i was there the night this was filmed, i was rappin on there, we performed just before bobby, he is a realy nice guy, had time to chat with us and even performed for us in the green room,
Amazing track - Bobby is truely gifted - one of my best. Don't know how people could possibly cheer for Bon Jovi when this is going on - but Bobby takes it in his stride - perhaps he would have gone a bit bit more if it wasn't for people's rudeness, nevertheless, amazing
@McLeod54 I also always wondered why the guy in the white jacket was looking around. If I was that close to Mr. McPerlin I would not be able to look away. Oh, by the way, see you in a couple days Dan.
Is it just me being naive and newly introduced to his magic, but it seems that his long beautiful dreads lock may have held his voice and talent in, because every song that I have seen where the dreads are gone are remarkably better. Of course, there are so many vids out there that I have not seen as of yet! (Send me suggestions if you want!)
@ginnyann he didn't grow the dreads until later. He sounds better without them because he is younger. The voice ages. Check out his classical stuff if you're into that (i.e. Ave Maria, Bach Partita, etc) Also his appearance on Sesame Street is cool.
Bobby is actually one of THE best musicians in the world. But "don't worry be happy has made SO many people happy. It's not REALLY a shame. I'm glad we get to discover the rest of his beautiful surprises for ourselves.
This man is one of the greatest voice talents in the world PERIOD. He proved that the voice and our bodies are MORE than enough to make phenomenally awesome music. He should be the standard of measurement for a vocalist's versatility and creativity! A shame that he is most widely known for 'Don't Worry Be Happy'. He is so, so, SO much more!!!!
not to take anything away from the godliness of bobby... but was anyone else pissed the fuck off by that dumbass kid in the front row who wont stop looking around? jeepers!
Yeah probably some punk who is thinking people will think hes gay for looking straight ahead because it might look like he is staring at his ass.....damn kids
@schmutzgreiffer Might you explain what you mean by that? If I don' know what you are advising me to do I can't hope to do so. beyond that you really shouldn't insult those of whom you do not know.
For the first time I've seen this video and heard Bobby just few days ago...and now I can't stop watching it ! Bobby is fantastic ! I also like "I've got a feeling" available from the shortcut list on the right. Incredible!
I like his version of this titled "concert solo" better, but this is still awesome. It seems he only gets better with time. A true entertainer, and a true musician. Respect.
Probably because this is the one he did when he was a little younger, which means it's closer to when he recorded it for his album, so this probably has less split-second improvisation. Try the original on Youtube, maybe you'll like that one too.
I came back to see again this video, and I read your comment about the cheers, drzozzy, and I'm astonished ! I thought the man in white was the only artless... I would so love to see and hear Mc Ferrin in (real) concert ! Merci encore pour cette video.
This version is great! I wonder if he can still sing this way if he wanted to. Sorry I forgot the most impotatna thing- to thank you for sharing this. Did you take this video yourself?
This was taped off UK TV in the mid 80's, then spent 20 years gathering dust. It blew my mind at the time. I'm glad that other people appreciate his unique talent.
BTW did you notice that the studio audience start cheering before he had finished? This was because Bon Jovi arrived on the adjacent stage, ready to play the next song, and their fans start cheering.
@drzozzy Yeah, I remember this. I felt so sorry for him when the Bon bloody Jovi fans started up.. how rude of them. He really inspired me at the time because I was a bass singer in an acapella group. He 'showed' me that it was possible to be inventive and try different techniques of using your voice. The original 'beat boxer' if you ask me.
@drzozzy Let me get this straight, the audience clapped & cheered over the top of a fantastically good performance because a pile of poo was being swept onto an adjacent stage?
Like wow....awesome! And here he is still SO young and this is already one of his best years. Later versions of this song, as great as they are, seem to have lost his deep sonorous lower range that are obvious here. What happened?
Wanna see anybody do this nowadays, no happen I think!!, Yeah he rocks!!Always loved this one. Some years before this beatbox started but that is a style to learn/master and you can learn/copy the basics from others and later create your own sound, but what bobby does.. That´s unique like no other.
No dissrespect to Human Beatbox as this is an Art as well and big respect to those who master this art!!
Check out MusFlashTV on Sky 375. They do late night 'spotlight' shows which have like loads of acoustic artists and poets and beatboxers. I think its the closest thing you will get to this nowadays!
Bobby was Bobby WAY before "Don't worry be happy". If you've ever been to one of his concerts, you'd know that he pokes fun...and that's what that song was. He's amazing live. Nothing compares to him. His talent is beyond comprehension to me.
