

  • Ive seen lots of dancers do the R&J balcony PDD and no one and I do mean no one does it like Ferri and Corella. They are not only the most incredibly exquisite dancers I've ever seen and embody the romantic ideal of the characters, but they are consummate actors as well. They look at each other as if entranced. They touch each other as if they can't get enough. And their kiss.... is pure magic! Thank you for posting this wonderful video.

  • i prefer the version with bocca but this one is fantastic too

  • To each his own.

I still remember the raves Nureyev and Fontaine got back in the sixties for their Romeo and Juliet. If you look at it today it's almost laughable (In my opinion).

  • sono una coppia magnifica....

non saprei neppure dire chi è il migliore tra i due!

  • beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful!

  • It's definitely the best I've seen. :D Awesome!!! :D

  • Now that Ferri has retired, it's good to know there are these available here. Inspires poetry.

  • MMMmmm yum yum kiss. I'd love to kiss Corella, just to be honest. Yummy.

  • magnifique mais pour moi Wayne Eagling dans Roméo ne danse pas, il vit, il est. Les deux danseurs dans la version avec Eagling sont plus immatériels, plus touchants encore!!

  • Alessandra and Angel are just made for this. Not only because of their skill, but also their looks. They portray the most beautiful and sincere Romeo & Juliet

  • Actually, Angel Corella is probably one of my favorite male dancers out there and I even think he does a great Romeo. However, my FAVORITE Romeo is definitely Julio Bocca! Like Ferri, he dances with his heart and if you watch his first few steps, he doesn't even take his eyes off of Juliet as he does the turns and leaps, etc. Just beautiful.

  • yeah they're a match made in heaven! I was trying to search Julio Bocca and Alessandra Ferri together in Romeo and Juliet but this is what i found. Regardless I was still awed and mesmerized. That was beautiful!

  • i think they are both AMAZING. ferri seems to make everything effortless. LOVE IT!

    *cc*

ps. that was a big smotch at the end! :-P

  • Comparing this to Ethan Stiefel and Julie Kent's version: A.Corella and A.Ferri put more emotion into it and tell the story better, although E.Stiefel and J.Kent portray emotion I feel like they concentrate more on the techinique. I feel like I walk away after watching this knowing more about the story. This is just my opinion.

  • Ferri is the best Juliet the world has ever seen, and Corella is just how Romeo should be, strong with alot of emotion and vigor.

This is my favorite PDD in a ballet I have seen yet.

  • i agree

  • I'd do anything to be juliet right now. *drooling*

  • "Showy" Angel brought youthful excitement to the scene. I don't think it it wrong. Bravo!

  • Bravo for both of them!! Up to my favorites under "balletvideo"

  • i think they are both awesome. Different interpretations are what makes dance unique. Ferri is absolutly devine. The is no better Juliet than her.

  • I disagree. I don't think that Angel Corella is too showy at all. I find his movements to be wonderfully fluid and think that he brings a very sweet charm to the role of Romeo.

  • WOW. Angel Corella is a much better Romeo than Julio Bocca, I think - and Alessandra Ferri is perfect as Juliet.

  • lol no way is angel corella better at romeo- he's way 2 showy- and he doesnt pull off most of the steps as well as bocca (he is great- just not really suited 2 this role) alessandra is the perfect juliet tho- its like the role was made 4 her

  • i think the thing is angel corella is great as romeo taken by himself, but in the romeo variation angel corella is dancing for himself, julio bocca through the entire thing stays connected with alessandra's juliet ... and the role was in fact made for her by kenneth macmillan ;)

  • conclusion: you dont know anything.

  • Uh, no it wasn't.

  • i think macmillan choreographed juliet for lynn seymour...

  • Yes, it was choreographed for Lynn Seymour. But because Margot Fonteyn was more famous, they had her dance the premiere, if I remember correctly...
