  • Very well done. It was interesting to hear the comparisons. Many of them weren't exact almost as if they were interpreted. The frog mimic was the best.

  • This is fantastic!! Wow!!

  • They could just be learning the songs too because they want to.

  • Walking at the edge of a forest in NY state near East Aurora, NY calling my cat, "here kitty, kitty, kitty!" After a short while I was listening again to see if I could hear the cat and I heard a little voice say, "kitty, kitty," then "Kitty." I was astounded and then I saw the grey cat bird hopping around in the bushes along the path. Pretty amazing !

  • Actually it sounds like a very average (typical) Catbird. They all mimic richly. They are all incredible.

  • I would think that all those other birds would think to themselves "oh this apartments taken" and not move in. So the catbird sings all the songs each night to tell them all bugger off this is mine lol

  • Amazing bird.Just had one land in my yard.Must be from the south though.

He had a southern accent and was singing "Freebird".

  • @thatxcrazyxkidxxx How terribly sad! :-(( Tears.

  • @thatxcrazyxkidxxx And my heart really hurts to hear this. Why not share? Why not listen to the beautiful song? One bird can't eat that many cherries...I'd be glad to share.

Every year when the catbirds come back and start singing, my heart thrills with joy to hear them. ... Also, you should know it's illegal to shoot them. All native U.S. birds, of which the catbird is one, are protected by law. One is not supposed to have even a feather, let alone kill them.

  • @thatxcrazyxkidxxx

What a saint. Thanks for sharing your exploits.

You'll get what's comin' to ya, some way or another, you crazy kid.

  • Love the sound of a catbird.

  • I'm blown away by this bird. He just showed up in our backyard yesterday. Singing so softly like a merwoo sound, then garbled like a human!! We had our cockatoos out there with us and he was singing along with them. Absolutely amazing!! Strange he'd be in the city..wonder what brought him here..??? London Ontario. Odd..

  • Wow, amazing! I love catbirds!

  • WOW! That is an amazing array of mimicry. Very impressive and thanks for sharing!

  • so what kind of bird i have its black and gray

  • I have one of these in my backyard as I type this...(it's what prompted me to look it up, wasn't sure what it was). I'm in Maryland.

  • If you want to hear this things 24/7, move to the country of North Carolina.

    They never shut up

  • I just saw my first catbird of the year out my back window. I was so confused the first time I heard one of their calls, years ago; they're certainly impressive vocalists. :)

  • No running rules for the catbird outbursts.

.The Brown Thrasher sticks to his couplets,The Mockingbird is a Cluniac with his "golden section" three to ones. The catbird is in the hedgerow close to us ,and as you witnessed a visitor to backcountry. This stellar performer, though, breaks ranks with his tribe.Thank You for being there.

  • I love the catbird! Hope you don't mind me sharing this on my Bugs! Buds & Birds Facebook page. There is a wealth of information here.

  • They are common back east; their mimicry is well known there.

  • I hope I get to see one of these birds this summer. In my state that's the only time they appear.

  • Supposedly the oldest known catbird lived up to 17 years

  • I imagine at least 5 years or more. I have 2 pair of catbirds that have been coming to my yard for at least 4 years in a row. They show up on my porch waiting for me to feed them. (same spot) They feed about a foot from me. If I weren't too embarrassed, I would post a video of them mimicking my name as I repeat it to them over and over. Every spring they show up and stay for the summer! My neighbors laugh hysterical listening to them say my name.

  • I have a Catbird that has come to my yard for 3 seasons, I have never seen a pair. This is so neat, almost unbelievable. I wonder how long does a catbird live for?

  • I have a Catbird that has come to my yard for 3 seasons, I have never seen a pair.

  • wow this video is so cool

  • Good Video.

What might be the purpose of mimickery?

    Just for fun?

  • Awesome what an amazing bird

  • We always had Catbirds in our bakcyard, in our old home as it was surrounded by 6 ft high hedges. Lost of cover for all kinds of birds. In our newly build home we don't have the varity of birds like we use to so I miss this particular bird songs...thanks for posting.

  • This was spectacular, I had no idea the catbirds did that. I only just photographed one a couple weeks ago here in Ontario, Canada. I must find and observe him again. Thank you

  • This is so cool! The catbird in my backyard this year is singing faster and more diverse than before. Just this morning I waslying in bed at 5 a.m. in the morning trying to pick out all of the imitations the bird was doing. You have inspired me to record it tomorrow morning so I can play it back slower to do the identifications! I really enjoyed watching this video.
