I am the ultimate fan of Doctor who and I about scramed with joy when I saw the sonice screwdriver pop out! You could've guessed that I'm writing a Doctor who fanfiction. It stars Matt, Karen, and Arthur in it. Yes I am obsessed with Doctor who. Watch Doctor Who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok I have a Q. Can I do something more like um... It's not fiction. It's more like um. I don't know. You see I have getting Persepctives on what people think of the Bible's Context and Truth. Many different faiths, and many different Q's. Am I aloud to do something like that on NanoWrimo?
Loved it... I do enjoy typing and whatnot... But when I get to typing I feel like I'm typing in a circle or like a dog after it's tail. What the best way to stop this...? Anyone with advice do give. I hope all is well... Take Care And All.
I'm really enjoying this term "suck dragon". Mine is currently curled up next to my lamp, sleeping away peacefully, as I finally get my characters out of the introduction stage and into some action. =)
This was very helpful! I enjoyed your entertaining way of describing "suck dragons"... and I'm sure the world thanks you for the invention of that term! Personally, I watched this after a few days of not having written anything and I thank you for inspiring me to continue writing=D
@lionhawk294 Thanks for the encouragement :) and well done! I can't even comprehend having that many words! I am definitely not giving up though, I will just have to find time!! xx
Seriously, I got half way through The Crystal Shard and he still wasn't finished setting up back story. I quickly skimmed though the rest of the book and it appears that the full first book in the Icewind Dale Trilogy was completely back story. Talk about Suck Dragon.
I've found a lot of his more recent writings are more the same, but people must like the Suck Dragon as his books sell well.
Robyn, darling! I'm delighted to say I've actually read your books! I have to say I love your writing. Also, I've watched your videos before and I have to say 'robynisrarelyfunny' is completely inaccurate. 50 more things to do naked, anyone?
My book this NaNo (YWP and normal) is apocalyptic fiction/YA humor. Yep, weird combo, I know.
this is wonderful advice. I think I have been skilfully avoiding suck dragons. When I was preparing for my novel, I wrote out a 2200 word summary as I attempting to figure out what was going on in the chapters to come.
I thought the point of NaNoWriMo was to vanquish your suck dragons AFTER the month was over? Anyway, I know my story is infested with them so far, but I'll go back and write them out later on. In a lot of ways writing the huge chunks of exposition at the start of my story helped me come to terms with my own world that I was creating. Most of it'll probably go later on, but it's helped me progress the story in the long term.
I really needed a NaNo pep talk, so this came at the perfect time! My pacing is horrendous and I'm quickly figuring out that I can't write action scenes for the life of me. Considering I'm writing an action-heavy novel, this is frightening!
Oh Robyn you know just when I need a video to make me write. The suck dragons have approached my novel but i have fought most of them away. And a NaNoWriMo Blogtv? count me in :P
Thank you for this video!! I am currently battling some suck dragons. In fact I was trying to think of a plan when I ended up getting distracted on youtube. *sigh* But there was your video, ready to hand me a sword! Now off to slay them!
My NaNoWriMo is about a deadly virus tearing through the modern world..... And and and, I loved the sonic screwdriver bit, I was so excited when I saw it.
My NaNoWriMo may not happen this year because of the suck dragon of overcommitment... but at the same time, I think it has promise. It's about an 11-year-old boy with a huge imagination who finds himself in a world that I'm purposely writing to be really vague about how real it is. He becomes an important advisor/figure in two rival towns in this world and is torn between his loyalties to each, and eventually has to make that decision in the most difficult way (explained in the book...) :D
My novel is about four strangers who meet while comatose. Two of the characters attempted suicide which caused the coma, another is just a punk. My main character spends most of the story observing the others and comparing his life to theirs, learning that his dreams were not that great after all.
My NaNoWriMo is about a woman in an unhappy marriage who embarks upon an affair with a younger man. Hmmm when I write it out like this it sounds like a Mills and Boon.... ah well!
Suck dragons come into my novels come into my story alot is because I get so exited about what I'm writing that my vocabulary is boring and vague and I don't like to plot out my plot I get a lot of thoughts in my mind and I like to write as I go
Luckily I have managed to avoid the two types off suck dragons this far, but I expect them to be arriving soon. I've got a problem wich is what my novel is built upon. I've choosed to make this problem for someone else to solve but my main character. This is why I belive that the suck dragons soon will enter. Do you think that it is possible to keep my novel interesting? Maybe my readers should be able to folow this other character-The problem solver)-like a nice twist, what do you think?
In like the third/fourth chapter of my novel two characters take a major relationship step (they fall in love) does it happen to soon since they only meet in the second chapter?
This popped up in my subscription box at just the right time. My Suck Dragons were fast approaching and now I'm able to swerve them with reasonable elegance and wit. Go Robyn! <3
I loved this! Now I'm thinking that my first three chapters were mainly backstory/inner monologue, but I think it works for how I've set up my novel. I usually try to push past that point of suck, and then I get to something I like, and then I suck again hahaha. It's a cycle!
Yay for this video actually showing up in my subscriptions! Also, although I'm not in the Young Writers Program, this is really awesome advice. Thanks, Robyn :)
WHY NOVEMBER 17th?!?! I'm not here!!! ): But thanks, i'd hit a suck dragon, however I THINK I can defeat him...her..it... whatever, I can defeat my dragon now :D
Yes, your video was one of the only videos that appeared in my subscription box! Great video! My sister does NaNoWriMo and wouldn't let me read her story last year and deleted it. I wish I had the creativity and patience to do it, but I can't because of school work.
