  • What was that!? I need to see some more highlights if Nick won that.

  • just solid bjj here. awesome transitions!

two legends are the top of their game and theyre only blue belts here.

  • if your not that good as a blue belt you need to go to a new school

  • awsome rolling.. Im sure these guys have had their blue belts for a while

  • waH intense they musta been nakered after that great fight

  • damm

thats is hell of a fight

  • superb kimura escape on 1:50

  • @paulozinha1 was just thinking the same thing i will ave to study that!

  • What an amazing display of BJJ. The fluidity of the technique of both these great practitioners is astounding. Great video!

  • Bj and Diaz fight will be great both on the ground or standing up.

  • I had no idea nick could roll like that...

  • What a fight...:o

  • Roy is great.

  • BJJ on a wrestling mat what dishonor!

  • is nick diaz the one with long hair or short hair?

  • @rommyali Diaz has the shorter hair

  • Roy Dean's defense and escapes are out of this world

  • @sprawlmessiah

I'm always impressed with Roy's escapes. They look like he was never in a submission in the first place.

  • @BigolePappy2 amen to that

  • Nick Diaz forever

  • Roy Dean is smooth , very smooth

  • that kimura escape was ninja

  • Wow really good match.

  • this is santa cruz correct?

  • What a sick guard had Diaz back then.

  • @jkdbjjconnection I think if they got a real good Messican fighter like Velasquez or Martinez, he can be beat.

  • nick diaz seems to be a really talented bjj practitioner... even in his blue belt days o_O

  • @waldomarek Seems to be? He's a Cesar Gracie Black Belt.

  • @IconoJett I wonder how hard it is to get a bb under him

  • Damm...looks like there was at least 100 points scored in that match...amazing!

  • I was at this fight & thats why we call NICK MONKEY MAN he ges out of ANYTHING!!!!

  • I'm reading Roy Dean's blog now. He said Nick Diaz was the toughest match he's ever had and that Nick submitted everyone else in the tournament and won the division after this match. Damn. I didn't know Nick was THAT good that young.

  • nice match!

  • nick is top shelve everything!

  • @clytnjms Yeah Id agree, Roy Dean would be fun to watch in MMA. Hes like the Escape Artist in BJJ. lol

  • 1.50. wtf! how did Roy get out of that kimura attempt?

  • @bizkitninja Forward roll :D

  • Blue belt matches are so much more fun to watch than black belt

  • How do you compose your music Roy, do you play instruments

  • I feel bored when I watch grappling( doesn't mean I hate them, I love grappling) the music keeps it entertaining

  • damn Nick kept sweeping the hell out of you, I like your music though.

  • Beautiful match, some of the greatest escapes ive seen in a long time

  • Are you a black belt now? who are you under?

  • I thought I was close to blue belt till I saw this. You're awesome Roy. Both of you guys are so good in this match.

  • Great fight!

  • great skills

  • great roll!!

  • are you also friends with nick diaz?

  • two great fighters...much respect

  • Wow, if this is how Blue belts are supposed to roll, I feel completely undeserving.

  • @Blindingraven Don't worry, absorb the greatness of a black belt and you too will roll like these guys

  • @Blindingraven Passion

  • Okay... I just went to iTunes and bought all your albums. Damn well done. Just like your martial arts.

  • Awesome match!

  • respects to both of you!!

  • Such an even match

  • Wow seriously high level blue belts.

  • Roy Dean has great technique.. Great timing too.. Great Job...

  • I didn't know nick diaz competed in Gi tourney since he's a black belt under cesar gracie no gi jiu jitsu

  • wow these guys are only blue belts they had to of been right on the edge of being promoted. both Roy and Dean look like solid purple belts in this video.

  • @carlsongracieteam You mean Roy and Nick?

  • @420crippy yeah haha my fault

  • very exciting and high level matches. the escape from the kimura was off the hook.

  • ridiculous escapes

  • good roll

  • wow you make your own theme music, now thats an instructor...you should do the next Dos Equis commercial...

