@Giggity230 you have no idea, I repeat no idea. that is as close to the ACDC sound that I have heard and I would know!! Note very little gain in Malcoms sound a little more gain in the Angus sound. and thats the way I have heard it since around 1975/76
Hahaha...wow, could be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. You DO realize that Gretsch only went to double-cut in '61 because they were following Gibson's lead? Double-cut Gretsch's are generally considered to be "less desireable" than the single's...the later 60's-70's were some pretty crappy times. A "real" Jet is single-cut my friend...Malcolm at least made the double somewhat tolerable! :)
Hmmm..because Malcolm played one of the ugliest guitars ever made, that makes liking it "individual"?? Well ok then...that's one way of looking at it! :) I'll go back to following the "crowed" (sic) and play my run-of-the-mill '60 Jet...I feel so ashamed I just might have to take a hacksaw to the crowd-following upper bout of my guitar so I can be individual again.
@PeterPug007 i think BionicSammich is right. we all have the same opinion and what not. also the double cut guitars are a lot nicer in my opinion buddy
Ok, so I go out to grab a quick beer and I return to a Kafkaesque world where double-cut Jets are "sexy" and my lack of hacksaw-knowledge is an abomination of God ...what did I drink? :)
Funny how someone can say "single cut piece of shit...not a real jet firebird" and I'm the one who gets attacked??
Would I turn down a double-cut Jet with Filter'Trons...not on your life.
Hahaha...my opinion is no greater than anyone elses, true...although it is the correct one. lol
would be nice as hell to obtain an all original Gretsch that Malcolm used and modify it in the same way he did in the 70s to , same colour, same specs , same year he used and so on, gotta love those Gretsch's :D
Thus one with the space control bridge is a Firebird with TV Jones Filtertrons. The Power Jet Firebird has a Nasville style bridge (better adjustment for intonation) and TV Jones PowerTron pickups with a little more bite than the FilterTrons. This one is also a hardtail with out the Bigsby. The Power Jet Firebird with Bigsby come with locking tuners, the hardtails do not. Either way - they are not Tele's being much lighter with body chambering and frig'in rock out!
the main differance between a Jet Firebird (red) and a G6128T is the colour a 6128T is usually Black (the T stands for Tremelo) however can be green as well (non filtertron) ... but as long as you have filtertrons or TV Jones style filtertrons it will sound Grand.
@Landerspromo Thanks. No wonder. I do love its open sustain. Do chambered and semi hollow mean the same thing? (Now that Im sure is a stupid question...:) )
I had one of these Power Jet Firebirds two years ago. Probably the BEST sounding guitar I have ever owned. TV Jones pickups, to me, have no peer. Every guitar I have heard them in just gives it the RIGHT sound, suitable for any kind of music. This was a good test combo, they show what they can do when hooked up to a great amp like this Marshall. The only complaint I had about mine is that the neck was a wee bit too thin, and the fret ends needed better dressing, they were kind of rough.
nah, i've played guitars with NO fret markers, it don't matter. People think they'll have trouble with it, but really you mostly use the dots on the side of the neck, not the actual face of the fretboard.
hey man i have the 100DFX and found a good AC/DC tone. try this- On the Overdrive channel: Gain 4, Bass 7, Middle 7, Treble 7, Contour 3, OD channel volume 8
what are those unique gretsch pick-ups like? can some1 give me a brief description telling me the difference between them and, say, a Fender Strat or a Les Paul?
I love that tone, I wish I had the money to buy that equipment (or at least it would be really cool to try it but here in Seville, in Spain, music stores don't have Gretschs, lol)

@44eelz They don't make the firebird in doublecut, but they do the duo jet in black which is double cut, it is pretty similar to the firebird.

the filtertrons have more top end 'sparkle' than gibson-style humbuckers, they sound a bit less fat. it's a good sound, but not for everyone
