I love how all these people that do the 0-60 videos of their car say "60!!!", while we can clearly see where the needle is on the speedometer. People must think youtube is a video site for the vision-impaired. Like we're watching the videos in braille or something.
@unssnu100 A lot of factors come into play, top speed isn't just about Horsepower and Torque it's about gear ratios, aerodynamics, weight, and rims/tires as well. A GTI being a car with Forced Induction and having a low enough final drive ratio can hit 150mph with 200HP, but it'll take it FOREVER to get there. Just because a car tops out earlier doesn't mean it isn't capable of going any faster, it's limited by it's gears.
Autos would give you more consistent times from 0-60 and the 1/4 mile, but the manual would give you the faster time by about .1 to .2 from 0-60 and the 1/4 mile. So if you raced an auto and manual in the the 1/4 mile 100 times, the auto would win more than 50% of the time, but the manual would give you the fastest overall time.
You could say it would depend on the driver. A person that is an excellent manual driver could beat an avg auto driver with all things being equal. The manuals usually have a little more hp/tq because of less parasitic drag. Autos loose about 18 to 20% and manuals 10-15%., but autos are a little easier to race on a drag strip.
Lol wrong..Automatic transmission in mustang is alot faster then anyone could go manual watch stock vs stock videos..and read up facts on transmission...You said you dont know shit about trannies so how do you know any facts?
i meant i don't know much on how they work, partswise. Yet facts are that manuals are better on gas, put more power to the ground, and are more durable. There's a lot more to trannies than shift time idiot
@feeblemind manual transmissions can shift just as fast, i have my shifts down to about the same time as the auto on the mustangs, back when our cars were stock my friend raced my 6 in his which was an auto, i dropped into gears a lot faster than his auto did, its all up to the driver skill, this is stock for stock though
Now that I am alone.....A stock GT Auto Vs. a stock GT Stick...Stick wins easily if the driver has half a brain, for reasons that I should not have to describe to a person who know any thing about cars...Thanks :)
every video with a mustang in it u run around and comment that ur cooper is better and ford sucks... ur almost annoying.. no no u are.. anyway u pretty much suck cock, alright?
kinda sad that 1yr later i can read ur comments & honestly just laugh at ur immaturity & stupidity.
but still 2 this day, i cant figure out why ppl waste time dissing cars that they wish they could own. is it really that much of a jealousy issue?
they talk so much shit, yet they are the ones that are taking pix of our Stangs when they drive by or are sitting at a light. ppl take vidz of mine cuz of the X-Charger's presence.
im not anti american, im pro american actually, and i drive an acura rsx a japanese car but guess what my japanese car was manufactured by americas in the USA, most Fords are made in Europe, not in America, learn your facts close minded ford lover, oh and my lil 2.0 4 banger would leave that stang in the dust
They did not start accelerating until 2 seconds into the video, and the video is seven seconds long. You do the math. At any rate, watching a video and counting is hardly accurate.
u have a great looking and very nice car and a car i would love to own... (im just a young guy man i dont make enough money for something like that) hating on ur car is not what im doing.. sendin u straight up facts is.. u dont get the mileage u are talking about... at best here it is... Make: Chevrolet
Model: Corvette C6
Gas Mileage: City: 19 MPG / Hwy: 28 MPG
Thats prettu dam good too except for one little detail... and here that is: Fuel: 93 octane.. mustangs can take some straight 87
if i put 93 octane into my car i would increase my mileage and add some horses as well.. however the money i save in gas and the money u spend extra.. the way gas is.. i win.. yes u got 400 hp and yes thats insanely impressive.. but ur forgetting.. u spend about 20 grande more on a car... last time i checked 20 thousand dollars... is a good amount of money... and a 400 hp monster... monster not a good word.. its beastly but theres a lot more cars that could leave it in the dust.. but u still own
a very mean machine! so please dont get me wrong ur car.. A++++++ across the board! uncle's got a zo6.. crazy mustang man but he throws fuel in it that cost $4.00 a gallon.. so even if he got 10 miles better then me to the gallon it wouldnt make a difference.. i pay 30 cents less then him ya know what im saying? anyway great talking but u see the facts below and those dont lie. later dude
u really shouldent be pounding the throttle like that till at least 500 miles.. it will shorten the life of your engine by alot. i have alot of experience with mustangs and gto's my dad owns a pontiac ford dealership... i love the 2007 gt's though
acually its ok to run it hard.... for one those piston rings are already set... 2 the car is under warrenty lol.... my friend blew his 07 up with 7 psi of boost lol... he has weiscos and manley rods now... so hes at about a high to mid 11's in the 1/4... but my civic still beats him.. lol dont get me wrong i love his car... and he loves mine too.. but american cars are not built as well as jap cars... a stock gt is in the 14's a stock 4 banger b18 is in the 14's and will beat a gt
Stock 05' + model GT's are 13 second cars stock. I ran a 13.7 bone stock in mine. GOOGLE the 05' Mustang and see, 0-60 is 5.1 sec and 1/4 mile is about 13.6 stock. The older 5.0's ran 14's stock, not the new ones. The new GT's are pretty darn quick out of the box.
The problems that go fast straight but bends are merde total and then we eropei itagliani use maccche with up to 6 cylinders inveci vio them from the USA used machines displacement of 6.0 4.0 because you what little petrol
you shouldnt be runnin ur car that hard so early if it only has 300 miles on it u gotta break it in a little...thats the same color backlight i use i got a 2007 black mustang GT
a fucking veyron are u kidding me????!! omfg their like riding in a fucking tank for one 2 over 1mill for a stang gt for 25k yea the stang might top out at 150 STOCK but why the fuck do you need to run at 253 mph where u gonnna do it at? not anywhere in america i can tell you that and to most ppl the looks of a good body kit on a stang beats the hell outta that car
You bitch ass english fucks. Go brush your nasty ass teeth. Why are you watching an american car anways? I guess you like having two queens..the old ugly one and your b/f
