  • Wow! fascinating and (possibly) rare video tape from the 80's! I was born in '91 and I love freestyle!

  • this is the BEST! I feel like a kid again, to my ungrateful rotten boys who have all thier ipods, playstations, DSI 3ds and IMAX movies, see what mommy had, and we loved it and appreciated it. Thank you for sharing this, this made my day better. I will make my kids watch this so when they complain again, they can remember.

  • I LOVE this! THANK YOU!

  • Thank you!! Next best thing to being there. Such a great jam.

  • Yeah. This was refreshing to see. I use to love this song. Actually, I still love the song. It is so cool that you got to see Sweet Sensation live. Very cool

  • Everybody always apologizes for the quality of their vintage videos. My god, I'm just glad you had a camera. Thank YOU!!! Thank you for being there, and perserving htis memory, not knowing that years later you could post it on here. I really only use Youtube to find old videos. This is better than any music video or tv performance of the time. THIS REALLY HAPPENED!!! Thank you. I'm only 24 y ears old and I feel like I'm time traveling. (and fuck deputydog857)

  • learn how to spell. Deputydingdong.

  • Hit #23 in Billboard. God bless!

  • This was the jam back in the day.

  • my friend is the niece of the one with the blond hair .

  • nevawrong sorry but you are they are bi-racial and Latina, but so what who cares!

Have you ever heard of angela bofill she is Latina but, very popular with African-Americans because they are singing our music and sound which his done by every race! Look at Elvis, Rod Stewart, Ma Donna.........and soooooooo. many more! But again who cares when the music is good it's just good. This was my time and era. I went to see so many people live including the late great M.J.!

  • thanks to playback it's kinda cool. anyway, one of the greatest dance tracks these days

  • that one dude in the crowd sounds like a fucking psycho. otherwise, cool vid, feels like you're there. these freestyle chicks are the hottest ever.

  • What did you expect from a 20yr old original VHS tape recording. I'm lucky I was able to preserve this much. But I will let people know that it skips a lil in the video. But if they don't like...Don't watch it.

  • @darksideny People who complain about quality on YouTube are completely idiotic. The fact that this even EXISTS is why it's of interest.

  • @Deputydog857 These are classic moments in freestyle history. I am grateful that DSNY posts these vids: I enjoy them, regardless of quality.

  • @Deputydog857 These are classic moments in freestyle history. I am grateful for DSNY posting all of his vids. Regardless of quality, many of us are thrilled to view these!!!

  • @Deputydog857 LOL@ greatest genre of music

  • WHAT YALL KNOW BOUT SPANISH R&B?

2 Bad freestyle started half ass'in hip-hop into it.

WOW!!! come to think of it, Freestyle invented rappin and Bullshit b.k.a R&B latin style. lmao!

To bad MC's like Pun wasn't around to add that flow to Freestyle back in the day, those suck a duck MC's were wack as hell.

  • Hot 103 was ruff, rugged & raw back then.

DAMN!! THE late 80's was the shit.

Freestyle/CLUB, HOUSE/CLUB, Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal , even Top 40 radio was SLAMM'IN . Everybody's musical culture was off the HOOK back in the day. =(

  • This is a great video and wish there were more of them on youtube. Betty has a great voice.

  • Sweet Sensation is still my favorite freestyle artists that I ever seen. Thanks darksideny for having this freestyle flashback clip because HOT 103 was the best radio station that I ever listen to & this footage was located in Queens, NYC. I love Sweet Sensation alot & I do have the 12 inch of "Hooked On You" including the Diamond Dub Mix. Freestyle music remains forever.

  • nobody listen to envogue or destiny child, so what if they sold more? underground always stays real ,F**k all commercial crap music,, music for the mass . long live underground, where it always stays real.

