How come some of the cutest anime guys, like Johan Anderson from season 3 of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and Kurama are voiced by girls in the original Japanese? Not that that's a bad thing. Kurama is SO HOT!!

How come Youko's voice in this is Ogata Megumi and not his regular voice actor? Is it to potray him as being closer to Shuichi?

It's because about 3 episodes before this one, Kurama's demon energy shot up really high (cuz Yusuke died..AGAIN), and explained that he just took on his dmon form's appearance, but kept his human mind. So I guess the japanese just figured that because of this, Kurama should sound like Shuichi rather than Yoko. Although, funimation I guess figured the opposite that since Kurama took on his demon form, he should sound like Yoko.

It's a matter of opinion here, but that's why. ^^ hope this helps

I'll break it apart so that you can understand it better. In Japanese certain vowel sound different from how they are in English.

a (ah), e (ay), i (ee), o (oh), u (oo)

* Hiei: Hi (hee) ei (ay),

ei ('i' is silent, which gives an 'ay' sound).

* Kurama: Ku (koo) ra (rah) ma (mah)

* Yusuke: Yu (yoo) su (s) ke (kay),

'su' the 'u' is silent which gives you (yoo-s-kay).

"I don't understand why the 'u' is silent. It just is!"

* Kuhabara/ Kuwabara: Ku (koo) ha/ wa (hah/ wah) ba (bah) ra (rah),

it's actually pron. 'Kuhabara' but some regions of Japan pron. it 'Kuwabara'. So either way you pronounce it... it doesn't matter you're still correct. ^_^V

Kurama's japanese voice actor is a woman. Her name is Megumi Ogata and played other roles such as Sailor Uranus from Sailor Moon and Yukito from Card Captor Sakura. She's a singer too. ^^
