Y'know, I went to highschool with Bruce (Vitamin B, the rhythm guitarist) back during the early 1970s, and I remember that he expressed an interest in surf music, and particularly the music of the Ventures, at that time. But surf wasn't really considered all that cool during that period, at least not by the people who thought they were musically trendy and "hip." Congrats to Bruce on being right, riding the right wave, and being ahead of his time.