Alright, I'm American, live near NYC, and I even think that was pathetic. All you did was confirm that Mustangs suck and then talk about stereotypical British shit, most of which makes no sense anyway. It's a fucking Mustang GT. The car goes for about 30 grand. It's not the fastest thing out there. They're right. You want to be right, talk about Shelby's, not gays and bad hygiene. We're talking about cars. You're being retarded.
That was funny. In no way shape or form did I say anything bad or concur to something being bad against a mustang. You lose on that one. Please explain how I did. So you have a thing for the Shelby and nothing else? You're an idiot.
Im English and I like your comment because far from offending me in any way it merely demonstrates a severe lack of understanding on your part as your fellow countryman sfxepsilon says.
So basically, I dont even need to make fun of you.. your doing that all by yourself. Sweet.
This is not a bash I just thought I'd add that a Mustang Gts top speed is 143 drag limited. And none of the real performance (sorry V6 owners, Im talkin bout the 8s) sports cars have ever been electronically limited, except the 02-03 Cobra limited to 155. That includes Vetts, Stangs, Camaros, & Vipers. The sedans are another story, I rememer when a family friend got a 04 Impala, we got put our belts on and set out to do the dash, IT STOPPED AT 109!! We hardly had to leave town to do that.
They do have wank top speeds nobcheese. My facts are exactly right.
A Mustang 4.0 V6 does 120mph. Pretty fucking lame for a 4.0. Ok it gets their fast but most 7 seat cars are faster than that.
All the Mustangs, TransAms, Firebirds etc infact pretty much all muscle cars were never really designed to go fast, they were designed to accelerate quickly over about a quarter of a mile.
Nope thicky. It doesnt. The 2007 V6 is limited to something like 115mph... for a 4 litre!??! That is a WANK top speed.
Mustangs have limited speeds because there are numerous reports of hoses blowing and the engine being starved of fuel at high speeds, which is dangerous.
The Mustang v6 is limited to 112 mph by Ford. Most American cars are limited to around 105-110 mph. Unreal. US cars have to remove those stupid limiters. Ford Fusion V6 112 mph. Hyundai Sonata V6 147 mph.
"Nope thicky. It doesnt. The 2007 V6 is limited to something like 115mph... for a 4 litre!??! That is a WANK top speed."
American cars are electronically speed limited for legal reasons. There are plenty of Vettes, Vipers, and Mustangs in Germany that have the limiters disabled and can hang with any Ferrari while costing 100g's less.
What are those legal reasons then? You cant speed at 125mph but you can at 115mph?? I think you mean 'safety reasons' as I suggest.
Many European cars are limited to 155mph. I wonder why American cars with their huge engines are often slower than tiny European hairdryer powered superminis. Seems very wasteful.
The BMW M5 touring ("stationwaggon") does over 200mph without its limiter. Also, in Europe a Porsche 911 is cheaper than a Corvette...
It's legal reasons, primarily. MoCo's in this country need to protect themselves from litigation. If you're not an American and don't have experience with our legal system, then you're not really going to understand this.
Regardless, you're missing the point. The limiter is electronic and any tuner can remove it. So American cars aren't really any "slower" than Euro cars.
I think you know this already. Sounds like you're just being a hater.
Either you dont understand or are deliberately being obtuse. It is no more illegal doing 116mph than it is 115mph.
Logically you are saying Americans may sue the car company for making a car that is too fast and dangerous for them to drive. To avoid this the manufacturers limit the top speed... We dont have extreme nannying in Europe, I rest my case!
You still miss the point. It's not the fault of the American Car that it is speed limited. You are bashing the vehicle for something that is to be blamed on our legal system, not the machine.
This is simple to understand. Your chances of surviving an accident at 115mph are about 100 times greater than surviving the same crash at 155mph. You need to understand the forces involved here and the wrongful death suits that can follow.
So stop bashing the cars and drop your silly little rant.
Please read my existing comments properly you might learn something.
I have never "bashed" your wonderous "American Car" im not interested. Bigger mess at 155mph? no shit Sherlock..
You have taken issue with MY point which was this: WHY BOTHER HAVING SUCH A LARGE ENGINE WHEN THE SPEED WILL BE VERY LIMITED? You might as well have a 2.0ltr 4cylinder and save money/petrol/weight/space etc.. GET IT YET?
Its like bashing your head against a brick wall it really is....
"WHY BOTHER HAVING SUCH A LARGE ENGINE WHEN THE SPEED WILL BE VERY LIMITED?"
Because we Americans don't really give a shit about top speed so much. We car about 0-60 and 0-100 times because there's no place in the US to drive as fast as you want. We drag race here. End of story, now STFU about it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
there is a reason American cars have large engines. if you have the same horse power and half of the pistons you are putting a lot of stress on the motor. This is why you still see american muscle cars still running tough from the 50's and up, while the older european cars are all in junk yards because they cost so much to fix and they are always broke
Just to add... As you well know different Mustangs are limited to different speeds.
There is no blanket speed limiter.
It is NOT a legal requirement for US car companies to limit the speed of their cars. It must be either a social or technical reason (eg. they explode at high speed, or Americans dont want to/cant/dont go that fast).
"It is NOT a legal requirement for US car companies to limit the speed of their cars"
I never said it was, dumbass. Companies wish to protect themselves against litigation. It's a self imposed restriction. If you don't understand this, you're just plain stupid.
Cars are usually limited because of the tires that American auto makers put on them. usually an S or T rated tire, S are safe up to 112MPH T 118MPH just recently have they started using W, V and H rated rubber on their passenger cars. V up to 149MPH W something like 160 and H 130MPH. Look at GM new V8 buicks impalas and grand prix do over 150 mph flat out.
Sorry but the Veyron rips any American car, infact all other cars. It will already do 0-60mph in 2.45 secs all day. Imagine if you turned up the boost on its 4 turbos.
