Hey folks,no need to argue. We germans are celtic too.I am born and raised in a small celtic german town called Gernsheim and i am proud to have celtic ancestors.
I was born in the US, live in Mexico and always grew up with Scottish Music and Bagpipes. Here in Mexico there's a Band called Batallon de San Patricio Bagpipes and Drums who have gone to several tattoos in Scotland.
This tune is one of my favorite and and this video is just Fantastic!!!
.for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
I have heard that tune many times but that has to be the best version and video of it i have seen yet. Its a beautiful tune and sounds amazing on the pipes!!
Was the song my wife and walked out to at our wedding thanks neiljohn , every time we hear this it brings a tear to our eyes , the 4 sma minded folk that did not like this you have obviously not heard or understood Scottish culture , this is one of the most amazing songs

The song is awesome btw
I'm English but the sound of all those bagpipes together made my blood run cold and brought tears to my eyes. Bagpipes are very loud and rightly deserve to be :') All in tune & all in time... PERFECTION!!
My very favorite marching piece that the Pipes and Drums of all sizes and shapes play - we have our own locals here who march into Church every First Sunday of the year playing this!
Our younger daughter used this at her wedding via a super quality CD. The traditional beginning with a lone piper joined by the full band is not to be missed. Thrilled to see it done live at the huge annual Virginia International Military Tattoo.
@thegoodseed1 Well, if the marching, the drums and the pipes are out of sync.. Wouldn't it be more probable that it's just the video that's a little out of sync? :P I doubt they would fake things like this.
@Snobollskrieg I know....I was only joking. My point was that despite the beautiful music one person could only notice a little bit of sync-problems!!
This song brings tears to my eyes. It makes me proud to be one part Scottish/German I didnt get into my heritage until I got my first sheltie. And participated in Scottish games and got to travel.
I have watched this video so many times I think I am developing a crush on most of these pipers-something about their nimble fingers that are so long and thick...yikes how embarassing to admit that I would love to look under those kilts. It was the picture of the lone piper that drew me to the video at first, now it's the beautiful melody and pure Celtic lust.
the one thing most of you won't know is the following fact.
Highland Cathedral is not a scottish, or even british piece of music. It is a german piece of music, due to the fact, that the two composers were from germany.
They just wrote it for the highlands.
But nevertheless it is an outstanding beautiful piece of music.
I always cry when I hear bagpipes. My gran comes in with bagpipes from scotland every time I call her. They must have a hell of a Band in Heaven. Every time I have lost someone in any life they always play the bagpipes....
As a former Green Howard worked with lots of scottish regiments, and there great music never failed to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
Played at my son,s funeral. The second hymm, Jamie Squires aged 26 8/9/82 - 8/4/09. R I P My handsome angel. Always remembered never forgot. MUM. XXXX

My father was born in Edinburgh but lived most of his life in Nottinhamshire. We played this piece at his funeral as his flag draped coffin entered, It is something I will never forget.
I went to a boarding school in Scotland for a year. The School's pipe band played it pretty much the same way in the memorial Hall on my last day there. Everytime I hear it, I have to remember that day and its hard not to start crying, cause it creates so much atmosphere. GREAT TUNE. The three English people who dislike this should just accept that it is a great piece of music!
Ok, but why the hell there are pop beats from the second minute? Really, why would ANYONE need pop beats in the song for bagpipes and drums? They almost always destroy everything.
Some sounds maybe copied from 'Gags for laughs, etc'. But I still believe the composer(s) have done an okay job. C'mon you Scots pipers, you have to beat this one. Don't let the Gerries beat you.
This version allways makes me cry because its so beautyfull ... I hope that i can go to scotland and see that amazing country someday ... greetings from denmark :)
this tune is so emotional im british mum was scottish and my partner caroline when we meet told me her daugther Marie wrote a poem abt dunblane killings i love this tune reminds me of mum and my happy childhood in gods country

@1942dandy at our final school assembly, funny enough also in 2000, they played the Highland cathedral along with the organ. You just do not get it better than that. As soon as the organ joins the pipes, it moves something deep inside you. It left every single boy with tears running down his cheeks. I just wish I could find a copy accompanied by an organ....

as you lay your da to rest - god sing his soul to heaven. my own left his own house to the tune o' the pipes - i saw to it. dearly loved, deeply missed - walk with God, daddy. I feel for your loss.
I have commented on this video before, I have come back to it this evening as my father has just passed away tonight, we lived just south of here and my english prof was the organist at Dunblane Cathedral for many years. I am bawlin ma eeen oot right noo and I dont know if any of this is viewable as i cannot read it, but thanks with all my heart to altiedhel for posting this. Hypnotic piece of music..I've played this video over and over again,Intend to record onto a CD and play next time I'm driving though Glencoe!!..pulls at the strings of the heart!!!...Proud Scot!!!
I think that this song is very good about thinkingon whem, who died in the war that many thousand people, which don´t know the killed men and women, can live in freedom
