When I first watched it years ago - I interpreted it in a different way, but then the older, hopefully the more wiser we become, we come to see things with new eyes, and listen with new ears. He was closed off emotionally to himself and to those around him, once he opened up and started to feel compassion for others, he changed and that radiated out to others. Very funny movie about a very serious subject - Change. Great Post.

All Souls start out bad (selfish) but end up good. The movie is a metaphor and a recommendation for the purpose of reincarnation. Don't throw away a bad Soul, just keep incarnating them, until they come out good. Like putting a rough diamond into a lapidary unit until it sparkles. Phil Conner is a rough diamond, but at the end, he shines! The cast shines too. Always an inspiration watching this movie. Blessings

@ModeLTU it's sad that most of the time it takes pain to make us change. Some never decide to change at all. Stuck in our ways, doing the same things the same ways, making the same mistakes and excuses.  For lots of people their lives are full of Groundhog Days and they never see the shadow of what they've cast behind.

I have to keep telling myself that I can do whatever I want...that's the real test: To find out what it is and do it.

@cyphi1 Thank you. That is what this video is about: doing the same things repeatedly expecting different results. It isnt until Phil begins operating from a charitable heart and not a selfish heart that he changes.

I really like this movie because it's all about character growth. It's a very intimate movie, and an interesting concept to take something like what most people would perceive as Hell and turn it into a positive learning experience.