I remind you its top speed of 253mph is limited and that you can stamp on the brakes from that speed, take your hands off the wheel and you will come to a stop, dead straight, in 10 seconds.
dude why are u acting like a complete dumb ass no joke. look at wat u just wrote.
4.6L V8 putting out 300 is not that impressive compared to the 4.0 putting out 210.
lets take a better look at it. thats thats about 600cc more n ONLY 90hp apart, not impressive. keep in mind the stricter exhaust/etc on the 4.0. open up the exhaust, and add less restrictive intake, plus a less restrictive tune. and ur on about the same HP level.
Hey firstly let me thank you for bringing me back to this thread JT, it's nice to hark back a year or 2.
However I feel I should explain that my whole point is not that the mustang V8 is more powerful than the V6 (although granted the V8 seems more efficient), but that BOTH engines are very large yet make hardly any power relatively speaking.
A Honda Civic Type R makes 200bhp with only 2 litres and 4 cylinders how come a mustang needs 2 more cylinders and 2 more litres just for an extra 10bhp?
having a bigger engine really isnt all about horsepower nowadays, thats the common misunderstanding. the bigger the engine, the more TORQUE it can put out. thats wat its all about nowadays. u can do everything possible to squeeze as much HP out of a little engine like the 4cyl's. and it wont mean anything special. its the powerband that will be stretched. thats why they are higher revving engines.
the 4.0l/4.6 are more about TORQUE. thats wat makes them "fast". its about the engine's potential
see ur following under the category of those with the "common" misunderstanding.
its NOT about top speed, nor did i say it was, i said Torque is wat makes them "FAST". notice the quotation marks. when ppl say they want sumthing fast, they are not talking about Top speed they are talking about quickness. this is wat torque is. its the pushing force.
ur example of a bus is inaccurate but still sumwat accurate. the reason it cant go very fast is because of how heavy it is, which needs a lot of TQ
No you idiot. I started this thread and IT WAS ABOUT TOP SPEED, end of story.
You clearly do not understand what torque is. My example of a bus is a perfect example. You can also use a truck if you like, they both need high torque in order to move such heavy weight.
and again u fucking contradict urself. damn ur stupid. now ur talking about trucks? why do they need high torque ratings???? cuz they weigh a lot. and are going to be pulling things. get a 6 ton truck/bus and put 85ft lbs of torque in it. wats going to happen?
that truck/bus aint goin anywhere. it'll accelerate like a fuckin snail. now put 2000ft lbs of torque, they are going to accelerate like a fuckin muscle car. hello muscle car = high HP/Torque monsters. cuz they r pullin their weight w/ TQ
Yes, anything heavy will need more torque otherwise when you get to a hill the engine will not be able to maintain it's power and will die.
Muscle cars are heavy, they have high torque partly to shift that weight and partly because it suits their relaxed 'pull in any gear' driving style. By contrast you have to rev the nuts off a Honda Civic to go fast, but in terms of efficiency the Honda wins hands down.
the best way i could explain it is taking 2 cars, 1 has 300hp and 200ft lbs tq, the other, 200hp and 300ft lbs tq. both weigh the exact same amount. which one is "faster" (quickness)? the one with the higher tq rating. which has the HIGHER TOP SPEED, the one with higher HP.
this is why the Chrysler Conquest is a very enjoyable car to drive. it's low hp is easily overlooked because of it's 230Ft lbs of torque. one of the highest ratings available for a stock 4cyl engine.
No you're totally wrong. You're confusing gear ratios and top speed with torque and power outputs. Using your example the 300hp car would both accelerate faster and have a higher top speed.
I've never heard of a Chrysler Conquest but it appears to be the American name for the Mitsubishi Starion. It had a TURBOCHARGED 4 cylinder engine which is why it has lots of torque. All turbo/supercharged cars have lots of torque, and anyway, you're talking about a Japanese car....
ok since u called me an idiot. no need for being nice, ok fuckin moron. let me use wat u said.
a bus has lots of torque which means CUZ IT PULLS A LOT OF WEIGHT. Ok SUBTRACT THA FUCKIN WEIGHT. IF A BUS WEIGHED LIKE 1K LBS, THEN WAT!?!
IT'D BE QUICK AS HELL CUZ OF THE TORQUE!!!
now listen if ur that incompetent enough to not understand that then i pity u. i took exactly wat u said and gave u a "wat if" about the weight of the bus. how much torque & the weight of the vehicle is wat decides Acc.
Well, you called me a dumbass, besides, you are an idiot, and you do not understand what torque is.
In that scenario the horsepower and gearing of the bus would roughly determine it's top speed AND it's 'quickness'. If a bus weighed 1000lbs it would be quick because it would have a good POWER to weight ratio NOT because of the torque.
Torque is a measure of how well an engine can maintain it's horsepower. Lots of torque DOES NOT necessarily mean something will be quick or fast.
wrong... horsepower is calculated off of torque. its not the other way around. like legend caroll shelby said.. "horsepower sells cars, torque wins races"
top speed? this isnt the salt flats man. top speed doesnt mean anything in racing. torque wins races. thats why top fuel dragsters are ALL v8s cuz of torque. you want torque, torque breaks shit and moves it. pro racers talk about torque not horsepower. so throw horsepower away and go for torque!
"Top speed doesn't mean anything in racing" - That's just wrong, I've explained everything already, re-read the thread and you'll see what MY point is.
Also, F1 is about horsepower and F1 cars are the fastest cars in the racing world by miles. They have a 2.4 litre V8 producing 800 hp....
Apparently the '05 mustangs had driveshafts that failed over 120mph.... info like that explains why the top speeds of these American huge engined cars are so low compared to the rest of the world.
but youre also talking about cars that weigh 620kgs and have a 19000rpm redline. they also use a 3.0L V10 according to the formula regulation website. they top out at 220mph. picture this: caroll shelby built the 1966 GT-40 Mark II weighing in at 1216kgs making 485hp and 475lb-ft of torque with a 6200 rpm redline with a 4 speed manual. it had a top speed of 213mph. the car won 4 years in a row and in 1966 placed 1st 2nd and 3rd in the lemans. its a 6997 cc V8 motor.
I mentioned F1 because you mentioned top fuel dragsters.