  • Saw them at Summer Jam in Bay Area back in late 80s. Great performers

  • I remember their BRILLIANT performance at Spectrum in Broolyn, NY, back in the '80s -- We didn't want them to stop singing...it was Sweet Sensation, Covergirls, Nocera, Judy Torres and Lydia Lee Love....What a night I'll never forget....YES!!!

  • Was this in 1988 ???????

  • it seems like BLACK FEMALE singing groups are the only ones who does really well in the music business in america, & a few WHITE FEMALE groups.

i never really seen a LATINA FEMALE singing group that really gained international fame & celebrity status for some reason.

    i wonder why?

SWEET SENSATION was only really known by LATINOS, & they had a very short carreer also.

  • groups like sweet sensation, cover girls, gained some international fame but i think they would have done better if they had better management/promotion. Good example is expose (while only one girl was latina their sound was still miami and had latin influence). Being that they were on Arista records, i feel they had better production and promotion. Most of these acts come and go - i mean look at en vogue and even destiny's child where are they now?

  • yeah, but compare the celebrity status & international fame of SWEET SENATION, to DESTINY CHILD & ENVOGUE, its not even close.

DESTINY'S CHILD & ENVOGE went multy platinum, but SWEET SENSATION didnt even go gold.

in the history of female singing groups, its the BLACK FEMALE singing groups that seems to be the most known, popular, & successful.

it goes all the way back in the 1960's when the SUPREMES were hot, but i'm yet to see a LATINA singing group to gain international fame and success.

  • And so what , let me guess your black right? For some reason you seem to be haten and when it comes to us latinas there always seem to be haten on us thats easy to see when one of us gets with a black man if looks could kill we all would be dead! we cant help that your men love us and alot of us are hot we come with light skin and colored eyes to as chocolate as a black girl without needing the extentions and hair pieces....

  • lol, im not hatin shorty, im just stating a fact, & thru out the years there has'nt been many latina singing groups that made it to international fame like black women. & i am attracted to LATINAS, but im also attracted to BLACK, WHITE, ASIAN, ARMENIAN, WEST INDIAN, & BRAZILIAN women as well.

so i hope u dont think that LATINAS are the only people who has a lot of pretty women in it, lol, because just know that every race & nationality has beautiful women it it, & i had & love them all, : )

  • check your info! on expose they were the only female group from 80's to destinys child to have 7 top 10 hits from there first album.

  • like who???

  • To nevawrong: Cover Girls had international fame too, they had a pretty lenghthy career, and they were Latinas.

  • its funny that you say they were LATINAS,

but there names were Angel Sabater, Caroline Jackson and Sunshine Wright, lol

those are not your average HISPANIC names, especially the "JACKSON" name, that is mostly a BLACK person's last name.

so explain to me why the COVER GIRLS dont have the typical HISPANIC last name?, if they suppose to be LATINAs ?, lol

  • Nevawrong ,U can be Latina or better yet, hispanic & not have a Spanish last name. I know many hispanics who are half white or black who took the nonspanish name, but still are Latino. And the name Angel Sabater is a VERY Spanish name, how did u not notice that? She's Dominican & Puerto Rican. Caroline& Sunshine couldve been Latina or BIracial. Either way most of the Cover Girls were Latina. There were other members that replaced them through the years who were Latinas. Escalera, Munoz, Nieves.

  • So your suppose to have a certain Surname in order to belong to a race? You need to pick up some books, because African Americans surnames aren't really their true lineage names and this is true with other races.

  • sweet sensation are hispanic......so are the cover girls..the lead singer of the cover girls the lil short one is a dominican

  • the governor of new mexico is hispanic..and his name is bill richardson...sweet sensation are hispanic..the cover girls are also hispanic..the lead singer oif the cover girls the little on is a dominican

  • Why are they guys starting all the chants? They are annoying too.

  • Damnmn they were Great performers even back then... I sw them at Foxes once too.. They put on a VERY GOOD show...

  • Awesome group. They really brought down the house back in 1987. In NYC
