@sciroccoguy "everyone" is not "you". Only you can decide if it's not wide enough. I love mine to bits and it hardly ever leaves the camera. That said, I do own a 17-40L but it sees very little use compared to the 24-70L.
I bought a Rokinon 8mm fisheye full manual lens. I love it and the images it produces. The cost was $260 on ebay well worth the aboumt of time i use it. You can look up many review on google the lens is very sharp.
@RyanTheTuber I don't like niche lenses like fisheyes and lensbabies. Don't like the images they produce, nor do I like cost-to-usage ratio I would realize.
@Orcinus24x5 I ditched my lensbaby idea and went with a Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye lens
It's a manual-focus only lens but you barely need to focus with that kind of lens. Plus, it's build quality and IQ is so worth it. It costs as much as a 430EX II. It's Korean made.
@AttemptingToBeBusy As you can see, the hood on the 24-70 is VERY deep, and nothing even comes close to touching the front element when it's on. If I remove the hood for more compact storage, then yes, I use the lens cap. :P And yes, I have Hoya S-HMC UV filters on all my lenses.
people , i have a D90 nikon , camera , i got a 70- 300 lens and a 17 50 wide angel , im kinda new at this , so i need to understand for example a 70 300mm lens , what is the 70 stands for and what does it measure and also the 300mm ?
I do have a 24-70mm f/2.8 attach to 50d body I noticed you have the 50mm f/1.4 is it necessary to have the 50mm 1.4 when you have the 24-70? whats the benefits to have it both?
Richard8485: Many people think that the Canon 24-70 f2.8 is better than the Canon 24-105 f4 lens. For years, the 24-70 was considered the best lens that Canon makes! I have shot on both of these lenses and the image quality was slightly better on the 24-70. I chose the 24-105 because it gave me a little more reach on the telephoto end for portraits.
The 24-70mm f/2.8L is nothing short of a stellar lens. It's absolutely phenominal, and I would never give it up.
I've not used the 24-105mm f/4L IS much at all (a friend of mine has one on his 5D MkII), but the 24-70 is a better lens. Slightly sharper across the entire range, much better build quality, and I will always take an extra stop of light over image stabilization any day.
Yes, but I have actually removed the optics from it. It gives severe tunnel-vision, and pretty heavy distortion of the image. It also shrinks the size of the viewfinder too.
yesterday i was looking for an eyepiece that would enlarge the viewfinder for my 40d and 50d but i was only able to find one with 1,7x magnification which is ideal for the 40d 50d viewfinder, to make it big. There is a Nikon and a Olympus version, but some user said that the work just fine on the 20d 30d but on the 50d 40d they cant see the viewfinder corners because it is too big. I wold really like if canon make a eyepiece magnifier for xxD cameras.
I don't use it much as a walkaround lens. I much prefer the 24-70's extra reach for walking around downtown. That said, the 17-40 is an EXCELLENT piece of glass, even rivalling it's much more expensive brother the 16-35 f/2.8 for image quality and sharpness under many conditions. It's very light, and very affordable. I highly recommend it!
i really don't need the extra reach, well at least i don't think i do. i was thinking about the 17-50 tamron, but i just got in a little bit more cash so thats why i was thinking about the 17-40 canon. I think i will go with the canon 17-40 since i can afford it now, thanks, do you have any photos of the 17-40 that you took?
Man, that's some nice stuff! I'd love to upgrade to an EOS some day, but for now I have to stick with my Powershot SX1 IS and A630.
I would really like the SX1 more, had it not been for the nasty chromatic aberration. I use it for HD video more than stills. The little A630 actually takes crisper stills.
I'm thinking about getting the 24-70 for my 40D. Everyone says it's not wide enough. What do you think?

is the 24-70mm good with the 40d? and why did you get the sigma 70-200 rather then canon? nice kit
willjessel 1 year ago
@willjessel the 24-70 is good with anything! ;) I got the Sigma 70-200 rather than the Canon because it was 1/3 the cost. I only paid $575 for it.

No lens cap on the 24-70? Are you mad?!? Are you at least using a filter?

The 50mm f/1.4 is faster and better for low light situations.

Orcinus24x5: Which wrist strap are you using on the 40D? Great vid by the way!
Thanks!

I'm using the genuine Canon E1 hand strap.

are you using the eyepiece extender on the 40d

Yes, but I have actually removed the optics from it. It gives severe tunnel-vision, and pretty heavy distortion of the image. It also shrinks the size of the viewfinder too.

@Orcinus24x5 it still reduce the viewfinder size, and has the tunnel like vision enven if you remove the 2 lens inside it?
mixmaxdix 1 year ago
@mixmaxdix Nope, with the optics removed the barrel distortion goes away, and of course the image isn't reduced in size.
Orcinus24x5 1 year ago
@Orcinus24x5 but u dont get the tunnel like vision? with the optics removed?

where did you get the bag and how much did it cost?

A local camera shop, it was about $150 CAD.

Hmm, roughly $6000-$6500 CAD.

how's the sigma 70-200? sharp?
justinsyouthing 2 years ago
Not as sharp as Canon's offerings, especially wide-open, but it gets sharp when you stop down.
Orcinus24x5 2 years ago
does the 17-40 on your 40D pretty much gives a good wideangle?
vepino13 2 years ago
Yep! I used to have the EF-S 10-22mm but I sold it because it was too wide and had too much wide-angle distortion. The 17-40 is perfect for me.
Orcinus24x5 2 years ago

what's the name of the strap you have on the camera, like the single strap, i hate my neck strap, and been looking for something like that
OscarLarastudios 2 years ago
It's a Canon E1 handstrap. It requires the battery grip or a 1-series camera for the lower mounting point. I love it. :)