You're wrong again, F1 cars use a V8, they stopped using the V10s way back in 2006, and FYI a Honda F1 car hit 258 mph in the Mojave desert in 2006.
You're also wrong about the GT-40. It was designed and built in England by three British men NOT Caroll Shelby, and it won Le Mans in 1966 being driven by men from England and New Zealand. So it's not really an American car, it was just financed by Henry Ford.
having more torque reduces the rpm band allowing more power to be created quicker. if the formula cars had say 500lb-ft of torque compared to the 200lb-ft the rpm band wouldnt need 19000 rpms to get going. see what im saying? im not saying you dont know anything or youre completely wrong, but you seem to be underestimating the extreme value of torque.
The problem is you and others are overestimating the importance of torque and underestimating the importance of horsepower.
My Formula 1 example shows how unimportant torque is for them, and seeing as F1 cars are the fastest track cars in the world by miles it's an important fact. If for example you gave an F1 car 200 hp and 800 lb/ft of torque (swapped them around) it would only be able to do about 130 mph and consequently only achieve very slow laptimes.
@Energonorama horsepower is just a mathematical number derived from the torque-RPM ratio. what matters for formula one is how fast they can spin the engines, making torque at a higher RPM which we call horsepower
@dlinecg No, horsepower makes an F1 car fast, torque makes the cars a bit more 'drivable', helps them pull out of turns under load.
If you view all the comments you'll see I explained the power - torque relationship (including formulae) here last year and the year before that, but hey it's nice to be drawn back to the same clip year on year, one of these days someone will understand.
your backwards hp is a measure over time so that would be acceleration your top speed would be more related to torque because of the amount of drag on the car you would need more of a pushing force(TQ) to over come it.
Rockerdude, check your information before you blabber your panties off.
The 2005+ GTs are FASTER with the automatic transmission; this has been proved by magazines, test strip vidoes, etc. You're basing the argument on the time-tested fact that manuals are USUALLY faster than autos....but NOT in this case.
NASCAR?? LOL, that's not the fastest racing, bud.
The fastest racing cars don't use stick shifts. Go find an NHRA stick shift. Or a LeMans stick shift. Or an Indy 500 stick shift. You won't find them because they don't exist.
I know for a fact that a MTX GT is a few tenths faster than an ATX all day, its just facts, mags dont test autos usually wen manuals are available b/c you get better performance from sticks. You have to know that man. I know 0 bout NHRA, LeMans or any highly modified racing, Im a stock and bolt on guy. You prob are correct but in the case of the GTs sticks always win
No, sticks do not always win at the track because in drag racing consistancy is king.
Magazines have pro's testing these cars, not average joes. You would have to be one hell of a driver to be able to beat the average joe with a stab-and-steer automatic. You'd have to time every shift right and never miss a gear.
That's why professional drag racers do not use stick shifts.
I've been to the track many times and have seen many people with sticks who lose to auto's.
Well of course ppl lose, but when a pro test a auto GT against a manual GT I know which one will win, which makes the stick faster right? I dont have to get into driver and conditions thats a given. Apples to apples stick will win in 99% of STOCK cars, the cars your referring to are highly modified x00,000's of dollars. They dont apply in this case
I dont care much for pro vs pro magazine tests. I care about real world conditions at the drag strip or the stop light. Normal guys with stick shifts lose more often than not to automatics simply because very few of them are professional drivers
On the street in normal conditions, the auto GT will beat the manual GT. Why? Because to get those magazine times with the stick you need to be a pro. Perfect launch, no miss
But anyone can get magazine times with the auto just by mashing the pedal
"Production" cars sticks are usually faster and the preffered method of shifting and you dont have to be a pro to beat an auto of the same type, you just have to be a decent driver. Its a fact that I thought most ppl knew. What makes them faster I wouldn even have to explain to anyone who has ever driven a stick. Do you think just floorin the gas in an auto is all you need for a perfect launch?
Bottom line: Manuals>>>>>>>Autos in terms of fun. There's no avoiding that. If you disagree, you either don't know how to drive a manual or you have a vagina. Or both.
We weren't talking about fun, we were talking about drag racing. Well I was, at least.
People think that just by buying a stick, they will "pwn" all the "slow autos" at the track. Sorry, but you don't win just because you have a stick. In fact, at the drags, sticks are a disadvantage.
The reality is, autos usually do better at the track than sticks and in the highly modified classes, there are no sticks.
Just FYI, F1 cars and LeMans cars aren't autos. They have sequential manual gearboxes. And you don't really understand the concept of a transmission if you believe that an auto will be faster just because it takes human error out of the equation. Although that is true, there are many more components in an automatic gearbox than there are in a manual. This means more parasitic drag and less power actually gets from the engine to the wheels. Why do you think people install lightened flywheels???
Kramer you need to read my replies and understand WTF we are talking about here. We are talking about STICK SHIFT.
I already said that slap-shift, sequential shift, paddle shift, etc are preferred over STICK SHIFT.
The stick + clutch combo is not a preferred setup in drag racing. No real drag racer is going to be using a stick when much faster shifting methods are available.
As for on-the-street, heads up racing between 2 regular guys, an auto GT will beat a stick GT most of the time.
hahahaha. I get it now. I read it like you were saying that just because an auto eliminates human error it is always quicker on a track unless you're a test driver for Motor Trend. Just wondering, but what do you drive? I'm in a 2005 Super Black Nissan Altima SE-R..........6psd lol.
I love how all these people that do the 0-60 videos of their car say "60!!!", while we can clearly see where the needle is on the speedometer. People must think youtube is a video site for the vision-impaired. Like we're watching the videos in braille or something.