  • If I recall correctly, Roy was already a judo shodan when he started bjj, while Nick must've wrestled for several years before he started bjj. Blue belts -rrrriiiighhhttt,

  • jesus, this is just the blue belts? haha

  • yeah back then a Blue Belt meant something, not like today with every douchebag having one

  • @kalipfs haha thats insane, they are really amazing. I mean no doubt some errors but... wow what skill

  • amazingly skilled match between two (nearly?) equally skilled participants... matched with great music as well, thanks!

  • i believe it is a roy dean original

  • wrestlers are good at the top controll aspect of ground fighting and they are hard to move, they still lose cause they arn't used to someone doing techniques from their back, but they do learn fast

  • Awesome. That even looked like a demo with all those sweeps, reversals. Brilliant technique!

  • Great example of looking for the holes and going with the flow. Awesome stuff.

  • I love brazilian jiu-jitsu more then cage fighting, I hope to god I dont have to give this up when im in the air force. I test for my blue belt soon

  • That was some seriously technical shit right there.... I've been grappling for about 15 years off and on and that was some VERY strategic stuff going on there... very fun to watch....

  • I like the sound!!

  • roy dean......i want to train with this guy.

  • submission wrestling is cool

  • this seams like wrestling except more physical and i dnt mean the f----- up WWE wrestling

  • much dif principles more ground less throws more faness and wrestling has very few techniques from back both grappling but dont look the same to me

  • no way wrestling has heaps of techniques you have to do it for a few years to realize ive been wrestling for 5 years and im currently number 1 in australia at 45 to 53 kilo division and when 2 wrestlers meet that are experienced technique is all you see

  • @cccgp1 I completely agree with you. People take wrestling for granted but its a fantastic martial art. BJJ may be great submissions, but wrestling can step your BJJ/sub grappling ten fold.

  • depends on the people... i would say most people are not as physical as nick diaz. he trained under cesar gracie who is known for bringing the pain with jiu-jitsu... roy dean is like a virtual opposite

  • some of those escapes are completely insane!

  • yea nick diaz is an animal off his back!

  • @tootandpoop06 easier when wearing clothes in ufc they cant do that they can grab onto each other here

  • who won

  • these guys are crazy!!!!

  • So man transitions. Thats real jiujitsu right there

  • my favorite mma fighter. was looking forward to the fight for the welter weight to bad he didnt show up for his drug test. disapointed fan

  • props, nice video. good skills and you seem very humble.

  • A damm good fight...excellent...

  • Awesome comp footage from two guys that ended up with much higher profiles than would have been guessed at the time.

  • Wow good match. Both skilled in escaping and counter moves.

  • did you see how incredible roy dean is???????????????how the hell did he lose this?

flawless movement with surprising innovative technique.

  • Well we didn't see the whole match. It really depends on who got the most points. In this clip we see good exchanges, which is probably the point.

  • What a match!

    I miss bjj.

    Fuckin' injury...

  • there brothers, nick is the older brother

  • They are brothers. Nick is a black belt in jiu jitsu and Nate is a brown belt.

  • Yeah but a brown belt under Cg is like a black belt under most

  • True. Pretty much any Gracie trained grappler is better than their actual belt.

  • brothers

  • i think Nick Diaz is fighting in UFC now, a very decent fighter.

  • Nick Diaz fights for ShoXC / EliteXC . Nate Diaz is a UFC fighter. FYI

  • And Strikeforce.

    EliteXC is out of business

  • he fights for strikeforce and hes more than decent

  • nice fight

some amazing things you can pull with gi.

    aka street.

  • good match

  • great match, you both fought really well.

  • nick diaz is a ufc fighter

  • Capt obvious...

  • Even though you lost on points, you looked more impressive than him, IMO. Hell of a match from both sides though. I'm really blown away.

