if you choose the right conversation option after she deals with the Observer, you get more info about why she's after the Shadow Broker. It has to do with events that take place in the Mass Effect comic book that they released. Long story short, Liara was very instrumental in Shepard's resurrection and the Shadow Broker was trying to interfere.

She fought all that time only to have another one of her best friends get captured. She went through extreme mental trauma those 2 years. Her change is natural.

(SPOILER) She had shepards body but the Shadow broker stole it to sell it for big cash. btw, if you romanced Liara in ME1 like my "female" Shepard the first time the meet again they will have a romantic kiss. Because of that i never had any relations on the normandy and stayed loyal to Liara, can't wait to see how that will affect ME3.