I agree that torque is imporant - but - a F1 with 200HP doing only about 130MPh!!!
I have been able to push my stock GTI (200HP, 6 speed manual) as far as 150MPh.
unssnu100 1 year ago

So if you raced an auto and manual in the the 1/4 mile 100 times, the auto would win more than 50% of the time, but the manual would give you the fastest overall time.
gragra73 3 years ago 5
wouldn't that depend on the driver?
Straightup28 2 years ago
You could say it would depend on the driver. A person that is an excellent manual driver could beat an avg auto driver with all things being equal. The manuals usually have a little more hp/tq because of less parasitic drag. Autos loose about 18 to 20% and manuals 10-15%., but autos are a little easier to race on a drag strip.
gragra73 2 years ago
lol thats for sure
*hit gas pedal* lol
Straightup28 2 years ago
manuals smoke automatics by far in hp. the 85 mustang gt had 175 hp with auto tranny and 210 with the manual, but it all comes down to the driver.
MHSRULES12 2 years ago
its amazing how that works. idk shit about transmissions but hey, facts are facts and the facts say manual is better
Straightup28 2 years ago
Lol wrong..Automatic transmission in mustang is alot faster then anyone could go manual watch stock vs stock videos..and read up facts on transmission...You said you dont know shit about trannies so how do you know any facts?

