I dont know if youre still into coiling (realizing this vid was posted over a year ago)but i have a few tips for ya if you want to get it going better. use more windings on youre secondary coil a 4 inch pvc tube should have about 1300 turns and a 3 inch about 1000 turns of about 22 g magnet wire. i also use a flat primary coil it seems to work alot better and i use a rotary tool (like a dremel)with a peice of teflon and 2 screws for a rotary gap it works wonderfully because its variable speed!
actually no complaints, but we are rural. we are not electrical engineers, but from what we have read, it is like the spark gap in an automotive ingition, the capactior coil is charged and the points separate and the capacitor discharges with an increased voltage through induction- google it. however, the process is somewhat different in the Tesla coil, involving resonance, I am told....
I think I understand. Everytime the spark gap fires, the circuit closes, em field surrounds primary, cuts across secondary and induces a current there. When the spark gap is open, the em field from the secondary can't induce a current back into the primary, but when the primary goes off again, it pushes the secondary again. I probably have that wrong in some way, but that is "resonance rise" as I understand it so far... I'll have to ask an engineer.
hey have you ever put two pieces of aluminum say round ones or just one you made with your hand put them in a microwave put them together but not all the way hit the cook button. you will witness plazma. it will crack that heat prof glass try it. ok vid is awsome, i don't have enough time for that now. but cool to say the least.
Finding a multimeter that tests capacitance is proving to be difficult.

When I was your age I kept getting stuck under the porch. Ha ha, but seriously...
How does the spark gap help the induction process? Had any complaints due to interfering with radio/tv signals?
