Not sure if you still monitor or not, I noticed that your third hole is smaller than the others. Can you list what diameter holes you used for each? I followed another tutorial and all holes where drilled half inch (1.3cm) in size including the back (5th) hole. I also noticed your cut at the mouth piece is much shallower, is that 45 or 30 degrees or did you just start sanding it and stopped where tone was more sensitive? Ive noticed some cuts dont take much to generate tone.
Thanks for the posting I've made two Shaks after seeing it. Can you tell me if it is easier to create a tone with a 45 degree utaguchi as compared to a 30 degree? Thanks!!
hi sound path, if you are making it with PVC, i'd adjust the length a bit more, making just before D. if it's C# now, you should be very careful not to shave off too much.. :)
hi, thank you for your comment. what do you mean by not being about to play? is it the way you blow you think or is it the way you made? could you tell me more? i have uploaded a couple of videos on how to blow shakuhachi. have you seen it? also, playing shakuhachi could take longer for some people.
you know it could be both for all i know. i am just learning about the shakuhachi, but i have seen your videos on how to play and i followed your insturctions exactly. i probably just need to keep practicing. its a great video btw

No way, I'm going to hardware store tomorow, buying pcv and making shakuhachi. I'm tired of pointless trials with cracking bamboos.
Besides PCV's waterproof ^^

My flute is in C# right now. I haven't drilled finger holes yet. Should I shave off a little material from the bottom to tune it in D?

yeah, i think so. shakuhachi is not so easy to play. for some, it takes a looooong time. ;) practice diligently and it will be fruitful! :)