i meant i don't know much on how they work, partswise. Yet facts are that manuals are better on gas, put more power to the ground, and are more durable. There's a lot more to trannies than shift time idiot
Straightup28 2 years ago
and if you get someone that knows how to REALLY drive a stick shift they will be better than an auto
camarospade 2 years ago
Youre wrong, its not faster (facts too). auto and manual should b close until around 60mph, but after that its game over for the auto.
Alonshalev 2 years ago
@feeblemind
not sure wat ur talking about but for the most part, anything with a manual transmission will be faster than its auto tranny option. it's a none fact.
the issue is the driver. there's a lot of cases where the driver just doesnt have the skill to make the faster runs possible.
JT18260 2 years ago
@feeblemind manual transmissions can shift just as fast, i have my shifts down to about the same time as the auto on the mustangs, back when our cars were stock my friend raced my 6 in his which was an auto, i dropped into gears a lot faster than his auto did, its all up to the driver skill, this is stock for stock though

Yeah because once your rolling stick has much faster pick-up. Auto wastes time downshifting first because of the way the ECU is calibrated.

We hardly had to leave town to do that.

slayersdeath 4 years ago
They do have wank top speeds nobcheese. My facts are exactly right.
A Mustang 4.0 V6 does 120mph. Pretty fucking lame for a 4.0. Ok it gets their fast but most 7 seat cars are faster than that.
All the Mustangs, TransAms, Firebirds etc infact pretty much all muscle cars were never really designed to go fast, they were designed to accelerate quickly over about a quarter of a mile.
Energonorama 4 years ago
wtf are you on about a mustang does more than that you dipshit
slayersdeath 4 years ago
Nope thicky. It doesnt. The 2007 V6 is limited to something like 115mph... for a 4 litre!??! That is a WANK top speed.
Mustangs have limited speeds because there are numerous reports of hoses blowing and the engine being starved of fuel at high speeds, which is dangerous.
Energonorama 4 years ago
The Mustang v6 is limited to 112 mph by Ford. Most American cars are limited to around 105-110 mph. Unreal. US cars have to remove those stupid limiters. Ford Fusion V6 112 mph. Hyundai Sonata V6 147 mph.
pcmr57 4 years ago 2
Here here.
Dude that is shocking! 105-110?! I would go so far as to withdraw my 'wank' claim and label that an 'impotent' top speed.
The question is; Are the speeds so slow because American drivers cant handle them or because American engineering cant cope with the strain?
Energonorama 4 years ago
Something is wrong with you you must be under 17
rjacks23 3 years ago
"Nope thicky. It doesnt. The 2007 V6 is limited to something like 115mph... for a 4 litre!??! That is a WANK top speed."
American cars are electronically speed limited for legal reasons. There are plenty of Vettes, Vipers, and Mustangs in Germany that have the limiters disabled and can hang with any Ferrari while costing 100g's less.
UltraSWG 4 years ago
What are those legal reasons then? You cant speed at 125mph but you can at 115mph?? I think you mean 'safety reasons' as I suggest.
Many European cars are limited to 155mph. I wonder why American cars with their huge engines are often slower than tiny European hairdryer powered superminis. Seems very wasteful.
The BMW M5 touring ("stationwaggon") does over 200mph without its limiter. Also, in Europe a Porsche 911 is cheaper than a Corvette...
Energonorama 4 years ago
It's legal reasons, primarily. MoCo's in this country need to protect themselves from litigation. If you're not an American and don't have experience with our legal system, then you're not really going to understand this.
Regardless, you're missing the point. The limiter is electronic and any tuner can remove it. So American cars aren't really any "slower" than Euro cars.
I think you know this already. Sounds like you're just being a hater.
UltraSWG 4 years ago
Im missing the point?? Its my point!
Your attempt at patronising me has failed.
Energonorama 4 years ago
You still miss the point. It's not the fault of the American Car that it is speed limited. You are bashing the vehicle for something that is to be blamed on our legal system, not the machine.
This is simple to understand. Your chances of surviving an accident at 115mph are about 100 times greater than surviving the same crash at 155mph. You need to understand the forces involved here and the wrongful death suits that can follow.
So stop bashing the cars and drop your silly little rant.
UltraSWG 4 years ago
Please read my existing comments properly you might learn something.
I have never "bashed" your wonderous "American Car" im not interested. Bigger mess at 155mph? no shit Sherlock..
You have taken issue with MY point which was this: WHY BOTHER HAVING SUCH A LARGE ENGINE WHEN THE SPEED WILL BE VERY LIMITED? You might as well have a 2.0ltr 4cylinder and save money/petrol/weight/space etc.. GET IT YET?
Its like bashing your head against a brick wall it really is....
Energonorama 4 years ago
"WHY BOTHER HAVING SUCH A LARGE ENGINE WHEN THE SPEED WILL BE VERY LIMITED?"
Because we Americans don't really give a shit about top speed so much. We car about 0-60 and 0-100 times because there's no place in the US to drive as fast as you want. We drag race here. End of story, now STFU about it.
UltraSWG 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
there is a reason American cars have large engines. if you have the same horse power and half of the pistons you are putting a lot of stress on the motor. This is why you still see american muscle cars still running tough from the 50's and up, while the older european cars are all in junk yards because they cost so much to fix and they are always broke
loganator112 4 years ago
The reason we have bigger engines than you is so when u pull up we put you in your place and smoke your ass.
flamarlinfan01 2 years ago
Just to add... As you well know different Mustangs are limited to different speeds.
There is no blanket speed limiter.
It is NOT a legal requirement for US car companies to limit the speed of their cars. It must be either a social or technical reason (eg. they explode at high speed, or Americans dont want to/cant/dont go that fast).
Energonorama 4 years ago
"It is NOT a legal requirement for US car companies to limit the speed of their cars"
I never said it was, dumbass. Companies wish to protect themselves against litigation. It's a self imposed restriction. If you don't understand this, you're just plain stupid.
UltraSWG 4 years ago
Cars are usually limited because of the tires that American auto makers put on them. usually an S or T rated tire, S are safe up to 112MPH T 118MPH just recently have they started using W, V and H rated rubber on their passenger cars. V up to 149MPH W something like 160 and H 130MPH. Look at GM new V8 buicks impalas and grand prix do over 150 mph flat out.

well unless you live in germany and drive the autobahn, when are you going 100+mph on the streets...

