I named my panda toy "mekong" because it sounds Chinese, I never heard of Mekong Delta until I bother to searched it on youtube. I can say, I have a good catch.
@azirru Mekong is the name of a river in Asia that runs from China, through Burma, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietman. The area where the river runs into the Pacific Ocean is called: the Mekong Delta. That's where this band got their name from.
They have recorded the entire 'Pictures at an Exhibition' in 1996, but I have never heard or seen them play 'The heroic gate (in the old capital of Kiev)' live.
I agree spirited.., one of the best ever, and I'd add one of the most underrated in the States. As good as any American Thrash band. I've heard they're fairly popular in Europe though. Maybe that's why they've reunited?
Yes, they made me interested in Musorgsky. They translated also 2 other pieces of Musorgsky. As far as I remember "Gnome" and "Night on Bald Mountain".
Not only those two, but the entire 'Pictures At An Exhibition' (including newly recorded versions of 'Gnomus (The Gnome) and 'The Hut on Chickens Legs (The hut of Baba Yaga))
I don't know what kind of Metal you listen to, but Mekong Delta is NO numetal. They have been around since 1986 and they are the pioneers of Technical/Progressive Thrash. So, in some way, this is OLD SCHOOL. For your information: 'The Hut of Baba Yaga' is originally a classical composition (by Mussorgski), rewritten into a thrash song!
Frank Fricke(Living Death/Mekong Delta/Sacred Chao/U.D.O.) is a guitar god. There is no one quite like him. He is the single greatest contributor, musically, to Mekong Delta, and ever since his departure from the Mekong Delta project, many many years ago, his guitar work, influence, and style, has been cloned by every other MD guitarist since; despite the fact that Ralf Hubert takes all the credit, for writing their music.
Thanks for uploading...I have 2 albums..but they are all bootleg albums..because there was no licensed album in Korea about 20 years ago...anyway, I'm really happy to see this band for the first time~!

Have they ever done a cover of "The Great Gates of Kiev?"
I'd like to see a metal version of it.

Indeed, "Pictures at an Exhibition" are fantastic, but I like it much more in performance of Emmerson, Lake & Palmer.

Na I think Uwe Baltrusch is definitely a better player. Fricke was alright though.

Their current guitarist Peter Lake is the best one they've ever had.