  • While that was a great match from both sides (far better than I've ever looked in a competition) Diaz threw a lot of submissions out there and seemed to be threatening with a lot more (though with the video quality it was hard to tell at times who was who).

    Great match.

  • That is a very physical match.

  • That is amazing for a blue belt level. The armbar escape at 0:26 was awesome.

  • wow can't say that wasn't amazing. i actually thought it was a purple belt comp, i'll blame it on poorer video quality & fantastic grappling quality. truly good to watch

  • Great post.

  • diaz was 18 here, impressive

his JJ has gotten even better, he also subbed macaco

i wish he still did JJ events or if he does, we had some footage of that

anyway nice vid , good match

  • I like your "summary" of the match and I share your philosophy.

  • Superb rolling. The next time I am in Oregon I make it a point to stop by.

    E

  • i like the song, thats cool that you wrote it

  • Wow. You guys rolled like purple or brown belts in that match. Amazing for blues.

  • i know nick and nate diaz's dad, he goes to my mom shop.

  • that was an awesome match

  • you got a great skill set and im sure over the last 7 years has gotten better

cool you got to roll with nick, you ever persue mma? he(and you?) had to be 17 at the time right?

  • wow.. u are good. i thought u had him. were u a purple belt at the time? i cant tell

  • We were both blue belts.

  • still very good

  • I am about your seize and am struggling with holding side control because of the bottom mans bridge escape. I noticed you were swept a few times in this manner. I have started keeping my weight slightly off center towards my legs and am curious what more I can do. What have you done to adress this issue since then? Thank you for your time.

    SM

  • cross face'em real hard . keep your base real low. dont stay in side control forever cuz eventually they will escape.

  • @sublimeslimjim Transition. Go to Scarfhold, reverse scarfhold, whizzer the near arm, go North South. Jiu-Jitsi has many many dimensions - use them.

  • @uchideshi Wow, I've been a Blue belt for a while, and I don't think I'm as good as you guys were ... that was some sick Jits for BBs ... awesome job!

  • Awesome, man. Music and the grappling. You've got a lot of talent. Keep them up.

  • good stuff, like your belt comment. its no rep of skill, just rank. also whos the music by?

    thanks

  • I wrote the music. The title of the piece is "Spectrum" and it's the first track on "Sound of the Way: Music for Martial Arts," available exclusively on iTunes. If you like this song, you'll probably love the album.

  • @elgr3k0 this is all roy deans nusic, you can find it on itunes

  • I agree with the info. I'd take an exciting loss over a boring win any day!

  • oops just read the info

  • i bet that was a memorable experience what belt levels were you guys at

  • what weight class was this in?

  • 173 pounds.

  • figured. thats exactly what i weigh. man you are lucky, wish i could roll with diaz lol.

  • awesome video bro.. You have superb technique along with a genuine humility. I wish you continued success in your training and teaching endeavors. My favorite part of the video is your kimura escape. As you pointed to your coach to say" i'm okay , just waiting for the right time" :*) Too cool

  • Fuckn bad ass man 160-173.

  • whats the music in this?

  • Please read the "About This Video" section before commenting!

  • Renegade,

I do not do MMA, although many of my teammates do. I have received black belts in several other martial arts though, including Judo, Aikido, Japanese Jujutsu, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

  • hes also a mma fighter fights in all different mma leages most notibly the UFC and PRIDE FC Nick and his brother Nate are beasts definetly some of the top fighters on my list

  • woah man, u guys were blue belts in this video? that's awesome man, u guys rolled like brown belts, that's the most exciting gi jj match i've ever seen, are u a pure jj guy or are u into mma aswell?

  • Remember this always: A belt is just that. A belt. These guys probably put in countless hours of pracice and are very dedicated. A belt only states rank; it does not indicate skill.

  • yeah i know what u mean, i started bjj at 9 and i'm 17 now, ranked 2 in australia in the division above my real weight and never graded, so technically i'm a white belt too

  • thats great. keep up the good work.

  • Muy buen video... super tecnico....
