Sorry JT. This is really godawful. It's not a song, No composition here, no improvisation. It's just ridiculously wrongful riffing. His timing is lazily late, which could be funky in the right context, but it's "old" sounding. Like he can't keep up. A legend like him should know better. Ice9329, really bad tone says nothing. I've seen him over 7 times in his prime. 3+ hour shows. This is lame. On record, the intro to Thunder Road is one of the best harmonica intros of all time.
That's the best part about Bruce's music...it's not the fanciest guitar playing (or harmonica playing), but he's able to get across with ease in almost every song what other artists spend a lifetime searching for. Long live the Boss!

When there are so many great harp players out there living on rice and beans bozos like Sprinsteen, who can't play for shit, picks up a harp and butchers the sound. What - like he can't afford to to pay a real harp player, Any other instrument and he'd pay the best musicians but when it comes to harp in the pop/rock genre, neither the public nor the performers have any appreciation for real harmonica players. Listen to the idiots screaming how great he sounds. Really, he sounds like shit.
@12gagedan you obviously know nothing about harmonica. It's a lot harder than it looks. Have you ever even heard the intro to the River? that's Bruce playing that..
@JohnTaupin Sorry bro. I know a great deal about the harmonica. I respect Bruce's songwriting, epic live shows, and legendary status as one of the greatest entertainers ever. However, unlike you, all that doesn't blind me to the dissonant, sloppy, ugly harmonica playing on this track. The River intro is cleaner, but it's rudimentary playing at best.

Mosier2 is right. For as great as Springsteen is, as an entertainer, he's really a poor harmonica player.