I think in general European drivers drive a lot faster than people in America, and are more disciplined.
Every journey on a motorway (freeway) you will see about 20% of people cruising at about 80-90mph.
Last time i was in Germany i wasnt sure of the speed limit on a particular road, then a Porsche went past me at at least 150mph...

dude why are u acting like a complete dumb ass no joke. look at wat u just wrote.
4.6L V8 putting out 300 is not that impressive compared to the 4.0 putting out 210.
lets take a better look at it. thats thats about 600cc more n ONLY 90hp apart, not impressive. keep in mind the stricter exhaust/etc on the 4.0. open up the exhaust, and add less restrictive intake, plus a less restrictive tune. and ur on about the same HP level.
gotta also factor in the additional weight on GT
JT18260 2 years ago
Hey firstly let me thank you for bringing me back to this thread JT, it's nice to hark back a year or 2.
However I feel I should explain that my whole point is not that the mustang V8 is more powerful than the V6 (although granted the V8 seems more efficient), but that BOTH engines are very large yet make hardly any power relatively speaking.
A Honda Civic Type R makes 200bhp with only 2 litres and 4 cylinders how come a mustang needs 2 more cylinders and 2 more litres just for an extra 10bhp?
Energonorama 2 years ago
having a bigger engine really isnt all about horsepower nowadays, thats the common misunderstanding. the bigger the engine, the more TORQUE it can put out. thats wat its all about nowadays. u can do everything possible to squeeze as much HP out of a little engine like the 4cyl's. and it wont mean anything special. its the powerband that will be stretched. thats why they are higher revving engines.
the 4.0l/4.6 are more about TORQUE. thats wat makes them "fast". its about the engine's potential
JT18260 2 years ago
High torque does not equal high speed. Horsepower will give you speed, torque is a measure of how maintainable that speed is.
For example a bus has a huge amount of torque but not much horsepower relatively speaking. This means it can pull lots of weight but not go very fast.
The Mustang 4.0 V6 produces 210bhp and 240lb/ft
The 370 z 3.7 V6 produces 328bhp and 269lb/ft
The Mustang's engines are simply very inefficient. Even a little 3.0 Clio V6 makes 255bhp and 221lb/ft.
Energonorama 2 years ago
see ur following under the category of those with the "common" misunderstanding.
its NOT about top speed, nor did i say it was, i said Torque is wat makes them "FAST". notice the quotation marks. when ppl say they want sumthing fast, they are not talking about Top speed they are talking about quickness. this is wat torque is. its the pushing force.
ur example of a bus is inaccurate but still sumwat accurate. the reason it cant go very fast is because of how heavy it is, which needs a lot of TQ
JT18260 2 years ago
No you idiot. I started this thread and IT WAS ABOUT TOP SPEED, end of story.
You clearly do not understand what torque is. My example of a bus is a perfect example. You can also use a truck if you like, they both need high torque in order to move such heavy weight.
Energonorama 2 years ago 2
and again u fucking contradict urself. damn ur stupid. now ur talking about trucks? why do they need high torque ratings???? cuz they weigh a lot. and are going to be pulling things. get a 6 ton truck/bus and put 85ft lbs of torque in it. wats going to happen?
that truck/bus aint goin anywhere. it'll accelerate like a fuckin snail. now put 2000ft lbs of torque, they are going to accelerate like a fuckin muscle car. hello muscle car = high HP/Torque monsters. cuz they r pullin their weight w/ TQ
JT18260 2 years ago
Now you're starting to get it...
Energonorama 2 years ago 3
the best way i could explain it is taking 2 cars, 1 has 300hp and 200ft lbs tq, the other, 200hp and 300ft lbs tq. both weigh the exact same amount. which one is "faster" (quickness)? the one with the higher tq rating. which has the HIGHER TOP SPEED, the one with higher HP.
this is why the Chrysler Conquest is a very enjoyable car to drive. it's low hp is easily overlooked because of it's 230Ft lbs of torque. one of the highest ratings available for a stock 4cyl engine.
JT18260 2 years ago
No you're totally wrong. You're confusing gear ratios and top speed with torque and power outputs. Using your example the 300hp car would both accelerate faster and have a higher top speed.
I've never heard of a Chrysler Conquest but it appears to be the American name for the Mitsubishi Starion. It had a TURBOCHARGED 4 cylinder engine which is why it has lots of torque. All turbo/supercharged cars have lots of torque, and anyway, you're talking about a Japanese car....
Energonorama 2 years ago
ok since u called me an idiot. no need for being nice, ok fuckin moron. let me use wat u said.
a bus has lots of torque which means CUZ IT PULLS A LOT OF WEIGHT.
JT18260 2 years ago
Well, you called me a dumbass, besides, you are an idiot, and you do not understand what torque is.
In that scenario the horsepower and gearing of the bus would roughly determine it's top speed AND it's 'quickness'. If a bus weighed 1000lbs it would be quick because it would have a good POWER to weight ratio NOT because of the torque.
Torque is a measure of how well an engine can maintain it's horsepower. Lots of torque DOES NOT necessarily mean something will be quick or fast.
Energonorama 2 years ago
wrong... horsepower is calculated off of torque. its not the other way around. like legend caroll shelby said.. "horsepower sells cars, torque wins races"
608gamer07 2 years ago
WRONG!
Either can be worked out from the other.
Torque = (5252 x HP) / RPM
HP = (RPM x Torque) / 5252
The best TOP SPEED will be achieved at the peak POWER output, NOT the peak torque output.
Energonorama 2 years ago
top speed? this isnt the salt flats man. top speed doesnt mean anything in racing. torque wins races. thats why top fuel dragsters are ALL v8s cuz of torque. you want torque, torque breaks shit and moves it. pro racers talk about torque not horsepower. so throw horsepower away and go for torque!

