I met Alexeev backstage at the World Weightlifting Championships in Gettysburg. Very impressive! Large man with small hands. Outstanding lifter. Would like transcription of the documentary.

Alexeev's best competition lift still exceeds the official best of any American by over 40 pounds---and his 256 kilo lift was done over one third of a century ago. My father's doctor once told me due to the stress placed on the heart in overhead lifting, Alexeev wouldn't make 60. But he made almost 70! He would not have traded his accomplishments and fame for a few more years. The world always needs extraordinary people like Alexeev who could've snatched more if it had been more competitive!

One of the greatest athletes of the 20th century and not well documented beyond Russian borders, Vasily broke more than 80 records, his best clean and jerk stands at 255 KG, considering the Olympic gold medalist in 2008 best clean and jerk was 258 and the silver medalist was 250, this is pretty good in today standards. Also, Vasily had most of his career training for the three lifts before the press lift was discontinued, so you can argue his numbers would have been much better