608gamer07 2 years ago
The problem is you and others are overestimating the importance of torque and underestimating the importance of horsepower.
My Formula 1 example shows how unimportant torque is for them, and seeing as F1 cars are the fastest track cars in the world by miles it's an important fact. If for example you gave an F1 car 200 hp and 800 lb/ft of torque (swapped them around) it would only be able to do about 130 mph and consequently only achieve very slow laptimes.
Energonorama 2 years ago
@Energonorama horsepower is just a mathematical number derived from the torque-RPM ratio. what matters for formula one is how fast they can spin the engines, making torque at a higher RPM which we call horsepower
dlinecg 4 months ago
@dlinecg No, horsepower makes an F1 car fast, torque makes the cars a bit more 'drivable', helps them pull out of turns under load.
If you view all the comments you'll see I explained the power - torque relationship (including formulae) here last year and the year before that, but hey it's nice to be drawn back to the same clip year on year, one of these days someone will understand.
Energonorama 4 months ago
your backwards hp is a measure over time so that would be acceleration your top speed would be more related to torque because of the amount of drag on the car you would need more of a pushing force(TQ) to over come it.

and your care would probably go kaboom if it tried to hang with an american car without it's governer

yea but who wants to drive a piece of shit ricer?

Rockerdude, check your information before you blabber your panties off.
The 2005+ GTs are FASTER with the automatic transmission; this has been proved by magazines, test strip vidoes, etc. You're basing the argument on the time-tested fact that manuals are USUALLY faster than autos....but NOT in this case.

**Proven. :]

hey can you name any of the magazines that you read this in? cuz im getting a gt soon but i havent decided whether to get a stick or manual. thanks.
slashed370 4 years ago
IT aint a mustang if it aint a stick come on get the stick. Car and Driver did a good test
rjacks23 3 years ago
The fastest cars on the track are automatics/slapshift/sequential/etc...
not stick...
UltraSWG 3 years ago
Thats why NASCAR are autos right?
rjacks23 3 years ago
NASCAR?? LOL, that's not the fastest racing, bud.
The fastest racing cars don't use stick shifts. Go find an NHRA stick shift. Or a LeMans stick shift. Or an Indy 500 stick shift. You won't find them because they don't exist.
UltraSWG 3 years ago
I know for a fact that a MTX GT is a few tenths faster than an ATX all day, its just facts, mags dont test autos usually wen manuals are available b/c you get better performance from sticks. You have to know that man. I know 0 bout NHRA, LeMans or any highly modified racing, Im a stock and bolt on guy. You prob are correct but in the case of the GTs sticks always win
rjacks23 3 years ago
No, sticks do not always win at the track because in drag racing consistancy is king.
Magazines have pro's testing these cars, not average joes. You would have to be one hell of a driver to be able to beat the average joe with a stab-and-steer automatic. You'd have to time every shift right and never miss a gear.
That's why professional drag racers do not use stick shifts.
I've been to the track many times and have seen many people with sticks who lose to auto's.
UltraSWG 3 years ago
Well of course ppl lose, but when a pro test a auto GT against a manual GT I know which one will win, which makes the stick faster right? I dont have to get into driver and conditions thats a given. Apples to apples stick will win in 99% of STOCK cars, the cars your referring to are highly modified x00,000's of dollars. They dont apply in this case
rjacks23 3 years ago
I dont care much for pro vs pro magazine tests. I care about real world conditions at the drag strip or the stop light. Normal guys with stick shifts lose more often than not to automatics simply because very few of them are professional drivers
On the street in normal conditions, the auto GT will beat the manual GT. Why? Because to get those magazine times with the stick you need to be a pro. Perfect launch, no miss
But anyone can get magazine times with the auto just by mashing the pedal
UltraSWG 3 years ago
"Production" cars sticks are usually faster and the preffered method of shifting and you dont have to be a pro to beat an auto of the same type, you just have to be a decent driver. Its a fact that I thought most ppl knew. What makes them faster I wouldn even have to explain to anyone who has ever driven a stick. Do you think just floorin the gas in an auto is all you need for a perfect launch?
rjacks23 3 years ago
Bottom line: Manuals>>>>>>>Autos in terms of fun. There's no avoiding that. If you disagree, you either don't know how to drive a manual or you have a vagina. Or both.
kramerbuccs24 3 years ago 3
We weren't talking about fun, we were talking about drag racing. Well I was, at least.
People think that just by buying a stick, they will "pwn" all the "slow autos" at the track. Sorry, but you don't win just because you have a stick. In fact, at the drags, sticks are a disadvantage.
The reality is, autos usually do better at the track than sticks and in the highly modified classes, there are no sticks.
Sorry, but that is the cold hard truth.

Why do you think people install lightened flywheels???
kramerbuccs24 3 years ago 2
Kramer you need to read my replies and understand WTF we are talking about here. We are talking about STICK SHIFT.
I already said that slap-shift, sequential shift, paddle shift, etc are preferred over STICK SHIFT.
The stick + clutch combo is not a preferred setup in drag racing. No real drag racer is going to be using a stick when much faster shifting methods are available.
As for on-the-street, heads up racing between 2 regular guys, an auto GT will beat a stick GT most of the time.
UltraSWG 3 years ago
hahahaha. I get it now. I read it like you were saying that just because an auto eliminates human error it is always quicker on a track unless you're a test driver for Motor Trend. Just wondering, but what do you drive? I'm in a 2005 Super Black Nissan Altima SE-R..........6psd lol.
